smbd spawns
Stoped and restarted smbd and nmbd. Logged out of NT user account and logged back in. Tried to acces the shares on Linux The message box I get is, \\myhost\root is not accessible The handle is invalid. On Linux, now I see 2 processes of smbd running. Why is smbd spawning? Unix .TXT vs DOS .TXT files
Is there any option that will covert a text file from one system to the other? I have a few files on linux with extension TXT. There are plain text files. On NT, TXT is associated with the "notepad" and opens with the file as one long string. This is the typical CR/LF conversions between Unix and DOS. Can Samba convert the text files based on the client? Subba Rao subb3@attglobal.net

NT client setup
I have installed smbd/nmbd version 2.0.6 on linux. I have read through the FAQ. Is there any document, that explains what needs to be done to setup on a NT workstation? I am trying to access the NT printers from Linux. Any pointers appreciated. Subba Rao subb3@attglobal.net http://pws.prserv.net/truemax/ => Time is relative. Here is a new way to look at time. <=

Is reboot the only answer?
I have created the [homes] shares and can login to any user's home directory. This access is done via an NT box. The only userid on NT is Administrator. If I want to switch to another linux users home directory( or share), I have to reboot the system. I cannot log out the user once s/he is logged on. Is reboot the only answer to access a different user's share on linux? Subba Rao

Can't print to NT printer
I need some help with getting this NT printer setup with Samba server. I think I have modified all the required files and don't know what else is missing. An outside observation should find the missing link. Here is my /etc/printcap: lp:\ :cm=NT printer :\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/lp:\ :af=/var/spool/lpd/acct:\ :mx#0:\ :if=/usr/local/samba/bin/smbprint:\

Accessing multiple Samba shares
I have defined 2 shares in my smb.conf. When I try to access these shares from the NT box, I can access only USER1 home directory. For USER2, I always get the login dialog. I have used smbpasswd to add USER2, but still can't access it. How do I access USER2 account too? One other issue, is the umask for all the users on Linux is set to 027. All I can see for USER1, is some dot files. Nothing

Split String in regex while Keeping Delimiter
I thought replacing the spaces following instances of +++,++,+,- with "\n" and then reading with scan should succeed. Like Ivan Krylov I was fairly sure that you meant the minus sign to be "-" rather than "?", but perhaps your were using MS Word as an editor which is inconsistent with effective use of R. If so, learn to use a proper programming editor, and in any case

Split String in regex while Keeping Delimiter
Dear Emily, Using a look-behind solves the split problem in this case. (Note: Using Regex is in most/many cases the simplest solution.) str = c("leucocyten + gramnegatieve staven +++ grampositieve staven ++", "leucocyten ? grampositieve coccen +") tokens = strsplit(str, "(?<=[-+])\\s++", perl=TRUE) PROBLEM The current expression does NOT work for a different

Hi, I have 2 Dell Poweredge servers which are not connected to the network. We are trying to create a Virtual lab using these 2 servers and a couple of Cisco switches. I have installed Centos 7 with the "Virtualization" option. Now I would like to use Ovirt as the Hypervisor/VM management tool. Since my servers are not connected to any network, how/what should I download from

CRLF/LF Conversion
Hi everybody! I hope that you are not already "pissed off" of all the crlf/lf conversion discussion between dos and unix ;-) Concerning that topic I have a question / suggestion: This is what we have: We are using a Win NT 4.0 Server with Win95 clients. Additionally we have a Sun (Solaris 2.5) running in the same network. To access the Sun in character mode we use a terminal

Samba and IEE1394
This might not be the correct group to post to, but maybe somone could tell me wich groupd it should go to (as I haven't found any good ones). I have Windows XP machines with IEE1394 (FireWire) LAN. Windows has built in support for OHCI compliant cards and can use them as a normal NIC, but with 400Mbit. This sollution is cheap and alot faster than normal a 100Mbit LAN. The problem is now

error when logging into system
Hello everyone, I have a CentOS 5 system. On this system, I used the usermod -n and groupmod -g to change the user id and the group id for a standard, regular user from 500 to 1000. I then ran the following commands (as root), to make sure all the files were changed to match: find / -uid 500 -exec chown 1000 {} \; -- and -- find / -gid 500 -exec chgrp 1000 {} \; Now, whenever I try to login
