setup printing without a Windows PC client, how?
I am setting up Samba as a work-around for situation in a Debian/Mac
OS X LAN. I have several Debian boxes and several Macs in a small
LAN. A new addition is my daughter's new Mac laptop which came with
Leopard installed. Older Macs connected to netatalk on a Debian Etch
box, but I can't get Leopard to connect. So I'm trying to get Samba
running and serving to Mac clients.

I found this interesting: amount of evil traffic on the internet
I've just done a little "study" (well, nothing quite that pretentious)
of the traffic hitting my router, that gets DROPped the router's
firewall. there is a surprisingly (to me, at least) enormous amount of
it. over about the last 3 weeks, it has dropped over 65,000 connection
attempts.
I finally got around to figuring out how to have the router's logging
mechanism connect

Macintosh + Samba integration
I have been searching through the docs and on the web to no avail.
I work at a university and we are moving our fileservers to new
hardware.
The problem is, nothing seems to integrate Mac's and Win box's happily.
We have a large user base using samba already, but when mac's pick up
the same share via CAP, CAP creates files to deal with the dual 'stream'
nature of files from a

Samba & Netatalk
I forward this message, because, my problems, are the same:

Hi everyone,
This has already been addressed a couple of times, but none of the
solutions proposed up to now seem to help in my installation (I've
already tried the samba settings suggested by =R= on 16 Jun 99, to no
avail). I have a Linux box running SuSE 6.0 and kernel 2.2.10,

no frills samba server
Hi,
Since the fast track to replacing my NT domain controller didn't work
out too well I'm starting with the basics. Right now I have the
drafting office setup going from chapter two of the Samba 3 By Example
book. My smb.conf is as follows:
#########################3###################
[global]
workgroup = MIDEARTH
security = SHARE
[Plans]
path = /plans

Samba device that integrates Pc and Apple Networks
I remember a while back seeing someone mention a device that would integrate
an apple with a pcnetwork.
basically it was a small box that had a samba server built in. you would
connect your mac to it with the
other side connecting to the hub of a pcnetwork. It would intern allow
Apple shares to be viewed in network
neighborhood, and macs to mount pc shares./ does this ring a bell with
anyone.

Netbios over more then one protocol
Hi,
i'm reading:
samba-3.0.20a/docs/htmldocs/Samba3-HOWTO/NetworkBrowsing.html#id2564441
... The election process is /fought out, so to speak/ over every NetBIOS
network interface. In the case of a Windows 9x/Me machine that has both
TCP/IP and IPX installed and has NetBIOS enabled over both protocols,
the election will be decided over both protocols. As often happens, if

WINS setup / browsing
I just successfully upgraded a server from v 2.2.8 to v3.0.7. When I
execute smbstatus or swat it correctly shows v 3.0.7. When I browse thru
network neighborhood it still shows v 2.2.8. I stopped samba, and removed
/usr/local/samba/var/locks/browse.dat & wins.dat. Then restarted samba. It
still reports v2.2.8 thru network neighborhood. In viewing browse.dat it
shows 2.2.8. Where is this

NT domain vs simple workgroups???
Hi, I've been following some of the posts (never
received a reply to mine but found one similiar). I
have a question that I hope you can clarify.
Original question: I can see the server from my
Windows XP machine using network neighbors, but when I
double click on it I get: Path not found
One reply: If you're using NT domains (not simple
"workgroups")...

Cleaning up Network Neighborhood
I couldn't find anything like this in the archives, although it must be
there. We are running Samba 2.0.7 on RedHat Linux 6.0 using Windows 95
clients.
Our Network Neighborhood is filled with workgroups that no longer
exist. In some cases, someone connected with a laptop that was in a
certain workgroup and it was added to the list of our workgroups. Even
that that person has been gone for

prevent workgroups from appearing in browse list
Hi,
I have a samba 2.2.1a (cvs-06.08.2001) running as PDC for my domain, and it
is doing fine. But in the broadcast domain there are severeal other
workgroups (no domains) with their own Domain Master Browsers. Additionaly
there are always a lot of unconfigured computers not under my control,
which build their own workgroups (e.g. mdkhome, workgroup...).
My problem is now, how do I prevent all

Macintosh related question
Hi!
First of all, i want to say thank you to all the people who helped me out the
other day with the Mac question.
In fact, Netatalk needed to be properly configured.
Now i'm having another Mac problem :( and i've not been able to solve it.
Well, it seems that although Macs are registering and functioning properly in
the domain, they don't appear as such to the rest of the

remove wins entries - samba 3
Hi,
I'm using samba 3.0.7 as file server and WINS server.
We have a primary domain called BIKER which is working great.
Anyhow, for some testing purpose we are using different Workgroups now and
then.
The problem is, those Workgroups stay in the "Network Neighborhood"
although they are offline for quite a while.
When I'm moving a Workstation from a workgroup to the domain, it

Bogus workgroups in network neighborhood?
Hi there,
In our Network Neighborhood I can see items for old workgroups and domains
that no longer exist.
For example, in /var/log/messages I see:

Apr 13 04:02:04 ch1 nmbd[9227]: ^IBCH(7) current master browser = FIRE997

netatalk & Sambas' winbind
Hi,
I've got a SuSE 9.0 running Samba 3.0.1 and Netatalk 1.6.3
Samba is a member server of a win2k domain, I'm using winbind to authnticate
my users.
Well, with the Windows users, everything is ok.
But not with the Mac users
I'd like to setup Netatalk to authenticate my Macs against the win2k domain
as with Windows.
Is this possible?
I've sarched the web all around and

strange behavior maybe dependent on valid users
Hi!
My problem:
I have a network with many workgroups and my samba server 3.0alpha21cvs
is the only member of one of that workgroups.
If I went to the network neighborhood and tried to open the workgroup of
my samba server I got an error message saying that the workgroup
"mygroup" was not available.
So I minimized the settings in the global section of my smb.conf and I
was able to
