Monitoring/controlling the print spool
I crossed few similar questions in the digest and the news group, however I
didn't cross the solution. I set a Linux Slackware as a samba server
(16p11) with HP LJ attached to its parallel port. The server takes care of
the print jobs too well; The server spool simply swallows print jobs. What
should be the set up to let an MS user (95/wfw) monitor ("lpq") and control

Configuration Query
I'm looking at using Linux/Samba in a lab environment. What I'd like is
for the Win95 Machines to connect as the default guest user normally, ie
read-only. But, if I log in as let's say, SambaAdmin, it prompts for a password
and will allow writing to that shared resource. I've tried a couple of
different settings, but regardless of how I log into the Microsoft Client, it

Samba 1.9.17 server is not showing up in PDC browser list.
Hi,
I've just upgraded to Samba 1.9.17, but I can't get my samba server that
resides in a differnet subnet to show up in the PDC's browse list. I've got
samba configured as the local browse master and am registering with the wins
server with:
domain master = no
local master = yes
preferred master = yes

gsub - replace multiple occurences with different strings
Hi,
I search a way to replace multiple occurrences of a string with
different strings
depending on the place where it occurs.
I tried the following;
x <- c("xx y e d xx e t f xx e f xx")
x <- gsub("xx", c("x1", "x2", "x3", "x4"), x)
what I want to get is;
x =

but what I get is;

Upgrading 2.2.0 to 2.2.2
I have a stabily running Samba 2.2.0 operation in place. I've very
happy and for once don't have to fight with a box to do file sharing.
I've worked around some issues I've got (like ownership and ACLs) that
are not directly samba problems, in fact they are probably Administrator
problems.
However, I've reached an impass. I can no longer use 2.2.0 because the

Unable to add a second user
Hello everyone!
I'm a brand new user to Samba.
I've installed the 64-bit version on a Sun E-450,
running Solaris 8.
I had no trouble getting the software installed and
running, but I can't add any additional users. The first
user I added, myself, works fine. I have mounted 2 different
shares. However, I can't add any other users.
My procedure for adding users is to:

Client on dos
I need to use a samba server (linux redhat 6.0 ) from a diskless dos
machine ( has a floppy drive for booting) . So i need a very little
tcp-ip stack for dos and a client for a NT server on dos so that they
will be small enough to be on a 1.44 system floppy.
Is that possible ?

Share shows up but is not accessible.
In Windows explorer the computer (Penguin) and share (Ring) show up, but when I try to access the share, I get the following message:

The share name was not found. Be shure you typed it correctly.
I have Samba set up on another Linux machine (OldPenguin) in the same network, and it works fine. Both computers run Red Hat 7.1 and Samba 2.0.7 (which came

issues with version 2.2.2
Hi --
Does anyone have any strong comments either
positively or negatively about the new version 2.2.2
running on Solaris 2.7 or 2.6?
I have been running version 2.2.1 since August and
have been having some really unusual behavior with
random denial for some users from some machines at
random times. Is there any evidence that 2.2.2
might help with this?

Many smbd processes per user
Hi,
We're encountering severe load problems associated with multiple smbd
processes running per user. As an example below, this user has only five
files open yet many smbd's running. Is there a reason for this
occurring? I've been experimenting with file locking etc to try and get
around it.
Thanks

Sip - no peer or user found on incoming call
Hi list,
I try to connect to a GW which have one domain eg sip.mydomain.com and
have few IPs related to this domain. I register * to this domain with
host=sip.mydomain.com and type=user. So DNS will decide on which IP of
my domain I will register (or redirection on the GW side).
If an incoming call arrive, I would guess that, as type=user, it will
not try to match the IP from INVITE as I

re: GUI's for teaching
Dear All,
This is a question to sound out possibilities.
I am with the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at the
University of Western Australia, representing a few of the more
statistically minded in the faculty. Essentially, there have been
problems in the past with software support, changing over statistical
software, and paying lots of money for it. In R you have an advanced

Does stdlib break the regsubst function?

We are currently using the regsubst function of Puppet to generate some
information out of our hostnames (customer, environment, and so.). The

Samba versus Dreamweaver
Hi!
I hope someone can help me with this one:
We're using Macromedia Dreamweaver 3 to publish local files from a NT4
Server to our internet server running Redhat 7.3 / Samba 2.2.3a. Life could
be so sweet but we're facing a strange problem: Users can't _overwrite_
files edited by other users. Everytime someone tries to overwrite such a
file the message "An error occurred -
