Win98 / smbmount problem
I mount my win98 laptop directory on my linux box using: smbmount //sushi/doug -c "mount /home/deck/sushi -u deck -g deck -f 644" This works great so long as I don't ever leave the house. If I take the laptop away and then reconnect it, I can neither use the directory /home/deck/sushi (I get "input/output error") Nor can I unmout it or remount it. (I get "cannot

unable to browse samba server with Win98, but it works with WinXP
Hello, I have samba-3.0.10-1.4E.6 bundled with CentOS 4.3 x86_64 and I can't browse it with Win98. I have a very simple setup, Share type, with access to everyone. If I double-click on the server name from Win98, I have this message: "\\server is not accessible. This device does not exist on the network." If I type the whole path to the share(ex: \\server\transfer), in Win98, it

smbmount/kernel 2.4.2/Samba 2.0.7 - Unable to use large files/directories
Hi there. I'm having a very odd problem with samba. I have a Mandrake 7.2 linux distro, though I've compiled a 2.4.2 kernel for it (with samba support compiled in - not a module), and I've also compiled Samba 2.0.7. When I mount shares from my win98 machines, if I try to list a large directory or open a large file, the terminal freezes. I'm able to log in another, but if I

smbmount/smbumount getting rid of dead connections
I've got a win98 laptop and a linux box. On my linux box, I smbmount a directory from the laptop. Alas, win98 boxes crash a lot, and I move the laptop a lot... to and from work. If the laptop crashes or if I move it with a shared directory mounted on my linux box, that mount gets "Stuck".... it's present in /etc/mtab but when I cd to it and do an ls it says: 243 emily ~>ls

I am running a small network consisting of a few Win98 machines, 2 NT (SP6) machines and a Samba 2.0.6 PDC. I am using domain logons, and everything is working fine. However, when I try to list the shares on a Win98 box fron an NT machine, having logged on with a domain-authenticated account, the Win98 boxes return an "Access Denied" error. If I do the same with a local account on the

Syntax for mounting Samba shares under Linux?
I'm having a hell of a time mounting Samba shares under Linux. Both server and client are running kernel v 2.2.1x on otherwise RedHat v6.0 systems. The machine running the Samba (v2.0.5a) server is working great. Directories and printers are easily accessable from Win98 and OS/2. It's Linux as a SMB *client* that is giving me problems. I can easily mount shares from a command prompt

Unable to mount Samba folders.
Hi all, Apologies if this has posted twice, I've only just found out how to post to a moderated group and my first attempts didn't work. I'm new to this newsgroup and quite new to Linux in general. My Samba ver 3.0.7 (under Mandrake 10.1) used to work happily linking to my Windows ME machine. After some problems with a reboot of my Linux machine I now get the folowing problems:

Still can't write to a Win98 share! PLEASE HELP!
I've posted here with this problem before, and while several people DID try to help, nothing seems to work! Here's the situation (again): I have a Linux box (Mandrake 7.0) running Samba (2.0.6) compiled from source. I can mount/read/write the linux shares just fine, but when trying to write to my Win98 shares (which mount perfectly), I get "permission denied". This only

Can't see shares, and also smbmount works but mount -t cifs doesn't
Hi (this is most likely a newbie question). A couple of problems. I have a linux guest (puppy) running on vmplayer on a friend's machine, which runs WinXP home. I have folder sharing enabled on the host for a few different folders. I am trying to mount the winxp host shared folders onto the linux guest. First problem is that I can't seem to see the shares. smbtree only lists the

Unable to mount SMB drive
I have a Windows Server 2003 system I'm trying to back up to a Linux host. when I access the share with smbclient, I can "see" the files (`ls` returns a list of files, etc) smbclient -U shareuser //server/sharename password But, when I try to actually mount the drive, I get "permission denied" errors trying to access the drive. win98 access to samba
TWIMC, I have a situation in which I can access my samba servers with win95 machines but not win98 PCs. When I double click on the server using the browse list under win98, it prompts me for a password to access //SERVER_NAME/IPC$ but denies me access after entering the password. I get accepted with no problem at this prompt with win95. I compiled with the defaults and shared the
