Winproj and permissions
Hello,
I have discovered a slight problem with MS-Project4 on a WinDD server,
where users are not able to update the *.MPP file.
We have all data files stored on a UNIX box, using samba-2.05a, on an
RS6000 running AIX 4.2.1, so all *.MPP files are stored there, with the
proper UNIX user's userid and permissions.
The problem is that userB can not update and save changes in a file that

Looking up NetBIOS names
Is it possible to ask a machine for its NetBIOS name if it's running either
Windows or Samba?
I tried a few various nmblookup and smbclient command lines to no avail. I
would like to be able to query a machine (by IP) and have it respond with
its nb name.
I've noted that if I perform an smbclient -L -I on a machine, it will not
list its shares unless I get the NetBIOS name correct...

2.0.6 and interfaces
I tried and failed to get a W98 box to connect via ppp and become part of
the network. In the course of debugging this I found what appears to be a
weakness in the "interfaces" handling.
Testing with : nmblookup -d 2 '*' and using different "interfaces" lines.
The inbound ppp connection is 192.168.3.x.
1. interfaces = 200.01.01.233/29 192.168.3.1/24

Authentication Problem Citrix NT 3.51 Samba 2.0.2
Hello,
I am currently testing my old samba configuration, 1.9.18p10, under
samba 2.0.2.
Everything appeard o.k. for the first few hours, but then I started
receiving calls from users of our Citrix based multi user NT 3.51
servers, that some of them could not connect to the samba shares.
We are using two Citrix based boxes. Windd from Tektronix and NTRIGUE.
I only had one user on the Windd

Couldn't obtain random bytes
I am trying to generate a ssh_known_hosts2 file, 2.9.9p2,
using:
ssh-keyscan -f list_of_hosts -t rsa > ssh_known_hosts.rsa
and
ssh-keyscan -f list_of_hosts -t dsa > ssh_known_hosts.dsa
but both commands fail almost immidiately with:
Couldn't obtain random bytes (error 604389476)
What could that mean?
Servers that I am aware of that I query is:

2.0.6/Sol. 251/NTW4 - Drive mapping anomaly
Has anyone seen the following anomaly?
When I first connect to the Samba server, I run a logon script that maps
5 shares to drives F,G,H,L,M.
Some time later, when I check "My Computer", I find that the share
mapped to H: has been mapped to all the remaining drive letters as well!
For example, after I mount /users on G: and /programs on H:, I'll notice
at some point later that I

Samba 3 startup
Hello,
I'd like to see if I can get some clarification on what is the preferred
method of starting the Samba daemons (note that we are using Solaris, not
Linux). This is something that I'm not able to find any explanation of in
any of the Samba 3 documentation that I've looked at so far. In Samba 2 I
would have the Samba daemons started up by the following in my /etc/inetd.conf:

Erronous username character substitution ( %u )
Good day,
I'm having a few problems with Samba 3.0.2a, specifically involving the
username character substitute, %u. For some reason, Samba resolves the
%u character wrongly when used in the "path" parameter, where it
resolves it as the guest account. However, the server in question has
"map to guest" set to never and both "guest ok" and "guest only"

Here are my needs:

Capturing the position of a draggable element
I would like to capture the position of a draggable element after it''s
being dragged, but I am running into problem using several options, such
as "change", "revert" and "onEnd". My callback handler would only fire
when the page loads, and not when the element is dragged. How can I make
this happen?

WinnDD and samba printing
Hi,
I'm using WinDD 3.0 on NT3.5.1 (with Service Pack 5) and I'm trying
to use Samba to go to unix (solaris 2.5.1). Now everything works
except the printer stuff.
Somebody (Laurence C. Brevard) already gave a description on how to
do this, but this involved the following step:
connect to your unix printer as administrator
The problem is: I can't connect to anything on Unix via

Neale,
You'll probably get better help on the main samba list as this is not
directly related to the Samba PDC support.

samba PDC with NIS, or other solution?
We have a network with Windows NT/2000, SGI's, Linux, Macintosh, AIX. Our
user account/passwords for all our machines is handled by NIS on an AIX
machine.
Our unix machines autheticate through NIS. Our windows machines
authenticate by loging on to an NT server acting as the PDC, and that PDC
has a service installed on it called "WinDD NIS" (made by Tektronix I
think) which contacts

3.0.24 -- Office read only issue, bizarre EAs and disappearing ACLs
Everyone,
I have finally resolved the new heartburn 3.0.24 on Ubuntu Feisty was
giving me and have stumbled upon some information that might help others
out there.
I was seeing problems with ACL entries getting mangled and disappearing,
Excel making files read only and extended attributes doing bizarre
things. The solution revolved around what appears to be a change in how
ACLs are managed.

INBOX of a shared namespace appears to be always subscribed
In dovecot 1.2.10 I run into the following problem: Our users are
entitled to share their personal mailboxes. This works. But if user A
shares any of its mailboxes with user B, then dovecot always reports
the INBOX of user A as subscribed by user B. No matter whether user B
really subscribed the INBOX of A, or whether user A permitted user B
the access to its INBOX. The problem is caused
