Win98 goes to sleep on Samba
I have been running RedHat 5.2 and Samba 2.0.3 for the past week or so. My
network is made up of NT servers and 95/98 clients. So far Samba has been
running beautifully - I can use my Samba shares just like they are NT shares.
My only problem is from time to time my Win98 machine "goes to sleep" and
asks me for either a password or an IPC$ password. Generally this happens

Occasional failure of authentication
Every once in a while a user cannot connect to one of two samba
servers. Most of the time (but not always), if he waits 15 minutes
to an hour, he can connect successfully. Sometimes he can connect to
one server, but not the other, which have the same configuration.
We are using authentication from the NT server. Samba version 2.0.3

Why is Win98 looking for user "nobody"?
Using Samba v2.0.10 on a RedHat v7.1 box, I see that the Win98 clients on
our network are making sporatic requests for user "nobody" (as shown
below). Anyone know what's going on here?
My network has both Linux and Win98 clients, but only the Win98 clients are
showing this behavior. Both the Linux and Win98 clients access the same
shared drives, but only the Win98 clients use

Samba:connection only works one time
Hi all,
using samba 2.2.5; security=server
connecting as user1 (user logged in on PC) works (12:28:55),
disconnecting and connecting as another user2 (not the user logged in on
PC) works too (12:30:22), but disconnecting and connecting again as
user1 (user logged in on PC) fails (12:34:29) as well as user2
(12:38:19).
It seems it works only once and never again after one time logged in as
user2 ?

error: prs_mem_get: reading data of size 60 would overrun buffer.
Hello everyone,
we try to use a server running linux in an NT-domain and get the error message
given in the subject-line. More details from the logfile and smb.conf are given below.
Can anyone give us a hint what the problem is?
(Of course...) The problem is very urgent for us.
Thanks a lot in advance.

This is the list of problems I had with samba-2.0.6 so far. Can anyone
tell me if he can reproduce them and if he considers them as problems?

Linux/NIS+
Hello,
I'm having a problem configuring samba (2.0.5a) on a Linux
system using NIS+ as the password system. Samba complains that
it cannot find the smbpasswd file, which is not surprising as
I'm not using one. I tried 'smb password file = passwd.org_dir'
that sort of worked, except that it creates a directory called
passwd.org_dir from whatever directory I ran the smbd from.

samba 2.0.6 breaks domain validation (for me)
Hi,
Recently i moved from samba 2.0.5a to Samba 2.0.6 on 4 machines. Samba 2.0.5a ran quite smooth except for oplocking problems, so i decided to upgrade.
I compiled both releases myself and used the same ./configure options both times (but i compiled on different machines: v 2.0.5a was compiled on a HP 9000/715/50, 2.0.6 was compiled on a HP 9000/800/K360)
I used binutils 2.9.1 and gcc 2.8.1 on

NT account locking out
Hi
I have Win2k servers connecting to the samba server by mapping a windows
user to unix user.
We never had any problems with thsi connectivity but for past 2 weeks we
have an erratic problem which causes the windows account to lock thus
making samba unfunctional. When I get the windows account unlocked then
samba starts functioning properly again.
I do not have a scenario to reproduce the

2.2.7a securtiy 'server' auth. problems
Hi all,
sorry if this has been asked before, but as far as I could see there's no similar entry in the archive.
I'm using version 2.2.7a on a HP machine running HP-UX 11.11. The binaries have been created for PA-RISC 2.0 supporting 64Bit mode.
The SAMBA has been configured to use securty = server. Password servers has been 'defined'. For a certain user (Service account used to

Win95-password problem new
Hi all,
one problem with SAMBA 2.0.5 on a Caldera eServer2.3 :
My 15 users with Win95 SR2 in a NT-DOMAIN are connected to SAMBA and
share files and print via SAMBA. All users are in /etc/passwd and in and
/etc/samba.d/smbpassw on ther LINUX-Server.
There are no problems with this and are all happy.
BUT : Sometimes (!!!) SAMBA wants to get a password when users want to
print. My users typed the

I'm having a couple of problems that I can't seem to resolve (even after

Hi,
I?ve setup a Samba 2.0.5a on a SuSe 6.2 based Linux 2.2.10. I?m trying to

access as domain user is impossible. In the logfile I get:

security = server & Win2k PDC
Hi,
I'm having a problem with the smbd process losing its connection to the password
server.
Smbd can successfully authenticate a user upon initial connection. Then after
some time (within a matter of 10-20 minutes) if the user tries to use the mapped
drive, he sometimes gets prompted with an authentication dialog box. Nothing
that is typed into this box will be accepted, and the user
