How best to handle non-serializable session data?
I have a piece of data that needs to persist across requests that is not
serializable. It''s a Rubyful soup parse tree and it''s very expensive to
instantiate and I need it for a while in my app.
Therefore, by default, it can''t be stored in the session since the
default session storage mechanism is pstore.
One option I have to is change the session storage mechanism

qcow2 --> logical volume
Hello CentOS community members,
A hardware vendor provided us with a .qcow2 file to run on our KVM
hypervisor file that will monitor/control said hardware (firewall). I'd
like to import this .qcow2 to run as a logical volume (named 'server3')
in an existing logical group named 'centos' on our CentOS Linux release
7.1.1503 server.
Right now the .qcow2 file is sitting

Printers disappearing
Hello people.
We have an OLD version of Samba linking a Sun running SunOS 4.1.3 with PCs
running Windows 95. Both Samba and the OS are to be upgraded in the next
couple of months but until that ahppens we have a problem that I would like
some advice on.
The problem is the list of defined printers in Windows disappears every now
and then. It does not happen for all PCs simultaneously, or

Err. That would be a *really* bad idea. See the l0phtcrack
source for details :-).
Seriously, though. The password hashes used on NT are very
poor. They don't use salt and people are now

Profiling a recoll stress-test
Hi all,
I don''t know if you''re familiar with recoll, it''s a very handy xapian based desktop search engine system. I''m trying to index a really big folder containing lots of files (18M), the disk size is ~220Gig. The files are quite small text files (mean size ~ 1K).
The OS is latest leopard.
I think the process is io-bound.

PATCH: Forcible delaying of UFS (soft)updates
Here's a patch against 4.8-RELEASE kernel that allows disk writes on
softupdates-enabled filesystems to be delayed for (theoretically)
arbitrarily long periods of time. The motivation for such updating
policy is surprisingly not purely suicidal - it can allow disks on
laptops to spin down immediately after I/O operations and stay idle for
longer periods of time, thus saving considerable amount
