cAos/CentOS Users in Boston/New England area
I'm still looking for any volunteers in the Boston or New England areas that would be willing to help out at LinuxWorld in February. It goes Feb 14th - 17th, but the expo part is only 15th - 17th. If you can't come all three days, that's fine, but I would appreciate if there were a couple people that could come at least a day or two. Also, If you help out you get a 3 day pass to the

MS-DOS, WinXP SP2 with 3.05 and 3.0.6rc2
Hello! I use Windows XP SP2 on my clients. I use the http://unattended.sf.net to automatically install my WinXP machines from a MS-DOS client. This works fine in samba-3.0.5 but since SP2 causes a problem with printers I upgraded to samba-3.0.6rc2. RC2 in turn doesn't work with MS-DOS clients. The symptom is that I can boot from the fileserver but when I try to invoke a program I get

sending print jobs on a pipe
Hi all, I'm using Samba 3 in an environment with very limited disk resources, and thus I'm unable to spool large print jobs. It would be very handy if I could send the print job directly to the USB printer, and not via a spool file. Looking through the man pages, I can't find any option for doing this. Ideally, I would want something like "print job on pipe = yes" and the

extending files slow on FAT filesystems
Hi, I'm running Samba 3.0.23a on Linux. One of my share is a USB disk with a FAT32 filesystem. When copying large files from my Windows XP machine to this share, smbd seem to "reserve" (by using ftruncate()) the space needed on the USB disk before actually doing any copying. This ftruncate() operation takes quite a while when the file is large. It may even cause the client to time

Failed Logins (ntang@rga.com)
Nicholas: Regarding your problem: "The SGI server is only serving files, no home directories, no printers (we have separate NT servers for each of those functions), and it is using "SERVER" level security. Encryption is on. Guest logins are disabled ... I'm confused greatly by this - one day, a user's login will work, another day, it'll suddenly stop working. "

rsync 2.4.6-3 cygwin : transfer interrupted (code 22) at util.c(211)
Having same problem as in previous threads with large number of files, 500.000+ and 20GB of data. Im trying now to sync from w2k to a linux to see if I can get that working before going to w2k -> w2k. The client is running the rsync-cygwin-2.4.6-3 and the unix machine is running a trustix (a distrib) supplied package of rsync-2.4.6. It works from another client with the same cygwin version

Sniffer techniques
As the group knows, I'm having compatibility issues with a critical database application. It's been wisely suggested that I monitor the line to see what's up. Problem is: I've never done this before & suspect others like me are not familiar with these techniques. I did find an old LinuxWorld article http://tinyurl.com/yrjurx however I help thinking there is more on the top.

Troubleshooting ZFS performance with SIL3124 cards
Hi! I have a problem with ZFS and most likely the SATA PCI-X controllers. I run opensolaris 2008.11 snv_98 and my hardware is Sun Netra x4200 M2 with 3 SIL3124 PCI-X with 4 eSATA ports each connected to 3 1U diskchassis which each hold 4 SATA disks manufactured by Seagate model ES.2 (500 and 750) for a total of 12 disks. Every disk has its own eSATA cable connected to the ports on the PCI-X

Invalid parameters for bitrate
Hi! I'm very impressed with the progress Ogg Vorbis has made, ever since getting that T-shirt at LinuxWorld Expo :-) Using oggenc, I've run into a problem, though: "Mode initialisation failed: invalid parameters for bitrate" This happens when 2 conditions are true: 1) the input file has a sampling rate less than 44100, and 2) the -M parameter is used to specify a maximum

How would I convert this program to output exactly the same thing but only for all the (noop) operations. We keep puppet in noop mode to audit its actions before they are applied. Thus it is necessary to ensure we understand exactly what all the nodes noop operations would be if we listed the noop restriction for a normal apply. This program will report in a reasonable format for those non-noop
