win2000-terminal-server: access-problem to samba server
we have several samba-servers that work fine.
no access-problems, even not from windows NT terminal server.
but on our windows2000-terminalserver only ONE user at a time can connect
to a linux-samba-server.
for the FIRST user connecting to samba, everything is o.k.,
for the the NEXT user, the samba-server is displayed in the
windows-browser-list (or via 'net view'), but as soon as it is

os/2 & AIX & Samba & VisualAge error
While trying to switch a domain from an WinNT 4.0 SP ? to an AIX 4.3 with samba 2.2.8 with OS2/warp 4 clients we receive some unexpected errors.
- we can log on to the new domain , run logon scripts, map network drives , store and retrive files , print to a Remote server using the printers shared by samba.
- we can't run VisualAge Generator (2.X) retriving files from the samba server. (we

Why \pipe\MKSPipe ?
I've got Source Integrity installed on our network and at least one person
is having a problem checking files in.
A tcpdump shows that the client is trying to open \pipe\MKSPipe (MKS is the
Source Integrity Manufacturer). SAMBA (of course) replies with:
SMBError = ERRSRV - ERRaccess (The requester does not have the necessary
access rights within the specified context for the requested

Visualage Gen seems to need extended attrib of a file
We can't run VisualAge Generator (2.X) retriving files from the samba
server (AIX). (we receive smberror: ErrDos 282 )
It seems to require to read the extended attrib to find out the version
of the file (and until now I can't realize what else). Is there any
workaround or patch to get rid of it? Can Samba works fine with this
kind of application?
Thanks in advance,

WARNING: Short packet. Try increasing the snap length (120)
Hallo all,
the tcpdump output tells me WARNING: Short packet. Try increasing the snap
length (120)
but I havn't got a clue how to manage this.
The problem appears, when using the dave client on my mac PB G3 and I copy
something onto the samba server.Other Win98 hosts do not have this problem.
Facit, I can not upload but just download from the server.
Can someone tell me how to read this?

Help with SMB permissions problems?
I compiled a new binary on OS X and now it I'm having a few problems.
Everything is working just fine including SWAT, but now I have
permission errors:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/freeradical/smberror.jpg
I didn't change a thing in my smb.conf, just updated the SMB binaries,
so what might be wrong this time? BTW, I symlinked all the new
binaries to their default locations and

Slow Samba when added new hard drive
Hi,
I've used Samba several years without any problems. Last week I added
a new disk to my system, and Samba started to behave very strange.
It's slow in terms of establish a connection and time to list
directories. I've tried to resolve the problem without success. No
other daemon has problems, both ftp and http works fine as well as
internal communication.
Below I've attached

Mandrake 7.0 + 2.0.6 out of the box.
Hi
I'm experiencing a weird problem with an out of
the box installation of samba 2.0.6 + mandrake 7.0
+ kernel 2.2.14
I just added a new server within an existing network
including :
- 1 server running Slackware 7.0 (2.2.13) + samba 2.0.5b
- dozens of win98 SE workstations
Everything is working fine within the existing network
each station can connect to the samba 2.0.5b server.

Win2k oplocks and you
Hello list!
I've seen the threads in this months archives on oplock issues, so I
hope I am not hitting a sore spot by bringing it up again. The reason I
am beating on this is that I've got a testable, repeatable issue with
Win2K terminal server (SP2) running CorelDRAW 10 (patched to current)
against a Debian Woody box running Samba 2.2.3a-6 for Debian. Since I
can repeatedly test the

Latest Snapshot Warhing
The latest snapshot seems to require a version of bash > 2.0.5.0. I run
2.0.5b and the snapshots work ok there. In particular, they don''t work on
LEAF/Bering which uses ''ash''.

Everything else works, but "nmblookup -B ACLIENT '*'".
It shows the servers IP address, unless "ACLIENT" can be resolved thru hosts/dns.
Can someone explain me why?

"smbmount" and Linux kernel-2.0.37
Hello,
I tried to compile Samba-2.0.5b with smbmount after setting the
configure-option "--with-smbmount". On systems (SuSE 5.0 and
SuSE 5.3) running Linux kernel 2.0.35 and 2.0.37 I didn't have
success:

Samba quota 'feature' fix?
Hey Guys and Gals,
I'm wondering if the quotas.c file is supposed to fix the problem where a
Linux x86 system running with the quota software causes corrupt files to be
written by Windows clients. I compiled it in and it didn't seem to make a
difference for the following problem.
In other words, if I enable quotas on my RH6.2 / 2.2.16-22 kernel box and
then write a file via Samba/Windows

oplcok_break more information (PR#12734)
Hi! After more work on the oplock_break problem, I've found the following
in my tcpdump-smb logging. It seems that when ost5 (pid=26339 in the logs
that follow) requests access to the oplocked file comm.inf from ost6
(pid=5872) the oplock_break failes (this is NOT isolated to any one or two
systems on our network, just using these two as an example, and the server
reports no dropped packets

Win98 command line vs. long filenames
I just cranked up Samba 2.0.6 on NetBSD-sun3 1.4. The clients are
Windows 98 (non-SE). I have had experience with earlier versions of Samba,
so I was able to get 2.0.6 up and running without great difficulty. I
exported a directory and was able to mount it on my Win98 machines fine.
Using Explorer, everything looked like I expected it to: files were
listed with their full names and I was able

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with
JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a
time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the
samba client does not get an error message, but
the job gets lost. :( I would like the print
jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an
active print job or when the printer is off-line.
Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd.
