Unsolicited oplock breaks
Dear All, we've been having some intermittent problems with students who's home directories are on a Sun E450 running Samba 2.0.6. I'm not totally convinced that the problem is caused by the server, but may be the network. However, I've had a look at the log.smb file and I'm seeing some error messages that I've not come across before: [2001/02/23 18:20:40, 0]

Too many smbd processes running, connections dropping.
I'm running Samba 2.0.4b on a E450 running Solaris 7 which acts as a diskspace server for students, normally everything runs quite smoothly with numbers of connections in the region of about 800/900. Then every now and again students will start seeing their connections being lost and others will not get a connection when they log in, looking at the system shows no obvious problems, except

Word document corruption when connection lost
We've been having some problems where connections are being lost to our 2.0.4b Samba machine, the specifics of which are in a different post. To add to the problems we find there is a problem with particularly Word and also some other programs, with the file in memory getting corrupted when the connection is lost. If a user loads a Word document from there Samba share and then the

Directory listing hangs if links can not be followed.
I've just come across a problem that had me baffled for a bit. We supply students with diskspace via a Solaris machine running Samba (2.0.6). Yesterday, I got a report that a couple of students could not access their diskspace, although at login time the drive was getting mapped. The problem was that if they tried to view the contents of the directory (explorer or dir) the process would

Severe problem with Samba
Dear All, we are experiencing severe problems with Samba 2.2.0 (with quota support) running on a dual processor (400MHz) Sun E450 running Solaris 2.7. This is used as a central file server for student diskspace, accessed by approx 1200 PCs running NT 4. Up until recently we experienced some, what we assume to be, loading issues with connections during the middle of the day being slow.

Samba and ZFS
Hi, I've recently moved our student fileserver from a Solaris 10 server that was using UFS filesytems to a new Sun Cluster. As part of the move I decided to employ ZFS for the filesystem so that I could take advantage of some of ZFS's features. However, it now seems that windows does not report the amount of space that the user is actually using, or the amount of quota left,

Quintum Tenor AX and Echo
Let's try this again. I have a Quintum AX Tenor gateway sending calls to Asterisk from BT analogue lines connected to FXO. The agents hear an echo on their side but incoming callers hear the conversation fine. I can't seem to find the problem. Anyone seen this issue before? <p style="margin: 0; padding: 0; border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Tahoma, Arial, Sans-Serif;

SAMBA bringing NFS server to a halt
Hello, We have a Red Hat 5.3 SAMBA 3.0.33-3.7 Server that shares a few directories to 4 other servers. The other servers are Red Hat 5.3 and one Solaris 10 server. I configured SAMBA to do the following for each share; Force User: User1 Force Group: Group1 Create Mask: 02770 Security Mask: 02770 Directory Mask: 02770 Directory Security Mask: 02770 Inherit Permissions: Yes Inherit ACLS: Yes

r-api-3 with R 3.5.2. on Stretch: is there a workaround?
Now that I am at least mapping the right repository to my Debian version (doh!) I have another question. In the installation page at https://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian/#debian-stretch-stable there is the line: "Please note that R packages from the Debian stretch distribution are not compatible with R 3.5.x, as it provides r-api-3.5, while the stretch packages depend on

lme plot
Hi all, I have a questions regarding mixed effects models: I'm trying to plot e.g. fitted vs residuals for each level of the random effects, and i'm getting the same error. I guess this might be a problem of the graphic capabilities of R. Is there any way to obtain those plots? library(nlme) attach(ergoStool) names(ergoStool) [1] "effort" "Type"

Compiling SAMBA on Solaris 10 to use AD on Windows 2008 server
We've just set up a number of linux servers to access our AD server (Windows server 2008) and now have to set up a Solaris server. I've downloaded, compiled and install Samba (3.4.2), configured kerberos and am now trying to get it to join the AD. I get the following error: samba-3.4.2/source3# net ads join -U username Enter username's password: [2009/10/13 13:10:42, 0]

1.2.4 disk full errors
Hi. A user on a rather old mail system we have filled their disk space, and Dovecot has started to give lots of errors in the logs about "Expunged message reappeared" and "Duplicate file entry". The user can only see a few new messages, not the 33,551 in their inbox. In the TODO file in the current source code[1], Timo notes that (line 147): maildir: out-of-disk-space

Manual OOM killing?
Hey guys and gals, Yesterday I had one of my scientists kill one of my servers when his program ran amok and gobbled up all the memory, or forked too many processes, or I'm just not exactly sure what to be honest. Is there something I can run manually in cron to look for rampant programs and kill them? I know that may be hard to discern but I could also include a list if "known

nested anova diagnostics
Hello all, I have two questions regarding nested anova. I've attached a simple example, where a male is mated with 4 females, and the intensity of the colour of the eyes is measured in two offspring from each female. 1) As I understand it, residuals in a nested anova are the difference between an observed value and the predicted value, which is equal to the sample mean for the cell that

Fitting a model with an offset in bigglm
Dear all, I have a large data set and would like to fit a logistic regression model using the bigglm function. I need to include an offset in the model but when I do this the bigglm function seems to ignore it. For example, running the two models below produces the same model and the offset is ignored bigglm(y~x,offset=z,data=Test, family=binomial(link = "logit"))
