smbmount -- what am I missing?
I wish to mount a Win95 share on my linux machine. I can use smbclient
to get to the shared disk, using this format:
smbclient //win95.machine/share <password>
The win95.machine is listed in my /etc/hosts file.
I've tried every permutation of the smbmount syntax that I've been able
to find in the documentation, dejanews, or this mailing list. Perhaps
I've missed some. I

Asterisk 0.7.1 RH 7.3 RPMS Released
Hello all,
Per my last message to the list, and my promise to the Developers
that I'd create RPMS if they released 0.7.0, I would like to announce the
availability of experimental RPMS for Asterisk release 0.7.1. These are
targeted at RedHat 7.3 systems, running the latest Kernel release
(2.4.20-28.7). As the RPMS mature and people submit comments, changes,
updates and patches, I will

Erratic local hostname resolution with Dnsmasq
Hi,
My local server is running CentOS 7. The machine has two NICs and is
acting as a gateway. For DHCP and DNS, I'm using Dnsmasq. I have a
strange little problem with local hostname resolution. Before going into
more details, here's my configuration.

Asterisk RPMS for RH9 + RH7.3
Hello all,
It's my birthday today, so as my present I would like everyone
possible to download and test my updated set of RPMS for Asterisk 0.7.1.
By popular request, I installed and built a set of RPMS for RedHat 9.0,
and in the process fixed a bunch of issues from the initial build. I have
also updated and will be maintaining a page on the Asterisk Wiki located

Asterisk 0.7.1 RPMS Updated to Rel 4
Neo: What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets?
Morpheus: No, Neo. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready,
you won't have to.
There have been over 500 downloads of the RedHat Asterisk RPMS
since they were released 2 weeks ago, and I have received many comments
to improve them. After some late night hacking this weekend, I have
dropped 0.7.1 release 4 RPMS at

(no subject)
Dear all,
Is there a quick and easy way of converting utf characters to the \uxxxx
form (necessary e.g. for packages)? I mean something working like this:
> utf2uxxxx("õäöü")
[1] "\u00f5\u00e4\u00f6\u00fc"
It is easy to program but perhaps someone already has implemented this. (I
couldn't find anything useful from searches incl RSiteSearch).
Thanks in advance,
Kenn

sqlFetch (RODBC) question
Dear all,
I've used RODBC a lot to read in files created in MS excel and access but
found a strange problem today: a variable in my data file contained both
numbers and text; sqlFetch would set text within a row of numbers to NA; but
if first 5 or 6 rows would be text then all numbers would be read in as NA.

(Fwd) Linux autofs overflow in 2.0.36+
I haven't seen this on the linux-security list so I thought I'd forward it on
for your review.
It was pulled from Bugtraq by one of our sys admins.

Preserving the class of POSIXt objects
Dear all,
I am working with a list of objects each of which contains two POSIXct
objects (say, $Start and $End) and a number of different data in
addition to that. Now an easy way to extract Start times of all object
could be sapply(x, "[", "Start") but this converts them all to
numeric, and so does sapply(x, "[[", "Start"). lapply preserves the
class but

BDC nmblookup and net getlocalsid not working
Hi,
After lots of struggle and rtfm I finally got most things running, except
for 'nmblookup' and 'net getlocalsid' on the BDC. I'm not new to Samba, but
plenty more to learn. Here's the setup in summary:
system pdc is the PDC on subnet 192.168.0.0, running SuSE10.1, LDAP master,
wins server, domain master browser, no iptables;
system bdc is the BDC on subnet 192.168.2.0,

NT Problems with Samba
Okay - all I'm trying to do here is smbclient from my Slackware Linux box
(SNUFFY) to my Windows NT 4.0 SP3 Server (BURT). Burt is a BDC and is
participating in WINS via my internal WINS Server. The Scope ID for the
WINS Server is HARVESTWEB - but I'm not sure how to set that in SAMBA. My
password server (I assume) should be my PDC with is GROVER (146.115.109.8)
Eventually, I want to be

suggestions re trunc.POSIXt
Dear all,
I hope this is a right place to post this; r-help might be appropriate
but it looks like I'm suggesting a change in base package, so I
decided to post here. (+ Apologies if that has been changed recently
-- the version I'm using is R.2.12.2 on Windows.)
I've noticed an unexpected behavior of trunc.POSIXt:
foo <- seq(as.POSIXct( "2009-10-23 22:00:00"),

Notes and warnings in building a package ('ms-dos style file name', 'no visible binding' and using .C("bincount", ..., PACKAGE = "base"))
Dear all,
While buildign a package (R 2.15.2 on windows XP) I had three
warnings/notes -- I would be grateful for any hints on what to do.
1. The first one is probably not really important if I'm not missing
something:
cygwin warning:
MS-DOS style path detected: C:/x/y/z/package_1.0.tar.gz
Preferred POSIX equivalent is: /cygdrive/c/x/y/z/package_1.0.tar.gz

Using ''validates_inclusion_of'' to validate foreign key
I seem to be missing something trying to use ''validates_inclusion_of'' to
validate a foreign key and was hoping some one could piont out my
mistake?
The problem seems to be that Order.find_all.collect is not returning an
array that contains the order_id, if I replace it with a hardcoded array
everything works as expected.
The model:

Curry with `[.function` ?
Dear all,
I sometimes use the following function:
Curry <- function(FUN,...) {
# by Byron Ellis,
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2007-November/047318.html
.orig <- list(...)
function(...) do.call(FUN,c(.orig,list(...)))
}
... and have thought it might be convenient to have a method for [ doing
this. As a simple example,

NetBIOS across subnets
Hi all,
I would like two Samba servers to be able to talk to each other via NetBIOS.
The problem is that they are on two different subnets. I have enabled
broadcast ping on the routers, and the servers can each ping the other subnet
with no trouble. The two relevant IPs are 192.168.1.101 and 192.168.2.3.
There is a T1 between two Cisco routers, and IP routing is all set up.
