smbfs input/output error
Hello All, I had a problem with 2.0.3 on RH6.0 (linux) where a mount of an NT server share on my linux machine would mysteriously die after a period of time (a long time? not being used? don't know why, but hours of unuse). I would get an "input/output error" when I tried to do a df later. To get around the problem, I found I needed to "umount" (not smbumount) the

2.0.6: HUP/charset/profiles/smbmount/logging
This is the list of problems I had with samba-2.0.6 so far. Can anyone tell me if he can reproduce them and if he considers them as problems? 2.0.6 on linux 2.2.13 or 2.0.33 1) sighup/log reopening doesn't always work: connections that are already active keep logging to the old logs; logrotate rotates/zip the logs and samba stops logging completely till restart. 2) Localized chars. problem compiling 2.0.6 --with-smbmount
I have built, installed, and run 2.0.6 successfully without smbmount, but want to do it with this time. I know that it's not part of samba, but am hoping someone can tell me if I'm making a simple mistake. It's possible that it's not even samba related. I'm a novice at this and have not gotten very good at figuring out what's wrong when something doesn't build

does smbmount use keepalive and/or smb.conf?
Greetings, I don't know how common an issue this is as I haven't found much in the list archives that was helpful to me, so I'm hoping for some pointers. FYI, we have samba 2.3.3a-6 running on the 2.4.18-10 kernel. There seems to be an issue with smbfs mounts at times where connectivity may be lost (e.g. Win share becomes unavailable) causing local processes such as lsof or ps,

smbfs problems in 2.0.6
I continue to have the same problems in Samba 2.0.6 with smbfs that I was seeing in 2.0.5: (1) After a mount (mount -t smbfs etc.), the volume is often not yet fully mounted. For instance, if I write a Perl script like: system('mount -t smbfs -o password=pwd //MACHINE/SHARE /mnt/machine_share'); system('find /mnt/machine_share > find.out'); the 'find' may not find

[smbfs] Timing problems with kernel 2.2.x?
[Note: This has been posted to linux-kernel and was ignored. Since smbfs is maintained by the samba team, I am retrying here] Hi! To maintain and install packages from CD-ROM to my Debian/GNU Linux system, I use Debian's apt package. Since my Linux box is stowed away in a closet, I use an smbfs mount to mount the CD-ROM drive from my Windows desktop machine to the Linux box. This used to

winbindd
hi all, as i heard, i need winbind to connect linux-clients on samba. i installed this - without pam (in the hope this would work...) but this constellation seems to be needed, as i still cannot connect, even if winbind logs my domain as accepted. Do i really have to do the pam-configuration on the samba-server-side too?? i just thought, it was enough to authentificate against smbpasswd. is

rsync parameters errors
In my new bash script, I'm doing what I think is a very simple rsync command the way I'm used to doing it. I just do a lot of setup and checking before I get to it. When I run it, it gets very unhappy with me. It's probably something very simple. I need to build the rsync command in a string so that some things can go away - like if my variables DRY_RUN and DELETE are undefined,

Client SAMBA under AIX
Hello, I have SAMBA servers that work under Linux (RedHat) and under Unix ( IBM AIX 4.3.2 ). All the clients at the moment are Linux and work correctly. Now, I would like some AIX machines can access the SAMBA file systems. My problem is that the syntax of mount command used on Linux : 'mount -t smbfs -ouid=....,gid=....,passwd=.... samba_service mount_point' doesn't work

Integration branch pushed out to btrfs-unstable
Hi everyone, I''ve pushed out my current kernel git tree to a new branch called integration-test. This is meant for integration testing only and should not be run by anyone who doesn''t love crashes. I''ve pulled together a lot of important work from a lot of different people. It includes: The new inode number allocator Delayed inode and directory item updates Scrub,

Samba2.0.6 tgz compile questions.
After fighting with trying to rebuiled my src.rpm file. I decided to use a plain old fashion compile from the tar files. which worked ok, no settings changed. at about 11pm last night I finished and noticed a few things that made me a bit uneasy. 1) all the Samba bin files were installed in /usr/local/samba/.. 2) no smb.conf file was created. I used ./configure, make , make install when I

Ensuring that rsync doesn't try to write to an unmounted drive
I have a script that runs nightly as a cronjob to backup my drive to a USB drive https://pastebin.com/yivqrGUC On the command line I use the --timeout option. Is this sufficient to ensure that if the external drive somehow becomes unmounted that rsync will gracefully fail without trying to write to the hard drive instead of the USB drive? rsync -vaWSHpl --timeout=15 --delete-excluded --filter

Samba 2.0.5a vs 2.0.6 and password changing

I've only listed the first two lines as this is where it's getting stuck.
