Printing from Linux to Win98
I have a printer - an HP 1120c - connected to my wife's Win98 machine. Occasionally I would like to print to that printer instead of the HP Laserjet 4+ connected to my Linux machine. Could someone explain a couple of things for me? 1. I am running Mandrake 6.0. When I start printtool, it complains that it does not believe Samba is installed. Why and how do I fix? 2. I ignore the message and

Considering upgrade - looking for input
Hi all, I'm considering upgrading my Samba server (originally Mandrake 7.2, but bears little resemblance to it anymore) from 2.0.10 to 2.2.8. I'm wondering if I'll be gaining anything in the upgrade in the way of performance, management, etc. It's a pretty simple enviro handling a few shares - home dirs, public share, etc - and probably won't grow to much more than that.

Print Issue with HP 1120C
A week or so ago I posted an issue about printing from my Linux/Samba 2.0.5a box to a Win98 print queue that ends up at an HP Deskjet 1120C. I have since managed to enable printing, however only in PostScript mode (I am using the RedHat printtool util to test). PostScript looks pretty darn good, however sending an ascii job to the queue results in the printed line "If this is all you see, try

Win2000 DUN via Asterisk (Is it possible)
All, What i'm trying to do is setup a windows DUN connection via my asterisk box and over PSTN or VOIP to my work. What I hoped i'd find was a vitual modem driver for windows 2000 that wouldtalk over sip to my asterisk box and then act like a normal modem so I can dial out from that to our RAS service at work. Any One got any ideas as VPN is not an option for security reasons the DUN

Win98, DUN, and Samba
Does the PlainText password reg-hack for win9x work over PPP connections? I have a laptop that when connected to the lan, can access the samba server without issue, however, when dialed in to the internet, I get an "error 86: The password you specified is not correct..." from the win98 client when trying to access the same shares. The samba box has a world IP, and I can access it

Bluetooth, palm, ppp and shorewall
Hi Folks! I''m new to shorewall (in the process of switching from Bastille), and I have a question as to how to address using Bluetooth enabled Palms with a BT dongle on a linux box protected by shorewall. Basically I followed the directions located at http://www.metacon.ca/bcs/view.php?page=bluetooth to get things working strictly with iptables, specifically: echo

Remote win98 refusing to connect to samba server
The problem: attempting to connect to a samba network drive from a Windows 98 machine gives me the error message: "Not logged on". Background: We have been running samba to serve a number of w95 clients for a couple of years. Some of the clients are remote and we don't bother with running nmbd(8), so all clients have LMHOSTS files. The problem is related to a new W98 machine

Using Dovecot-auth to return error code 450 (or other 4xx) to Postfix when user is on vacation
Hello to all members. I am using Dovecot for 5 years, but this is my first post here. I am aware of the various autoresponder scripts for vacation autoreplies (I am using Virtual Vacation 3.1 by Mischa Peters). I have an issue with auto-replies - it is vulnerable to spamming with forged email address. Forging can be prevented with several Postfix settings, which I did in the past - but was forced

Problems with a Win98 client attached to a Linux samba server via ISDN-PPP
Hi! Just today, I managed to attach my Win98 client at home to my remote network which is controlled by a Linux samba 2.0.5a server. The TCP/IP connection is working just fine, I'm able to access all services like ftp, telnet, ... The Win98 client is connected to the network using the DialUp-Network. The option "log on to remote network" is activated and as far as I can conclude

stripping #s in a text file prior to reading into table or dataframe
I'm importing a lot of text tables of data (from Latent Gold) that includes hashes in some of the column names ("Cluster#1", "Cluster#2", etc.). Is there an easy way to strip the offending hashes out before pushing the text into a table or data frame? I thought I'd use gsub, e.g., but can't figure out how to read in a text file without reading it into a table or

no networking
Hello, I am using the latest prepackaged version of wine (apparently 0.0.20010326) under Debian/unstable and I am completely unable to do anything network related. I tried 'Ping Plotter' as root and TeraTerm Pro as both root and regular user. I also tried Becky, but that's another thing entirely. All these applications did not seem to have access to the network at all. I am using the
