Print queue problem under solaris 2.6
Hi,
I saw your message on the SAMBA web site and thought you might have heard
of this problem and a possible solution.
I'm running Samba 1.9.17p5 on a SUN Ultra-1 and it appears that the
lprm command is being completely ignored by the system, which seems
to be inserting an lpstat -o command instead.
I did a level 5 debug and have been looking over the C code pretty closely
but can't see

Favorite print command for SAMBA on Sol 2.5.1
I am having problems with the HP printers that are being handled by a
Solaris 2.5.1 machine. The boring details are towards the end.
The SAMBA print command I currently use is:
print command = echo %u - %s to %p at %T >> /tmp/smb-print.log ; \
lpr -P %p %s ; \
rm %s
;
These are EXACTLY the way they are in the smb.conf file. The server will
print 99.9% of

windows printer queue display fails
I am driving a Suse 8.2 linux with cups 1.1.18 and samba 2.2.7a.
The problem:
The host serves several printers via cups. If some jobs are in one of
the queues "lpq -Pprinter" or "lpstat -o printer" shows up the complete
listing. Fine.
Connected to the same print queue from a Windows (XP/NT/98/2k) box I
cannot see the complete listing. Sometimes I see some of the jobs, most

Printer queue problem (LPRng 3.4.2, Samba 1.9.18p4, Solaris 2.5.1/2.6)
I've been having a problem with Win95 clients watching a printer queue on
the Samba server (called labserv2). labserv2 is a Solaris 2.5.1 machine
running samba 1.9.18p4. The printing system is LPRng 3.4.2.
A user can watch the printer queue from a Win95 client machine. However,
when the printer queue gets backed up (usually about 12 jobs), the queue
window locks. The corresponding smbd

works fine, but there is one problem with jobs: we're not able to cancel them.
The lpq command definition it's shown below:
lpq command = /usr/bin/lpstat %p
But if any one submits a job to any printer and, after that, tryies

windows printer queue failure
I am driving Suse 8.2, samba 2.2.7a, cups 1.1.18
As I mentioned recently I cannot see the cups printer queues from a
windows client even if lpq -Pprinter on the cups server gives the
correct status.
I tested a litte more and got the following results:
1.) If I configure samba to
printing = CUPS
printcap name = CUPS
I can see all queue entries in the windows status panel, too --

Your message Re: Samba and printer comments (July 5 1999)
Yes unfortunately I do not have much luck recieving help from the SAMBA
mailing list.
After much playing I found something weird that was seemingly causing
incorrect comments. Most printers would recieve the comment - "no
entries" which originally I assumed to be the default comment given by
Win95 when it could not get a proper comment. However I later found
that this is not the case.

need help setting up a printer
I'm trying to setup a print share with samba-2.2.4 that 9x and 2k clients
should be able to print to.
Below is my current setup listing only printer related options.
My first concern right now is that I have cups running with the pdfdistiller
script to format print jobs into pdf documents.
I'm not using a real printer for this.
I need samba to display the cups printer called PDF_Printer so

No network management of print jobs possible
Hello!
I?ve running samba 2.05a on suse linux 6.3 as a server with Win95 and
Win98 clients and everything works fine.
The only problem is, that users can?t manage (kill, resume,...) their
print jobs once the print jobs are sent to the samba printer. When I
read docs and books, it sounds that it?s possible to manage print jobs
over network. As printing system I have "lpq command = plp",

Samba printing on Solaris 8
Hi:
I am new to the Samba world and I am having problems with printing. I
have Samba installed on a Solaris 8 server. I can see the Samba shares
and the printer (lasersys) in Windows Explorer. I have installed the
printer on my workstation (NT 4.0) using the Windows 'Add Printer'
wizard. However, when I send a print job to the printer
(Wordpad:File > Print) the job never gets to the

oplock_break with samba 2.0
Sorry for all my emails. I don't know where to post this problem, so I also post it to the ntdom mailing list...
Since I upgrade to 2.0beta5, I got a lot of messages like this in log.smb:

CentOS5:Printer Won't Work
I have a HP OfficeJet K80xi "all-in-one" USB printer. When I send a
file to the printer from a virtual console using the command : lp
"anyfilename", the response is "request ID is HPOJK80-7 (1 file(s)".
There is no printer action, no sound, nothing. The printers name is
HPOJK80; the -7 is the job number.
The command lpstat shows there are a total of 7 jobs in the

Printer prints, but reports opening
We have a samba 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian running, and something odd in
printing.
We use CUPs as linux print server. When we print from a w2k station,
prints come out the printer, but the printer window reports a cycle of
messages:
- initializing printer
- opening printer
- failed to open, retrying
what can be the cause?

Cups printers troubles
Ok... here we go,
I have a server running RH 7.3, samba 2.2.3a, and CUPS 1.1.14. All the
printers we have are networked printers sitting off of Linksys
printservers. On this server I am sharing all off our printers out via
Samba. See my smb.conf file below. This server works perfectly. All
printers are shared out successfully.

solaris/2.2.2 authentication against NT domain (ie. root canal)
Greetings,
This is my first post (hopefully not too newbie for this group). Thank you
in advance to anyone who feels compelled to help. I'm trying to get a copy
of Samba 2.2.2 running on Solaris 9 to authenticate against an NT domain. I
have successfully done this on a Redhat 7.2 box which is running Samba 2.2.4
on the same domain. As best as I can tell, the configurations of these

Samba 2.0.x unusable for this environment
I just attempted to upgrade from Samba 1.9.18p10 to Samba 2.0.4b, and I
have had to revert to 1.9.18p10 in less than a day. I attempted to
upgrade to 2.0.1 back in January, and had to back off as well. I was
hoping the problems I saw then would be resolved in 2.0.4b. I sent a
message to this list back in January or February as well, but saw no
responses.
My environment is about 210 Win95 PCs
