Samba Server cannot find shares on NT Machine
I have a network containing an NT server, an NT workstation, a number of Windows95/98 machines and a Unix machine running Solaris 2.7 and Samba 2.0.4. The Samba machine shows up on all the windows machines and seems to be working fine from that point of view. However when I use the command ./smbclient -L hostname on the unix machine, the shares on the NT machines do not show up. The shares on the

Additional autoconf test for linuxppc/mklinux
I am attaching a patch to R-0.63's configure.in file which will enable R to detect and use some special math libraries on linuxppc and mklinux. The patch provides tests for these libraries and enable/disable switches for them as well. One library is the libmoto math library which must be used in conjunction with libm (it only replaces some of libm's functions). The other is a RISC

hdf5 config test in R-0.63.2
I just tried to build R-0.63.2 on my mklinux machine and noticed a problem with the configure script. First, configure tests for the library libhdf5, then it tests for the libz library. Since libhdf5 depends on libz, the libhdf5 test fails even when it is present. Later in the configuration script, there is a test for hdf5.h. If this file is found, then support for HDF5 is enabled. However,

R and hdf
Hi, I've been playing with R for only a few days, so I'm not terribly familiar with it yet. Has anyone ever done any work using HDF or NetCDF files with R? Both file formats have libraries which can be linked to a program to read and write data to these formats. Is this sort of thing possible with R? We are planning to use the HDF format to store experimental data collected by some

turnpike 6 - a challenge for i cognoscenti, or a lost cause
The beta version of turnpike 6 is out. I'm using it here, but under win4lin. A big point of the new version is that it uses windows explorer, and I had heard on the grapevine that it was therefore going to be a problem proggie for wine. I've tried running the v6 'connect' program under wine - that works fine (downloads a new newsgroup list, gets me an e-mail - when WILL I be

observations about delays
I've tried two imap clients (mahogany and Mozilla) and they both have strange delays and weird failures. As a reminder, I am using mbox format mailboxes on the server and client side filtering of messages from the inbox. In both cases when the client fetches messages from the inbox and starts redistributing them, CPU utilization on the imap server goes to around 40 percent for Mozilla

Classifying boolean values
Hi to all, I'm new to this forum and new to R. I have to build a tree classifier that has boolean values as response. When I build the tree with: echoknn.tree <- tree(class ~ ., data=echoknn.train) where "class" is a coloumn of my dataset (echoknn.train) of boolean values, the result is a tree where leaf nodes are numbers in the range [0,1]; but this isn't the result that I

Cluster Size
Could someone explain what the cluster size is exactly. I am guessing it is an allocation size (i.e. how much space gets allocated at one time), but that is just my guess. Filesystem performance appears to improve with a larger cluster size set, suggesting that setting a larger cluster size causes few locks on the filesystem during a write. Ralph Armstrong V.P. Print Server
Ok, here's my setup: I've had a samba file server going for about a year now. It's Samba v2.05a on a RH6.0 sys. Currently we have a printer server running on a Winblows NT box. This NT box has the following printers: HP5si, (4) HP4000, and a few HP4s. All of those printers have Jet Direct ports on them. What I want to do is, move all the printers over to the Samba box and KILL the NT

Apparent SNMP remote-root vulnerability.
I just had a remote root break-in on my machine (x86 running Red Hat Linux 5.0 with all the updates except for kernel-2.0.32-3) this morning at 06:03:28 EDT. From what I''ve been able to gather, it appears to have been through snmpd, which I missed when I was weeding out unused daemons. Sorry for the feeble message, but all I know (or at least strongly suspect) is that there''s a

HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP
Hello, I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print servers. I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba. I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers
