Issues with Joining an NT4 Domain
Hello I'm having some dificulties joining my Samba 3.0alpha (and 2.2.7a) machine to my NT4 domain. Let me tell you what I'm attempting to accomplish. I want to setup the Samba system to authenticate to my NT domain so that I can use NTLM Proxy authentication with SQUID. Through reading the docs, I'm under the impression that in order to allow thre SQUID/Samba setup to auth on

Using rpcclient or samedit to randomise trust account passwords
when an nt 4.0 workstation or backup domain controller is joined to a domain, the trust account password is set to a well-known initial value. if you are concerned about internal network security, this is not really an acceptable risk: any captured network traffic can be decoded simply from knowing the name of the workstation, which is contained in the network traffic itself. the initial value

Good day all, Another odd little problem; this has persisted through a lot of recent versions, but posting earlier reminded me I need to mention this as well . Built a new version. Cleared out all ".tdb" etc. files beneath "/var/samba/" (which is where "locks", "lock", "log", . all sit on

domain_client_validate: unable to validate password for user MACHINE$ in domain DOMAIN to Domain controller \\DC. Error was NT_STATUS_NOLOGON_WORKSTATION_TRUST_ACCOUNT
Hi Samba users - I recently upgraded my domain at home from being controlled by two somewhat messed up Windows DCs (one 2000 and the other 2003, messed up by my own inexpert management..) to a nice clean new single 2003 DC (SBS, if it matters). I rejoined all workstations, including a Redhat Fedora FC3 based machine, to the new domain. (Actually, I migrated all of the Windows workstations

Problems joining existing domain W2K SP4 and Samba 2.2.8a
Hi all, I seem to be having some weird problems while trying to add a workstation to an existing domain. Samba 2.2.8a is running on FreeBSD 4.8-RELEASE-p17 and all the clients have Windows 2000 Professional with SP4 installed. This particular workstaion was part of the domain until its hard drive went under. The drive had to be replaced with a new one, the OS was installed and now when I try to

security=domain problems
Hi all, We are having some problems getting a solaris 9(sparc) file server running samba 2.2.2 to authenticate aginst a windows NT 4 PDC. Let me say first that this was all working at one time, then we had some data corrumption on our NFS mounted /usr/local, and had to restore from tape. Due to some issues with solaris ufsdump and ufsrestore, stuff was not quite put back properly. We do

Samba 3.6.9 on Centos 6.4 and very slow first access to fileserver
Hello good people, I am fighting with following issue: our users are complaining about very slow/delayed displaying of main folders during accessing server using \\dns.name.of.server (using \\IP or \\netbios_name is it with same slowness). But once they are authenticated, displaying contents of (sub-)folders are getting normal. Once the user hit "enter" key on

Winbind problem when heavy loaded ...
Hello, Sambas, Recently, I met a problem with my Samba 2.2.3a server. It is configured as a Domain Member, sometimes I couldn't get user list from PDC ( a Win2k server), but it come up again soon , say 5 seconds. I had thought it is PDC's problem, but it seems PDC is fine. Are there any other reasons will cause that? Some log messages attached. [2002/07/08 08:42:44, 0]

winbind wbinfo -t secret is bad
Quick run down of my setup: NT 4.0 PDC, Samba RedHat 8.0 with samba 2.2.5-10 on it.(Also used RedHat 7.2 with 2.2.6 final as well) with the exact same results. When I run wbinfo -t, I get Secret is bad 0xc000018b. I have been trying to figure this out for a few days now and can't get it working correctly. If I run wbinfo -u, all of the users appears in the list, as well when I run wbinfo

Problem with samba 2.2.3a configured to use domain security
I am having a problem with getting samba 2.2.3a to work with our current set up. I used to have samba 2.0.7 working perfectly, but decided to upgrade to try and get Win2k clients to be able to access the shares on the UNIX system hosting samba. When I try and access any of the shares on samba (it doesn't matter who the client is) I get the following messages produced in the log file:

session setup rejected by PDC and BDCs (NT4 SP5)
Hi, I?ve setup a Samba 2.0.5a on a SuSe 6.2 based Linux 2.2.10. I?m trying to integrate the server into our NT domain SF-DOM as described in samba/textdocs/DOMAIN_MEMBER.txt . Problems with security = domain/server and samba 2.0.6
Every 12. day or so domain members changes passwords in the NT domain, and after a while (5 minutes normally) the NT PDC starts to sync against the BDCs in the domain. Before this syncing is done the authentication of new connections usually fails. We have a pretty large NT domain with 40.000+ users and the syncing process can take up to one hour, causing samba authentication to fail during this
