Samba PDC + 2K/XP
Hey, I am just wondering how you enforce security (such as permissions) on local workstations while running Samba 2.2.x as a PDC with 2K/XP workstations? As some of us don't have or want 2000 Server to enforce things like policies etc... how do you all do it. E.g. If we want 'Administrator' to have access to all start menu etc... yet standard users to have only programs, no settings

Hi list, I'm trying to compile samba3.0alpha20 on a SOLARIS 7 machine, everything looks quite OK until I end up with this, there seems to be a couple of kerberos related functions missing (?) Compile error with kerberos and samba
First I compiled kerberos 5-1.2.5. Ater that I configured samba: ./configure --with-smbwrapper --with-krb5 --with-automount --with-smbmount. So far all goes well. After that I 'make' in the samba/source dir. An error pops up, displayed below. Does anyone know of either a workaround or solution? I can't install samba now!! :( Mark -- This is the error: Linking bin/smbd

2.0.0-prealpha*: Only 8.3 filenames with NT 3.51?
Hi all, We've been using the 2.0.0 prealpha's with some success, but now I have run into a problem which I can't seem to solve. The client, an NT 3.51 workstation logged in to an NT 3.51 PDC, can't create long file names on a 2.0.0 prealpha Samba server. For example, when renaming a file from 'readme.doc' to 'readme.pqrst', 'readme.pqr' is created. In

Yet another htb rules generator
Dears I wrote a small program that converts a ASCII hierarchical HTB model (nice name, no!) to those nasty bunch of tc statments. It is a 0.0.0-prealpha code so be gentle! ;-) This means a lots of buffer overflows and the like. I am not worried with these by now. My concern is: is this a good idea? any future on that? is it a duplicated effort? Would somebody tell me if it could be of some

Migrating from 1.9.19-prealpha
Hi, We have been using 1.9.19-prealpha very successfully for over a year and have just started migrating to 2.0.4b, the environment is Sun Sparc running Solaris 2.5.1 and NT 3.51 & 4.0(/sp3). On the servers that have been upgraded, the log files are filling up with some ominous messages, but curiously, users are not reporting any errors at the moment. The following are characteristic of

NTDOM FAQ question 2.3
I've compiled and installed Samba version 2.0.0-prealpha (15) on an IRIX 6.2 box without problem. I created an account using 'smbpasswd -a -m' and see it in the private/smbpasswd file. I can see the server 'ackowledging' the NT 4.0 workstation client to some extent in the log files but still see "The machine account for this computer either does not exist or is not

Limits on smbclient -M?
Greetings- We use smbclient -M to send a Message of the Day to clients every once in a while. The clients are NT4 (SP3), and the server is Samba 1.9.19-prealpha. However, the same problem appears with version 2.0.0. The issue is: once the file to be sent exceeds approximately 675 bytes (smbclient reports sending 975 bytes, presumably including some overhead), the message turns up blank on the

Netbench 6.0/Windows 2000 and samba
Has anyone gotten Netbench 6.0 running on Windows 2000 clients to work under samba? I'm running Samba 2.1.0-prealpha on linux with Windows 2000 professional clients. When I try to run it, it initializes successfully but when it starts to execute a test I get the error "Mix lock of handle 6 for length 1 at offset 2147483538 Failed". I'd appreciate any help. Nothing peculiar

no updates seen on PC after unix changed (v2.0 alpha)
Hi, I just installed Version 2.0.0-prealpha on a Solaris 2.5.1 machine. We are exporting one filesystem to the PC's. I can connect from my Win95 PC without a problem and I see all the files on the shared drive. If I bring up Windows explore and double click on a text file I can see the file without a problem. I then close the file and go to the unix box and change the text file. If I then

Samba 2.0.3
Hi, I am unable to log into samba anymore since I upgraded to 2.0.3. I've attached my smb.conf below and I've even gone to trying the CVS releases to see if one of them will help. First of all, I get soemthing like {33}: smbclient -L vilnius -U mharrell Added interface ip=207.97.105.146 bcast=207.97.105.255 nmask=255.255.255.128 Password: session setup failed: ERRSRV

Failed to connect NT workstation to Samba2.0alpha8
Hi Folks, I downloaded Samba2.0alpha8 from Samba site. Compiled it and installed it on the Solaris 2.6 unix box. I set up domain logon for both Windows 98 clients and WinNT. There is no problem logging on from Windows98 and the shares are all working alright. Then, I followed Samba NTDOM FAQ and add the NT workstation name into /etc/passwd and smbpasswd (using smbpasswd -a -m

Problems Getting Kerberos Compiled in with Samba 3.0 Alpha9 o n HPUX 11.00 64 Bit
Hi, I was trying to install Samba 3.0 Alpha 9 onto a server running HPUX 11.00 64 bit. I have the Openldap libraries installed and also Kerberos (the PAM Kerberos and KRB5 Dev Tools available from the HPUX application CDs). I have followed the instructions as outlined in the Samba 3.0 prealpha guide to Kerberos authentication (Steps 1-2, Step 5) and everything seems to be fine at steps 1-2 (the

SAMBA-NTDOM
Hi I'm becoming a bit confused. I have been trying out the Samba PDC code from BRANCH_NTDOM on Solaris 2.5.1 (with great success !). I now want to download the latest version and messages on the samba-ntdom list say to download from the main branch. What exactly do I put in my cvs command ? The NTDOM FAQ says 'cvs -d :pserver:cvs@samba.anu.edu.au:/cvsroot co samba '. When I do
