Info: Samba over SSH
Hi all,
thought I'd pass on some info. With some local help,
we've isolated the problem (unable to mount
Samba partitions over SSH) down to the Win9x SSH client
itself, or rather, an interaction between the SSH clients
and Win9x.
Samba requires _only_ TCP port 139 to mount and
access files, so that's the only port you need to
forward. I should also mention that you need to

Samba3+Win9x userlist, Bug?!
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Dear List,
Few days ago I've posted, that my Win9x boxes are unable to get the list
of domain users and groups from samba-3.0.0 server (for details see bug
596). Unfortunately the same is true for samba-3.0.1pre1.
Please people also having win9x boxes and Samba3 PDC confirm that it is
a bug, or a configuration error.
Thanks for any suggestion.

Login scripts and Win9x clients
Hi all,
I have two systems using Win98 and one using Win95. These three systems do
not automatically execute their login scripts. I can map the network drives
manually and tell them to reconnect at login, but I am wondering why they
don't execute them. I can log in, browse to my netlogon share (if I make it
browseable), and execute the script manually, and it works. Well, it mostly

Win9x via Kix unable to get extended user attributes
Hi all,
In trying to upgrade Samba here, I have built various versions from
3.0.11 to 3.0.14a using various versions of gcc and the Sun compiler
(this is on Solaris SPARC) and had the following problem in all cases.
Running the built samba as a logon server, I find that WinXP clients
work fine but Win9X clients have some difficulties. The problem is that
the Win9X logon script can't

A Group Policy Question in Win9x (yes, another one).
I am wondering if anyone has ever answered the question of group policy operability under Windows 9x. That is, I am _not_ looking for a work-around but the real thing--one config.pol file to service several groups.
I have done my homework, hopefully well, but found nothing. To prove this, I will quickly summarize my findings below. Either I have found:
1. a list of unresolved (mostly

samba 3.4.7 as NT4 domain member and win9x
I'm certain i'm just missing something and haven't hit the right
search terms yet, however, the terms I've been trying all lead to
others with the same problems and no solutions at all.
My network is quite legacy, but has been working:
nt4 PDC and BDC
several samba file servers, various revisions
DOS, Win95, Win98, NT4, 2k, xp clients
I have an ubuntu 9.04 32bit samba 3.3.2

User list problem on Win9x.
I'm a bit confused about user enumeration on Win9x boxes.
I've got a couple of machines running SaMBa. One (M2Dual) is
running 2.0.7 with security = domain and domain server = M2Hub.
The other (M2Hub) is running 2.2.3a with security = user.
I also have three Win9x machines. All have user level security
turned on. Roving profiles work on all machines and all users.
Logon scripts run

Safe Win9x?
I want to install a linux samba server to serve 30 win9x machines. I
want to prevent users from writing on the local drives, they should
have write access only to their home dirs on the samba box. These
users have a nasty habit of deleting crucial system files.
Is it at all possible with win9x and samba? Of course NT workstations
could resolve the problem, but that's not an option with these

seeing/setting file or directory owners from win9x just like from nt/w2k
Hi All,
Is there a way (speak command/wsh script) that allows a win9x
workstation that is logged into a samba domain server (running
onlinux for example) to see from the workstation what owner a
certain file or directory has?
Under win2k the "dir /q" command does this adequately.
And if this is possible, is it then possible for someone to change
the ownership of a file to another

setting time on win9x
I have added the line time server = Yes to my smb.conf file. All my win2k
machines can do a net time \\servername /set an answer yes an the time is
set to what is on samba server. Now the win9x machines will not do it.
gives me an error # 2103, the server you specified can not be found. Is
this a problem with win9x machines or do i need to do something else to get
the time to be set from the

Samba with a Win9x network and RoadRunner
Hi everyone...I'm at a dead stop setting up Samba, so let me jump right into
the problem:
First, the setup: I have a RH7.3 box and a W98 laptop. The RH box also has
a W2k Pro partition. We have them on a 4-port 10base-T hub along with our
RoadRunner cable modem.
Now on to the problem: As most of you are already aware, RR uses DHCP to
assign IP addresses to client machines at boot time.

samba PDC profile issues with winxp and win9x
OK, I've tried to "read the fine material" and have read more than one reference and more than a few
months worth of threads in the archives, but I am still stumped with this issue.
When using logging on with Win9x, there is a profile error #4, and it complains that it was not able to open
or create a file in the \\regmain\[username]\.profile\Cookies folder on login and sign out.

Netlogon from win9x using Kixtart to Samba server
Hi,
I would want Samba shares to be automatically mounted as logicals drives
on win9x machines.
For this i try to use KIXTART (http://www.kixtart.org), a logon script
processor for Windows.
The advantage is that a unique login script may be used for all the
users.
The shares need to be mounted accordingly to the unix groups the user
belongs to.
Fo example, if a user belongs to the IT and TOTO

Samba 3 (PDC+LDAP) problem with user-level access on Win9x
Hi there
I am having a problem when using User-Level Access on Win9x with my Samba
3alpha22 domain.
When editing Sharing properties for a directory, I select "Add" to modify or
view the list of domain users available. I then get the following error:
You cannot view the list of users at this time. Try again later.
As far as I understand, this facility has been functional since Samba

Win9x Cannot Find Server, WinY2k Can
I have a Samba 3.0.0 PDC (and WINS server) that has been running fine
for some time. I also have Samba fileserver running 3.0.0. The PDC is
"littleboy" and the fileserver is "sardine". This configuration has
been stable since the day after 3.0.0 came out, and we were running
3.0.0pre(s) on the PDC before 3.0.0 was released and that was stable as
well.
Now (or as of 10/16)

samba 3.0.2a dos access problem null password
Hi all,
I have a samba 3.0.2a installation on a mandrake 9.2 linux box.
Global config is "share level"
In this samba server I need :
1- One read only share for anonymous users (win9x-win2k-...)
2- One read/write share for one authentified user (accessible from a dos
floppy drive and for win9x - win2k computer
All is fine except that before I reinstall this new samba server, I was
