Printing to samba server doesn't work
Well, not like it should. I can capture a printer with the "net use
lpt1:" command, but I would really like to be able to print to any one
of the three printers in my printcap.
NT gives me the error: "The parameter is incorrect". I attached the
error message screen below, in .png format.
This worked for the last printer I had. All I changed was the printer

Hello,
I am running Windows XP and Windows NT workstations on a lan with a samba 2.2.4 server providing files and printers to these workstations.
I have the following printers shared by samba:

The problem I am having is that Windows XP and Windows NT are using different drivers for the same

Strange problem - print_job_start: job start denied by time check
Hi,
Having a very odd problem with a printer that I've had up and running
for over a year now with no previous issues. There have been no
software or hardware updates recently that should have affected it. The
printer is managed via CUPS and its details are loaded from the CUPS
printcap. At some point late on the afternoon of the 11th, samba
started rejecting print jobs sent to it.

no decorations on 2nd head using nvidia and aiglx
I've successfully set up 3 machines now (2 nvidia and one radeon 7500,
all ubuntu gutsy) with compiz and aiglx and have been very happy with
compiz on all of them. Scaling is wonderful.
I'm trying to do my main workstation now which is a multihead (dual)
configuration with an nvidia 6150:

BriscCAD - Installation and problems
Hi All,
I am running Debain|testing, and have a problem with BricsCAD.
I downloaded the rpm from http://www.bricscad.com,
and used alien to convert to a deb. All seemed ok, but a doubleclick
on the icon gave no result. With everything installed, I could read
the readme. The definitive statement appeared to be:
"This version will not run with WINE releases older than
september 2005"

Hello,
I print from a Win2000 Station to a Debian SID with Samba and cups ( [samba 2.999+3.0.alph] [cupsys 1.1.18-1] ), I can print but on the Win2000 I have the message (unable to connect on the printer ....) and this is a part of my error_log file:
adPPDs: Read "/etc/cups/ppds.dat", 143 PPDs...

NT-to-Linux printing stopped working...
Printing seems like a popular subject here lately. ;)
I have an Epson Stylus Color IIs which I had connected to my Linux box.
It was mapped on my NT box, and everything worked fairly well (except
for the print quality--NT drivers for that printer suck). So, I bought
a new printer--an Epson Stylus Color 740. I hooked it up to Linux, made
the necessary changes to /etc/printcap, and printed some

"Parameter is incorrect"
I set up a new printer on my Linux box, an Epson Stylus Color 740. I
had previously been using an EPson Stylus Color IIs. I got the printer
working nicely in Linux, but I can not print to the printers I set up in
/etc/printcap via samba from NT anymore. I.e., it worked with the IIs,
but not with the 740. I didn't change anything in smb.conf.
NT lets me install the printers via samba, but

samba printer driver uploading
I am running samba and I am trying to get it to upload/download printer
drivers. When I go into the "Printers and Faxes" folder, or just
"Printers" on win2k, it shows my 2 printers, on WinXP I right click on raw1 and
go to properties, it asks to install the driver, if I click yes, it
takes me through the add printer wizard, which lets me select my printer
driver, but apparently

Weird thing.
I upgraded a fileserver I admin to samba 2.2.5 from 2.0.7 almost a week ago
and whlst I was on site today something very strange happened.
I found that I couldn't browse anything on network neighbourhood from any of
the machines and looking at the log files it appears that a windows98
machine managed to elect itself local master.
I have got the usual:
local master = yes

2.0.6 and interfaces
I tried and failed to get a W98 box to connect via ppp and become part of
the network. In the course of debugging this I found what appears to be a
weakness in the "interfaces" handling.
Testing with : nmblookup -d 2 '*' and using different "interfaces" lines.
The inbound ppp connection is 192.168.3.x.
1. interfaces = 200.01.01.233/29 192.168.3.1/24

[newbie]: Samba as a server for Win98 PCs
Hello I do apologize for sending a newbie question but I need to know for
sure if what I am planning is worth spending the time.
I have 12 Win98 PCs with public IPs connected to the Internet. I want:
1) Turn one of the PCs to a linux box with samba.
2) That the linux PC provides login access to the other PCs. (I want to
eliminate the possibility of the users log in a Win98 PC and wreck

Conflict between mouse and tablet
I've been working hard to get my Wacom tablet to work as my primary
pointing device. I've installed the drivers and followed the
instructions at the Linux Wacom project at Sourceforge.
And I've been largely successful. The drivers are working, the
configuration utilities are working. I'm just one step away from success.
Apparently the problem is that my mouse and my USB tablet

Samba Printing to Win98
I am trying to allow printing from my linux box to my win98 box, to which my
epson stylus printer is attached. It's just not happening...something tells me
I'm flirting with a world of pain.
I *can* print a file by going:
smbclient //rory/EPSON
translate
print /etc/group
but I cannot print from applications, nor can i use smbprint. I tried going:
cat /etc/passwd | sh -x smbprint

Upload PDF / Save as tiff
Hi,
I''m trying to automate the conversion of a PDF document received via a
browser upload to a tiff image via ghostscript. I have the PDF data in
a string, and I need the tiff data returned into a string.
The general command I want to emulate is:
type test.pdf | "c:\program files\gs\gs8.56\bin\gswin32c.exe" -q
-dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=tiffg4 -sOutputFile=- > test5.tiff

Running recent cvs from head branch, attempting to list shares on a
machine running win2k. Can anyone tell what is wrong here.
It does have several shares including a printer. I can connect with:

Problems with CUPS and a networked epson printer
I have an Epson Stylus Color 880, connected to our network via an
external ethernet printserver. I used to run lprng on the samba server
(which is a domain controller), and the Windows clients had one minor
problem accessing this printer via Samba (2.2.3a, then): Every time a
client wanted to print, the Epson status monitor on the client would
complain about communication problems with the
