Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module

Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made
it work? FAQs

HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP
Hello,
I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print servers.
I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba.
I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers

IP printing to Jetdirect boxes
All,
Hey hey, am new so if this is way basic, flame on. ;-) I have a Dell
Poweredge 2300 running RedHat 6.0 and whatever versions of samba and
such that are part of that distribution. Samb 'works' from the
standpoint of file sharing and printing in a sense. The issue is that
the printer is an HP Laserjet 4 connected via an external HP Jetdirect
box running IP. The only connection to

Best Printer Setup
Hi,
I've been toying with the idea of using the Linux machine as a print
server. I'm using RedHat 5.2 and Samba 2.0.3. I already have one remote
printer share working... but I can't figure out where the PrintTool in
RedHat is storing the remote printers IP address. Anyone know where? :)
(not important just bugging me - I hate when OS's hide stuff)

jetdirect printer configuration
I am trying to set up a jetdirect plotter in our network (samba server
running un suse linux 6.2).
When I start printing from on of the windows boxes everything seems fine
but the printing files only show up in the spooling directories on the
samba server. The plotter (HP Designjet 650 C) never receives anything.
Here are the relevant parts of my smb.conf and my printcap file:

my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello,
It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out
some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I
have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two
queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and
displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The
output of the lpq

Designjet 1050C, JetDirect question
Any problems serving up this plotter with Samba 2.2.4?
I am using RH 7.3, the plotter has a jetdirect card. I am not using samba
print drivers, just passing it through raw to 192.168.21.50:raw1. Planning
to let windows 98 clients use their own drivers.
I couldn't get a job to print (from linux or windows). I ran out of time for
today, picking up again on Monday.
Any gotcha's I need to

Win2k Printing Problems
I just joined this list, If this has been answered before I apologize:
I have a Redhat 7.2 box running Samba 2.2.4
I have a few printers running on JetDirect boxes that I am attempting
to print to.
I used printconf in Redhat to set them up within the linux box.
Everything works fine from the linux box.
I set them up within samba (see [printers] below), but when I print I

Win'95 printer lock-ups & filters
Greetings all,
I hope this is appropriate for this list, if not I'll take it somewhere
else. ;-)
Printer lock-ups:
I have some printer shares available on my Samba server (RedHat Linux
kernel 2.0.32, Samba 1.9.18p3) and they are working just fine in most
cases, but from time to time the Win '95 client will either lock up while
printing or send a print job samba & lpd don't like

Samba Printing
Good Afternoon,
We recently added encrypted smb passwords to our site.
I just tried to add a printer to samba and it will not work.
I tried to connect to \\sambahost\printer and it will not connect.
All the older printers still work. I just wonder if there is an
extra step I need to perform now when I add printers?
Thanks for your time,
Bill

JetDirect
Hi,
WOW, this was posted over a year ago! A response now.
The problem still exists. As reconfirmed in a post i read not to long ago
(within the last 2 weeks?). HP jetdirect cards can only do one thing at a
time. (HP has been writing Jetdirect firmware for 5 years, PLEASE HP you
_MUST_ have the ability to fix it?! Or don't you??)
This can be confirmed if you have an NT only shop. In the

Slow printing to HP jetdirect from cups
I've googled for this and poked around linuxprinting.org, but couldn't
find anything helpful.
I have a CentOS 5 server with an HP LaserJet 4 attached via JetDirect
with the hplip driver. The problem is that when I have multiple print
jobs in the queue, there is a delay of about 15 seconds between each
job. This gets very annoying when there are 10-15 one-page jobs in the
queue.

Favorite print command for SAMBA on Sol 2.5.1
I am having problems with the HP printers that are being handled by a
Solaris 2.5.1 machine. The boring details are towards the end.
The SAMBA print command I currently use is:
print command = echo %u - %s to %p at %T >> /tmp/smb-print.log ; \
lpr -P %p %s ; \
rm %s
;
These are EXACTLY the way they are in the smb.conf file. The server will

Jet Direct Printers and Plotters
We have a HP Design Jet 650C Plotter which is hooked to the net via a
jetdirect nic. Now I dont have a clue on how to use this plotter over
the net. It doesent show up in the network neighborhood and I cant find
anything about jetdirect plotters in the Linux documentation or the
inet. The server is running Suse Linux 6.2 and Samba 2.05a.

printing LARGE files
hello,
I am wondering how to print LARGE files..
samba seems to trunkate large files..
I changed my printer command = lp -d%p %s
to no avail.
If I print the file to the disk on the server I can then issue
an lp -dhp5si LARGEFILE and it prints fine.
any suggestions??
thanks in advance.

Win98 command line vs. long filenames
I just cranked up Samba 2.0.6 on NetBSD-sun3 1.4. The clients are
Windows 98 (non-SE). I have had experience with earlier versions of Samba,
so I was able to get 2.0.6 up and running without great difficulty. I
exported a directory and was able to mount it on my Win98 machines fine.
Using Explorer, everything looked like I expected it to: files were
listed with their full names and I was able

Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I have encountered a strange printing problem with Samba 2.2.4 running under
HP-UX 11i.
In the process of investigating a printing problem, I have found that Samba
has stopped passing jobs along to the UNIX lp spooler as of yesterday
afternoon.
When NT/W2K clients print to printers on my server, the jobs are accepted,
Samba
spool files are created in the spool directory defined for the printer
