Samba 2.0.6 and PAM problems on Linux
I have installed Samba 2.0.6 and everything is working wonderfully except
for some PAM authentication problems on my Debian potato samba server.
When a client tries to connect to a share on my server
I get lots of the following before I am ever asked for the password or
the connection times out, this take a few minutes to happen. (My username is

How to increase the printing speed
Hi Brian,
Thank you very much. Now I am able to the printer on Win95 box.
But I don't know why the printing is very slow. Infact the printer waits
for a while before taking the next page. Is there a way to increase the
printing speed. Another important thing is that I cannot use any printer
option in the printer panel on IRIX box. It says "printer type
unkown".Is ther a way

bind failed on port 139 socket_addr=0.0.0.0 (Address already in use)
I can't figure out what is causing the error message of
[1999/10/13 11:39:42, 0] lib/util_sock.c:open_socket_in(671)
bind failed on port 139 socket_addr=0.0.0.0 (Address already in use)

How can I track down what is causing this? Samba has been working great
and now I must have done something but I don't know what. The

Suggestion: Custom filename patterns for non-Sweave vignettes
Hi,
as far as I understand it, the new R devel feature of processing
non-Sweave vignettes will (a) locate any "[.][RrSs](nw|tex)$" or
".Rmd" files, (b) check for a registered vignette engine, (c) process
the file using the registered "weave" function, (d) and possibly post
process the generated weave artifact (e.g. a *.tex file).
I'd like to propose to extend

Can't see all files on W95 client
I am running Samba 1.9.18p8 on Linux(Debian 2.0beta) with kernel 2.0.34
that has smbfs and the win95 bug work around compiled into the kernel.
When I mount a W95(osr2) share with smbmount I can move around the
directory tree with out problems but not all the directories are
showing up in the directory listings. I can cd into the missing
directories if I know the names. Is there a way to fix

smbmount issues on a Win95 drive
I am having some problems when I have a Win95 share mounted using
smbmount. In some directories not all the directory entries are
showing up for an ls. I can traverse the directories if I know what
they are. I am running Debian Linux 2.0(libc6) with kernel 2.0.34 and
samba 1.9.18p8. I have smbfs and the win95 bug workaround compiled
into the kernel. Is there a solution to this?

Printing Problems w/Samba on AIX (2nd Try)
Hello all,
I have been running Samba on various versions of UNIX for quite a
while now without ever encountering any major problems. However, I have
now run into a problem that has me stumped.
I am running Samba 2.0.5a on an RS/6000 running AIX. Up until a
month or so ago we were running on AIX version 4.2.1. At that time we
upgraded to 4.3.2 and Samba continued to function properly.

[PATCH] qemu pcnet emulation fixes
The attached patch to the qemu emulation of the pcnet hardware fixes
several problems. It will now only read and write a transmit or receive
descriptor once. It will correctly handle transmitting frames with more
than two fragments. It will discard oversize frames instead of
corrupting memory. I have tested all the changes I have made and even
seen an improvement in receive performance from

[PATCH] daemon: mkfs: Use -I option to force mkfs.fat to write a filesystem over a whole device (RHBZ#1039995).
From: "Richard W.M. Jones" <rjones@redhat.com>
If you use virt-make-fs to create a partitionless FAT-formatted disk
image then currently you will get an error:
$ virt-make-fs --type=fat . /tmp/test.img
'mkfs' (create filesystem) operation failed.
Instead of 'fat', try 'vfat' (long filenames) or 'msdos' (short filenames).

Possible? Mount vfat, share, have full use of R/A/S/H attributes?
Hi, I've tried a couple of different versions/distros and can't seem to
mount a FAT32 (vfat) partition and then share it with Samba, such that
all use of R/A/S/H attributes (for files and folder) is maintained...
So I'm wondering if this is even possible?
I've most recently been testing with
host: Debian 4.0 (Linux 2.6.18-4-686) which includes Samba 3.0.24
client: WinXP

using feature from applicationmap while ringing in queue
Hello fellow asterisk users,
I'm trying to use feature application defined in application map.
it's defined as follows:
lbxvml => 1,self/caller,Macro,Jump2Voicemail
It's working properly when called party answers the call, but I'd
like to have feature usable while call is still ringing in queue
but this just does not work..
Is this a bug or feature? Is there a way to have

Unable to get full filename

DOS style 8.3 filename mangling issues??!
Okay, I've run through all of the tests in the DIAGNOSE, which my 1.9.18p1 SAMBA
server (and NT4SP3/W95 clients) pass with flying colours.
server box: Linux 2.0.33, gcc 2.7.2.2, libc 5.4.33, shadow, quota on (usr+grp),
and my smb.conf is summarised (by testparm output) below:
Problem is this: with respect to programs not long filename-aware/compliant,

terminating the call, when transferer hangs up the call during attended transfer
Hello guys,
I'm vainly trying to figure out how to setup quite a strange
customers requirement:
they require that when during attended transfer, (A->B->C)
whenever B hangs up the call before it's connected to C,
the call just returns to B, instead of changing to blind transfer.
I tried using atxfer drop call option (enabling null channel in sources),
but to no avail..

Is it possible to use wine with a journaling filesystem?
Hi there,
I installed my mandrake linux 8.1 with reiserfs. I would like to use wine
without my windows partition. Now I see the following text in the wine
man-page:
