configure script: locking error
When I try to run the configure script I get the following error: ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe I searched the samba archives and found another instance of the same error, but I don't get the same errors in my config.log file, so I think it is a somewhat different problem. Instead, I get stuff like: configure:8622: checking for fcntl locking

openldap2 + samba3 user changed password on BDC wouldn't sync with PDC
Hi all, I am newbie on this and I couldn't figure out what I have configured wrong. I have setup three Linux Debian Sarge servers with openldap2 + samba3. PDC and master ldap on one machine and BDC slave ldap on the other two. I followed instructions on http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html to set them up. I am using utilities smbldap-passwd.pl from idealx for

Problem with the step() function
Dear all, I'm having some problems with using the step() function inside another function. I think it is an environment problem but I do not know how to overcome it. Any suggestions are appreciated. I've prepared a simple example to illustrate my problem: > library(MASS) > data(Boston) > my.fun <- function(dataset) { + l <- lm(medv ~ .,data=dataset) + final.l <-

Users Cannot Use smbpasswd to Change Samba Passwords
Running Samba 2.0.3 on a Digital Unix 4.0D system. All functions of the new Samba version appear to run properly (previously ran 1.9.15) with exception of users being able to change their own Samba password (root is only able to change password on behalf of users). Following is permissions assigned to smbpasswd: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root system 901120 Mar 31 16:06 smbpasswd Following is

non-root users cannot use smbpasswd...
...we are running a samba-2.0.6 server on a Sun E3000, to provide file and print service (but not logon service) to users on PCs. It works fine except for an enormously annoying problem: ordinary (nonroot) users are not able to change their own samba passwd. When a user invokes smbpasswd he or she gets the following response: euler$ /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd Old SMB password: New SMB

smbpasswd failed for users
I have installed samba. Everything seems to be working fine except the smbpasswd executable file. I can change a user's password as root with no problem but if a user tries to change his own password, it would give this error: "machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the tconX on the IPC$ share. error using pvcm() on unbalanced panel data
Dear all I am trying to fit Variable Coefficients Models on Unbalanced Panel Data. I managed to fit such models on balanced panel data (the example from the "plm" vignette), but I failed to do so on my real, unbalanced panel data. I can reproduce the error on a modified example from the vignette: > require(plm) > data("Hedonic") > Hed <- pvcm(mv ~ crim + zn + indus

Ogg for Java
Hello, I think this new list is a good idea, at least there is a place on which this mail is on-topic. Altough I do not know if anyobody is on this list yet. There is a new Java implementation of the Ogg library. The link is http://netmind.hu/ogg This is a high level implementation, meant to be as easy as possible, while preserving all ogg's features. It lacks real-world tests and can be

Public shares w/ security = user
Configuration: RedHat 5.0 w/ Samba 1.9.18p8. My servers don't do domain logins. I picked a workgroup called OCALA-CIM for it. I have clients connecting from standalone desktops w/o domain logins to anyone and others that connect from desktops that are fully logged into a NT domain, which is called ACCT03 and these desktops seem to be mostly setup to be in a workgroup called EMC. smbpasswd for normal user
Dear all, I have set up file sharing for users' directories on a RH7.2 linux server. I am running Samba 2.2.1a I configured all Linux users who have the right to use Samba to belong to "smbuser" group. However, user can't change their password using smbpasswd command. smbpasswd problems
I don't have a solution, but then apparently neither does anyone else here! I wrote in describing this same problem (on a Solaris box) a while back, and several others since then have noted the same thing, but so far the only real response has been from Jeremy, who claims it works fine where he is. If you or anyone else figure this one out, it would certainly help a lot of folks...

changing password with smbpasswd
I'm using user-level security. Root can change passwords on the server. Normal users, however, either with swat or using smbpasswd directly, get the following error: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the tconX on the IPC$ share. Error was : ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid.). Failed to change password for smith I do have the
