Samba 2.2.3a, print queue status "opening," high server load
I have Samba 2.2.3a installed and running successfully on Solaris 8 in a
test environment. I manually enter printer shares into the smb.conf
file, and then I can upload printer drivers to the Samba server from a
Windows session without problems.
When I try to print to a print queue on this server from a Windows 2000
SP2 machine, the application I am printing from hangs, the CPU usage of

Printing problems with Samba 2.2.3a
Hi,
I've been using Samba 2.0.5 successfully for a long time and am now trying
to configure 2.2.3a under Debian GNU/Linux 3.0. I've succeeded with the
exception of one printer share. What makes this frustrating is that the
share is mostly functional, but I haven't been able to find my problem
described anywhere else.
We have two HP printers, a LaserJet 4000N and a LaserJet 5N,

Printing to Samba 2.0.7 from Windows 2000
Hi,
I've recently installed LPRng 3.6.22, ifhp 3.3.19, and
Samba 2.0.7 on my FreeBSD 4.1 system. Printing works
fine from the FreeBSD machine, and I am able to access
shares via my Win2000 machine. I've configured a
[printers] section in smb.conf, and I am able to see
the LaserJet 2100 when browsing, but on installing it
I am unable to print to it. I get en error connecting

printing = lprng working?
Hi
I updated samba today to 3.0.5. Printing stopped working. The log says:
[2004/08/02 14:28:57, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_printer_fn(108)
Unable to connect to CUPS server localhost - Verbindungsaufbau abgelehnt
I'm using lprng not cups. Is samba ignoring printing = lprng?
I tested lpr it still works as usual.
Is there anything else I should check?
Thanks.
Best,
Hans

SuSE 7.1 timeout problem
Hello,
I just moved from SuSE 7.0 to SuSE 7.1 by reinstalling.
I use HP 2100TN JetDirect printer. I use kernel-2.4.2, LPRng-3.6.26,
ifhp-3.4.4, Samba-2.0.7
Printing from Linux server works just as before. Printing from Windows clients
has problems. I set it up just like before but any print job from Windows takes
its while and then spits out junk:

Samba & LPRng: Printer Status in Windows
I know this question has been answered here a while back, but I have not been able to find the mailing with the posts on it.
-----==========-----
I have a redhat server that I am using as a file/print server for student use. I am using samba to help the users with Windows. The problem I have is that when using printing a user can submit a print job, and it prints fine, but cannot see the

Print speed with an HP Laserjet 4
I've also posted this message to the lprng list, but as I'm currently
not sure where the problem lies, I'm posting it here too in the hope
that someone has a clue.....
I have recently installed a printer accounting system on my systems, and
changed the print model for some of my users. In most cases, this has
been fine, but users who are using HP Laserjet 4 printers are

Printer Pool
Is there a way in samba to create a printer pool like you can do with NT?
I have two HP Network Printers (4000N) which I can setup and print to from
Win95, no problem. But I want to make the most "efficient" use of the
printers, as they are in a lab, sitting right next to each other...
Thanks...

PCL vs. PCL 6
I am currently using samba to try and replace a windows NT box
as the default print server. All is working well except for
one printer driver. All drivers were installed from a win2k
machine onto the samba print$ share.
The problem that I'm having is with a driver for the HP laser
jet 4000N printer. The PCL driver works and loads quickly.
The PCL 6 driver works, but the properties

Has anyone seen this before?
I'm using samba and cups to allow NT/2k machines to print to an HP LaserJet
4000N printer. The printer works fine except for one in house program. In
this one program, all the horizontal lines that should be printed are
missing. Originally I thought this was a driver problem, but today, for no
apparent reason, it started printing the horizontal lines... but only for
the first page of each

another printing question
I have got the printing working with CUPS finally on all of my printer.
Took a while but they are printing with no errors. What they are not doing
is feeding back the print status, and not all of them are consistent. I
have a HP2000C that gives me a failed to open retrying error in the W2k
printers window. I have a minolta d350 that always comes back blank, even
though there are maybe 50 jobs

Slow Samba Printer initialisation, status, and printing
OK, I have been wrestling with this for two weeks now, so somebody please
help !
We have an existing Samba Print Server, running RedHat linux, kernel
2.2.19, that runs fine, but is a P133 with 64 mb ram. So we built a new PC,
the slowest thing we could buy, a duron 1 ghz with 512 mb RAM. Old printer
server is running Samba 2.2.5, new printer server is running samba 2.2.5,
and Slackware 8.1,

Is there a way foe me to get the print job name to be something other than
"remote downlevel job"? All my jobs are now printing flawless except for
this. I would like to be able to get a file name or program at least.

Manual Printer Driver Installations
Hey,
I posted a few days ago about how the printer paper sizes are differ from
the admin account
when they are installed. People at my work are getting pissed at the moment
and all they want to do
is to be able to change the paper sizes themselves and not have it done at
the server
Is there a way to do it?
I fluked it at one stage and had it working like that, I think I deleted the

Working Fine - Suddenly Not
Hello All,
AIX 4.3.3 / Samba 2.0.6
Have had no problems in months accessing shares / using SAMBA. This morning users
called to say that they cannot connect. Stopped and restarted the NMBD and SMBD
services. smbstatus shows no issues. Log files show users attempting to connect but
no errors as to why they get the message "\\<server_name> is not accessible The session

LPRng question
<It seems that the print command is trying to find the printer at
location 'localhost'. Since this is a network printer it is not at
localhost is it?>
Yeah, the error messages made no sense to me either!
Well, like I said earlier: < The IP address of this printer is 10.1.1.192. I
call this
printer nero, and have it listed in my /etc/hosts file>
Here is a copy of part of my
