2.0.4b: logrotate problems with rh60
The 2.04b rpm for rh60 ships with and installs a config file for logrotate

2.0.6: HUP/charset/profiles/smbmount/logging
This is the list of problems I had with samba-2.0.6 so far. Can anyone
tell me if he can reproduce them and if he considers them as problems?

sighup/log reopening doesn't always work: connections that are already
active keep logging to the old logs; logrotate rotates/zip the logs and
samba stops logging completely till restart.

problems running samba on Caldera 2.3?
I have the default installation of samba (2.0.5) that came with Caldera OL
2.3, but it doesn't seem to be starting up properly, nor is SWAT working.
When I run the script 'samba start', I get the message "Starting samba:

Running smbstatus gives me the message "Couldn't open status file

Samba - Unix password sync
Hi,
in the last weeks I've unsuccessfully tried to get Samba (2.0.5a) -
Unix (Suse 6.2) password sync working. Maybe somebody can give me a
hint, what's wrong. Enclosed you'll find additional information.
Thank you for helping,
Johannes

Purely numeric service name
Hi
I have a problem accessing NT boxes which have a service (host) name
which is purely numeric, smbclient insists on treating it as an ip number.
For example:-
/opt/samba/bin/smbclient \\\\06842\\BACKUP xxxxx -U xxxxx
returns :-
Connecting to 0.0.14.34 at port 139
Connection to 06842 failed
I am using HPUX 10.2 and samba version 2.0.4b.
Surely it should be possible to connect to NT

Nasty Samba Locking Problems
We recently committed to replacing our Netware server with a Samba server
running on an old SPARC box (using RedHat 6.0). This seemed like a good
idea at the time, but now I'm wondering...
We have two labs of PCs (each of 16 machines, all running Windows 95) and
we use PC-Rdist to ensure that the hard disk images on the PCs are kept
fairly clean and up-to-date. The master disk images are

SAMBA 2.0.5a oplock_break: client failure in break
We are running Samba 2.0.5a on an AIX 4.2.1 box, and since
we upgraded from 1.9.18, a Windows 95 client reports
intermittent problems (timeouts) when saving small files.
The log.smb file has entries from those events:

nbtstat doesn't show MAC address for samba servers
On Win9x I issue the command:
nbtstat -a <netbios name>
If <netbios name> is a Win9x machine I got the MAC address of that
machine on the last line of the command output. If it's a samba server
the MAC address is not returned:
MAC Address = 00-00-00-00-00-00
Is there anyone who gest the MAC address back from a samba server?

oplock_break: MS kb articles
I found these articles that talk about the oplock_break problem (specifically
they are related to problems with word97):
http://support.microsoft.com/support/ntserver/serviceware/nts40/e9msge2bc.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q163/5/25.asp
Basically they say:
either apply sp3 on the winnt client or disable oplock on nt server
But they don't say anything about win9x,

Help 2.2.5 causing me to run out of filedescriptors
I've been running Samba & Squid on a RH linux server for years. I'm
currently running:
kernel - 2.4.9-31
squid - 2.4STABLE-6
/home - 100 GB Reiserfs partition
I just upgraded samba from 2.0.10 to 2.2.5 this morning. Now, the server is
running out of filedescriptors. I have never had this problem before. What
is 2.2.5 doing differently? How can I resolve this problem? Please help,

2.0.6
Hi there,
could anybody out there make a statement to when the new samba version
is gonig to be released???
I do need it pretty urgently because of a file locking problem on a
glibc 2.1 system...
and I do need to know whether it's going to be out soon or I'll have to
wait some - which would mean having to install another system in the
meantime....

smbd & LPRng
Hello all -
I've got an unusual problem that keeps popping up since samba 2.0, all the
way through 2.0.5a. I'm running LPRng on my Linux box with Samba. Both
startup fine. Fileserving with samba is fine, but whenever I try to print
from any of my clients (Win 9x, NT, doesn't matter) the print job just sits
in the SAMBA spool directory. Looking through the LPD logs LPR never gets

No automatic refresh?
Hi!
I've been struggling with this install of Samba 2.0.4b on Linux/x86 2.0.36.
All of the client machines run Windows NT 4, SP 3.
I'm exporting /tmp as pub, and if I right click in the folder and create
a new folder, it doesn't show up until I go to 'view' and 'refresh'.
If I delete something, it doesn't go away until I refresh.
Why?

[smbfs] Timing problems with kernel 2.2.x?
[Note: This has been posted to linux-kernel and was ignored. Since
smbfs is maintained by the samba team, I am retrying here]
Hi!
To maintain and install packages from CD-ROM to my Debian/GNU Linux
system, I use Debian's apt package. Since my Linux box is stowed away
in a closet, I use an smbfs mount to mount the CD-ROM drive from my
Windows desktop machine to the Linux box.

Samba 2.0.6pre1 released
I've just released a snapshot of 2.0.6 in the alpha directory on
samba.org. This is intended for testing to make sure some of the
recent changes work well on a wider range of sites. I have also built
a RedHat Linux 6.X RPM and put it in the same dircetory.
If you are not running a mission critical site then we would
appreciate feedback on this snapshot.
