NMDB not bound to 127.0.0.1
After updating Samba from 3.0.20 to 3.0.21c NMDB is only bound to my NIC's IP but no longer to 127.0.0.1 though my smb.conf parameters are interfaces = 127.0.0.1, 192.168.x.x/255.255.255.0 bind interfaces only = yes As a result SWAT does not show the status of NMDB any longer. Any idea which parameters are different to 3.0.20 or is this a bug in 3.0.21c?

workgroup name, small nmdb bug in 2.0.6
Im running 2.0.6 on solaris 7 on an ultra sparc and have discovered the following strange behavior: Samba was configured with --prefix=/usr/local/daemon/samba with this directory being a link. /usr/local/daemon/samba -> /localhost/daemon/samba-2.0.6 smbd and nmbd are looking for smb.conf in /usr/local/daemon/samba/lib and this is where the file is. Changes to smb.conf are noticed and acted

nmdb anomaly in SWAT
G'day, We are running Samba 2.04b on a Solaris 2.6 box as well as Samba 2.04b on a Solaris 7 box. In SWAT on the Solaris 7 box the nmbd service is seen to be running. On the Solaris 2.6 box SWAT says the nmbd service is not running. Doing a ps on the Solaris 2.6 box shows nmbd to be running. What is responsible for this anomaly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Dave Lovett

MailSlots compatibility ??
Hello ! I am trying to make "Realpopup" (a winpopup like under windows) able to send messages to a Linux machine. The problem is that "Realpopup" sends messages using the MailSlots protocol only. I have heard about an option on the samba-side to enable MailSlots compatibility. However, I have searched in all SAMBA documentation and haven't found anything about it. Can you

Guide to porting to non-unix like systems?
Hi, I'd like to get a rough idea on how much work it would be to port Samba to a non-unix platform. My plan was to use a slimmed-down samba to read and write files on a particularly unfriendly piece of proprietary hardware we use at work. I'm fine with a minimalistic samba as this port would be for internal, single-developer use and not intended for file serving in general. Here are some

different browselists on multi homed server
Scenario: One Samba server with multiple network adapters each hooked to a different network. Question: How can I configure Samba (nmdb) to show different shares when browsing the Samba server from clients connected to the different networks? Background: The nmdb is always running in a single instance, doesn't matter how often it is started. Regards Richard

Net Send?
Hello everyone. Does anyone know if you can use Samba to send messages over the network using Windows' Messenger service (which uses mailslots which are part of the SMB protocol - hence why I ask) in the same was as using 'NET SEND' on a Windows machine? If the answer is no, does anyone know if there are any Linux programs around to do this? Thanks, -Steve

logon script won't start anymore after update 2.2.3a -> 2.2.8.a
Dear list, last friday I had a frustrating experience during the update of my samba server. I've been running samba since 1998, now there are 50 users with win2k-boxes attached - the samba server acting as PDC. Becauce of a swap of the old server I finally decided to update to 2.2.8a. What I did (in general): - installed the new server with suse 8.2 prof - Installed the suse-rpms for

installing Samba as non-root user at work - please help.
Hi, I've recently started at a new company that doesn't have a system in place to map my Linux home directory within Windows. I have my own Linux box (a recent Redhat install), and my own Windows XP PC. I will get no help from a system admin here, so my only option is to try installing Samba myself on my Linux box. To my surprise, I've found little or no information on installing

WINS name resolution doesn't work
I've set up my Samba PDC to act as a WINS server, because I need remote access to it (through a VPN connection). I put "wins support = Yes" into the smb.conf file. As far as I know, WINS doesn't use a unique port number, so enabling the usual NetBIOS ports (137/udp, 138/udp, 139/tcp) on the firewall should be enough to make WINS work. I did this already. I tried to connect to a

samba not seen from wins server
I have Samba 2.2.8 running on Debian Woody for S390. I am trying to connect via the wins server list that is on a win 2000 wins server, but I don't see my linux server in the list. I can ping and search and find the server by name. I looked in the log.nmdb for messages, but the file is not being created. Following is my smb.conf file # Samba config file created using SWAT # from

upgrading 3.0.4 to 3.0.13
I've searched using google and also look at samba.org and cannot seem to find any instructions on how to upgrade from a 3.x version to current. Everything out there is how to upgrade from a 2.x version. Do I just have to recompile and nothing else? Do I have to stop smbd and nmdb first or just restart them? Reboot?

remote subnet browsing and NT4.0SP3
Hello, I have a samba 1.9.18p4 server running as a domain master browser on a subnet, with some clients distributed on other subnets. If there are only Win 95 clients on a subnet, browse sync works - but not if there are Win NT 4.0 SP3 machines on that subnet. Error from nmdb (at log level 3): sync_with_lmb: Initiating sync with local master browser MAILHEIDELBERG<0x20> at IP
