SMBSH is really neat. After you compile and install it (./configure
--enable-smbwrapper ; make ; make install does it) you simply run it -
it'll give you a login/pw and your usual shell prompt. You then can

Smbmount for Solaris 8?
I see that smbmount is for Linux only. I have a need for a Solaris 8
Sun to see a Win2k shared volume, currently as read-only. So I have a
few questions:
- Is there a read-only capability of smbmount for Solaris 8?
- Is there a Solaris 8 version of smbmount in development? Is
so, when would it be released?
- Can you name any commercial packages that offer the ability to
mount NTFS file

smbmount for Solaris
Sirs,
I hate to clutter your email with this inquiry, but I haven't been able to
get info otherwise. I want to mount shares on an Microsoft XP Pro server
on two Suns, Sparc running Solaris 2.6 and another Sparc running Solaris
8. What do I need for this?? I downloaded the Samba software from
sunfreeware.com but it seemed to just allow the XP to mount the Sun shares.
I hope you can help

(samba ~ shlight): negprot protocols not 0-terminated
hello,
i'm trying to connect to my samba server from an openbsd system
smbclient works perfectly from the client, but if i try to mount the
share using shlight it refuses the connection and logs:
negprot protocols not 0-terminated
i was unable to find any occurances of this problem,
i've read that the field should contain the host's name as a zero terminated string.

FW: smbsh problem - please help
Hi,
currently I am running Solaris 8 and I am trying to install Samba so
that I can run smbsh to access a Windows server. I do the following:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/samba --with-smbwrapper
make
make install
All the documentation I have seen says what I am doing is correct.
Neither the configure nor any of the make commands fail. And once the
installation is complete everything else

FW: samba woes
All,
I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last
few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I

Samba can't keep NT shares mounted
I don't know who this problem belongs to, samba or Linux, but it's a
common one, judging by the responses in my INBOX to a previous post.
Plus, it's a fairly serious one; many applications require smb shares to
be mounted continuously and without interruption. It's been a recurring
problem which seems to have been pushed off to the side as not
important, even though it's a

Samba 2.2.0 bug.
Ill report this as a bug, since I havent had any response to my question about
it on the mailing lists.
I am trying to get at the /smb file system.
My understanding is to do this I MUST go thru the smbsh.
When I try executing smbsh, I see:
[reg@orion bin]$ smbsh

Password:
ERROR: can't get smbw shared lock (Invalid argument)

Complete Web Interface?
Hi all,
I was wondering, has anyone built a complete web interface for SMB servers? What I was thinking of would be something like SMB2WWW, but that would also allow the user to click command buttons to delete, upload, move, rename, etc. Permissions to the shares would be established the same way as they are done now, by asking for a username / password on restricted shares.
Essentially, I

Wanting to run a UNIX command on Windows shared files
Hi everybody,
I posted the following on 'comp.protocols.smb' newsgroup but got no answer.
I'm now trying this way.
On one side, I have a Solaris 7 box running Samba 2.2.0 and on the other, a
W2K
machine sharing to everyone in full access mode the contents of its
C:\Public directory.
Is there a way to run a UNIX script or command on this Windows share? I

Cannot access nt shares after a few minutes
Hi,
I´ running samba 2.0.5a and Linux 2.2.5. After smbmount sucessfully mounted my
four nt-shares it lost the connection after 15 or more minutes. I´ve no idea
why. The log reads
smb_retry: signal failed: error=-3
I can remount all shares every 5 minutes but this doesn´t seem to be a good
solution.
Anyone who has a fix for this?

mounting a windows zip drive
Hello,
I have a Zip drive on my Windows machine, shared to the network. I can get to the drive through smbclient, but would like to mount it to my main Linux box to do backups.
The Zip drive is known as \\mark\d to the network, and I would like to mount it to /mnt/zip
However, smbmount is not able to mount it, nor am I able to mount it via smbclient.
Anyone have this already working?

NT Backup & Samba
My problem is this - I wonder if anyone else has found a solution.
I have an NT server & run NT Backup nightly and want to backup my RedHat
6 /Samba 2.0.5 box with it. I can create, delete and read files from
those Samba shares, but for some reason NT Backup claims that it
does not have enough permissions to backup those files that are sitting
in the Samba Box.
Would you have any clues how

question: DLL or EXE from R procedures
Hi,
I wonder if it is possible to create an DLL or EXE file performing R procedures. Instead of running R, reading data and calling some procedures, I would like to use R functions in the following way: "C:\linearRegression.exe data.txt" which would produce let's say file "output.txt" with the results. Is there some way how to do it?
Thanks a lot. Pavel Vanecek

Problem with smbclient
Hi!
I have a problem with smbclient and the option -M.
I'd like to send Winpop Messages to my Windows Clients.
I have noticed that command only works with short hostnames.
I have for example a win95test1.no.domain host. Name resolution is done
by
bind 8 on the samba box.
if I do
echo "Test PopupMessage" |smbclient -M win95test1
it works. (The winpopup.exe program is of course
