freebsd and smbmount
Hi, I don't know how many people on this list use samba with freebsd , but I have a question. I have samba set up and can connect to my other win conputers using smbclient but I am told that freebsd does not have smbmount. i need to mount my win hard drives in order to back them up. Is this possible some way with samba under freebsd. Thanks Rick -- Rick Knebel rknebel@uplink.net

Ruby Hacker Interview: Dave Balmain
Guess Dave wasn''t going to blow his own trumpet so someone else has to do it for him. An interesting interview with Dave that filled in the gaps on the About Me page I had asked about... http://on-ruby.blogspot.com/2006/10/ruby-hacker-interview-dave-balmain.html -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Dave and Samba 2.0
Hi All I have just upgraded from to Samba 2.0.0 from 1.9.18p8. Everything seems cool except my macintosh clients (running Dave v2.0 and v2.1) are not now able to access anything from the samba shares. The samba server still appears in chooser and you can select any share and mount it, but there appears to be nothing in it and you cannot copy anything to it. My other netbios machines on the

Mac "DAVE" server + Linux samba 2.2.8a client = missing first char
I'm running stock RH9, which has the samba-2.2.7a-8.9.0 RPM installed on it. My friend has a Mac running OSX and the "DAVE" file sharing software. I can mount his shared folder using the following command: smbmount //tritanium/graphics /mnt/tritanium ...and I can see all the files in that folder when I do "ls /mnt/tritanium." But... The first character of every

Dave clients accessing Samba
Hi, We have about 2 dozen Mac OS9 computers running Dave 2.5.3 to access smb resources. Our print server, running Samba 2.2.7 (w/domain authentication), has no user accounts. PCs access the printers and print just fine, but the Macs using Dave get an authentication error of invalid user/password. They can access resources on the win2003 PDC. Any idea what's going on here specific to the

Hi all, since a samba upgrade i cannot store files from old macintosh clients... Here the details: The samba server runs on a Sun Sparc Server, samba version 2.2.8a. The Mac-Client is unfortunately a MacOS 9 client. To access the samba shares on the server i use the commercial product "Dave" in Version 4.0. Thursby's DAVE and Symlinks
Does anybody here have any experience with Thursby's DAVE and symlinks on a Samba Server? When I connect to my Linux Samba Server via DAVE (running on Mac OS X 10.3.8), I can see all the links that I have made to files that reside in other directories on the Linux Server. However, Mac OS X thinks they are aliases. And when I try to open them, I get back a Mac error saying "The

Dave connecting to samba 17p4 trouble..
Hi, using Dave 2.0b3 under MacOS 8.0 with success. I got one minor problem. I can't consistently logon before I have mounted a samba share. Any solutions to this? Also, I need some advice on how to print to samba printers. Thanks for a great free product! Tore -- Tore H. Larsen Scase AS Engineer C. samba v DAVE
samba server 2.0.6 DAVE 2.1 DAVE 2.0 When the DAVE 2.1 client tries to connect with samba, it gets an error that machine name doesn't match. This DAVE client connects with NT systems fine, and other Windows systems connect with samba fine, so it's just samba and DAVE that are having this failure to communicate. When DAVE 2.0 client tries, it connects fine but when I try to copy a file to

Samba to Dave 2.5
I'm having a problem with folders shared from Samba 2.0.5a dissappearing and reappearing on a Mac running Dave 2.5. I had the same problem with Dave 2.1 and hoped the upgrade to 2.5 would help. The 2 Samba servers are on a separate subnet on which they are the only machines. One Samba server is set as the local master browser and both use an NT server on the same subnet as the Mac as their

Segmentation fault in nmbd when working with Dave 2.5.2
The problem seems to be that whenever Samba becomes LMB for a subnet, Dave sends a series of broadcast netbios-dgm packets that cause nmbd to segfault. This is only a problem with Dave 2.5.2, Dave 2.5.1 works fine. It occurs consistently, with Samba 2.0.7 and 2.2.0 on linux (Redhat on x86), NetBSD (on mips) and OpenBSD (x86). That pretty much rules out operating system or hardware failure. ;)

Dave clients on OS 9 not able to logon to Samba 3
Sorry for the lengthy post, Have a mix of OS 9 Macs, OS X, and Win XP clients which need to connect to a Samba server. Been using Dave 4.0.2 on the OS 9 machines, native smb client on OS X ones. We have one RedHat 7.3 server, with samba-2.2.7, from rpm, which works fine. Now I'm building a RedHat 9 server, with Samba 3.0.13-1, compiled from source. But can't get the Dave clients on

smbfs failure mounting DAVE Macintosh share
Hi, I tried to make my Linux box smbmount a remote share originating from a Macintosh running the commercial package DAVE 2.5. The Linux box is a RedHat 6.0 with a 2.2.14 kernel (with smbfs inserted as a module) and samba-2.0.3; the iMac ran MacOS9. The directory to be shared, \\akemi\archivio, contained two files, aaa and bbb. Here's what happened: [root@sonal ~]# smbmount
