Print filters when sending jobs to windows printer
Well, I finally managed to setup samba printing... almost. smbprint
seems well and good... if you have a postscript printer, which I don't.
So, I just see stair-stepping, raw postscript on the win98 box printer
I'm sending to. I've configured magicfilter to handle postscript with
gs, but I'm having trouble integrating magicfilter with smbprint. I'm
not much of an expert on

postscript printing on W95 client
Hi there,
If the printer is connected to a W95 box the following information may
help.
1) read the shell script '/usr/local/samba/smbprint', it provides
info on how to setup the configuration files
2) install ghostscript, portable bitmap utils etc
3) install 'Magicfilter', it may need all of '2)'
4) modify the (last) lines in 'smbprint' to something like:

Printing: Access denied, unable to connect
I have been having a printing problem recently on a setup that has worked
for quite some time. Configs below. The symtoms are slightly different
on a W2K and a WinME workstation, but the result is the same; no printed
output. However, when I print from the local Unix server or from any
other Unix server in the network the output is as expected.
The W2K machine reports 'Access denied,

Samba Printing to Win98
I am trying to allow printing from my linux box to my win98 box, to which my
epson stylus printer is attached. It's just not happening...something tells me
I'm flirting with a world of pain.
I *can* print a file by going:
smbclient //rory/EPSON
translate
print /etc/group
but I cannot print from applications, nor can i use smbprint. I tried going:
cat /etc/passwd | sh -x smbprint

/etc/printcap for samba-shared printer...
Morning...
Just spent this evening getting printing setup off my FreeBSD
machine (oh, how I love Solaris at these times *groan*)...got it now so
that I can print directly from Netscape, color and graphics and all.
The printer is an HP 560c.
Now, I want to be able to print from my Windoze95 machine, and
have samba setup for that, as well as file sharing. If I setup my Windoze
machine such

HP Deskjet 1000c
Howdy all -
I have Samba 2.0.3 running like a champ on a dual PPro 200, 128 MB RAM,
running Slackware 3.6, kernel 2.2.5. Running like a champ as far as file
sharing is concerned, that is.
I have an HP Deskjet 1000c hanging off the parallel port. I set up a raw
printer in /etc/printcap, the line looks like this:

trouble adding share with restrictions
I am printing from linux to a printer attached to a win98 computer. I
send a text file directly to the printer such as 'lpr -P BJC
<file.txt>', the printer prints all the text as it should then fails to
eject the last page and then goes off line. When I push the online button,
it ejects the page and then is ready again. I am using a Cannon

Your post on Samba mailing list
Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific, I am printing from linux
to a printer attached to a win98 computer. When I say text I mean when I
send a text file directly to the printer such as 'lpr -P BJC
<file.txt>'. When I say 'hang' what I mean is that the printer prints all
the text as it should then fails to eject the last page and then goes off
line. When I push

Null PrinterName
Hi,
I'm running Samba 2.0.4b on a Debian Linux (v2.2) PC. If I look at the
"log.smb" file there are many messages:
Attempt to locate null printername! Internal error?
We have a number of print queues defined and they work fine.
Here is a portion of the /etc/printcap:

smbprint & .config
I seem to have some issues coming to terms with the new smbprint configuration. Not that it is all that new, but I have worked on a ton of AIX Samba systems that are runing 1.9.x and the smbprint worked great in all aspects. The box's couldn't be upgraded (or so said the company that did application builds related to Samba). The printers were and are hosted from windows95 workstations

Here's a working samba.conf
Since everyone seems to only post problems to this list, I thought that I would try and post a number of solutions at once.
This is my working samba configuration file (minus key indentyfying information). It may not be perfect, but it is as close as I have been able to get it to perfect, and that is after working with samba for a few years. This configuration has my server setup as a PDC (with

Hi All,
Wondering if there is a document that tells how to get wine printing through
a cups printer working? Yes I know the wine docs say it's all magic and if
you're using cups your printing will magically work, but for some reason, it
doesn't, my wine session crashes and burns when I try to print from the
built in notepad (or any other apps I've tried: in particular, Lotus

BUG + FIX in smbprint
Dear Samba Team,
the smbprint script as provided with Suse7.2 for Samba Version 2.2.0
did not work. The problem was that the file to be printed was not
transfered via stdin after the print - command.
I changed the smbprint script to pass the commands via the -c option.
My changes and comments are marked with MR27092001MR in the smbprint
attached.
I did not find this in the lists, so I hope this

Sharing a windows printer problem
Hello. I have been trying to print to a windows printer share with no success.
So far I have found out that the smbprint does not execute. I verified this by looking at the
logfile=/tmp/smb-print.log (from smbprint script) after printing from windows - this logfile
was not created. Also, i verified the path of smbclient and it points to the proper directory.
I am using Debian , and samba
