accessing Windows shares with smbount garbles german Umlaute
>From what I've been able to gather this problem is very common, but I din't
find any solution on groups.google.com, maybe somebody here can help?
Problem: I create a file on a windows machine called
sm?rebr?d.txt
and mount said drive from a Linux machine via smbmount, there it becomes:
sm?rebr?d.txt
Had this problem with local disks, too, but fixed that by adding
iocharset=iso8859-1

Problem with sieve and german umlauts
Dear list,
I?m running a postfix (2.5.6) / Dovecot (1.1.11) on a Centos 5.2 box.
I?ve written a small gui application to simply create Out of Office
replys with sieve. The resulting code did work with maildrop without any
problems. Now sieve fails when it meets any german umlauts like ? or ?.
It just stops compiling the scripts and complains about the missing
"};". A simple fix is

Umlaute and Sharing with both SAMBA and Helios Ethershare.
Hi all
I have samba 1.9.18 and 2.0.2 shares which are also shared to the
macintosh world with Helios ethershare running under Solaris 2.5.1 and
2.6. I can create files and directories with the German special
characters "umlaute" and "sz" with either client. My problem is that the
macintoshes can't access directories created from the PCs whose name

Problems with German umlauts
Hi,
I'm running samba-1.9.18p4 on Solaris with Win95-Clients. In general
this works fine.
My Problem:
When a file or directory name on the server contains German umlauts,
these characters show up different on the client. (It works well on
the solarnet clients via NFS)
I've tried
character set = ISO8859-1
as well as
client code page = 850
(that's what my client uses, which is

rails 3 : german umlauts in controller
Hi everybody,
with rails 3 I have the problem that the controllers don''t accept german
umlaute anymore.
E.g. when I try to build an array:
landschaft = %w[ Berg Hügel Tal Ebene]
I get this lovely error message: ... controller.rb:5: invalid multibyte
char (US-ASCII)
Sure enough the document encoding of the controller is utf8.
Can anyone of You point me to the right direction?
Thanks

Nonlinear Least Squares nls() programming help

values, colC and I'm running into trouble. I am not sure how if I am asking
the program to do what I think its doing, because the same minimization in
Excel's Solver does not run into problems. If anyone can tell me what is
going wrong, and why I'm getting a singular convergence(7) error, please

Agent setup
Dear Group,
I have been successful in setting up the Agents, queues and getting agents
to log in.
Is there a way that I could configure the system so that the agent is called
back. i.e. the agent logs into the system, a call is destined for them and
their phone rings.
If some one has this setup I would be very interested in hearing from them.
Warm Regards and Thanks

change values in data frames
Hello every body,
I am quite a new user of R so I beg your pardon for this naive question and
the lake of syntax with wich I ask it:
I have a data frames like this:
cola colb
1 c
1 i
1 i
1 c
2 i
2 c
2 c
2 i
2 i
...
10000
I would like ,for each level of cola and for x in colb:
-if colb[x]=="i" and colb[x-1] does not exist (first row in dataframes),
then replace colb[x] by
