Redhat 7.2 using Onstream tape backup
I'm having trouble geting an Onstream DI30 tape drive to work on Redhat 7.2. The web site says kernel 2.4.x doesn't need a driver patch, but 2.2.x does. It shows how to install the patch, but doesn't say anything about getting it to work on 2.4.x, except that it works. I see it at bootup, but not when I try to use it. Please help, Stephen -------------- next part -------------- A

Coping music from tapes
OS: CentOS 5.0 x86. Hi, I have some old music tapes and a walkman, and want to move the music to mp3 format. So far I am thinking to use Audacity to record the music to wavs, and then do not know, somehow I will compress the wavs to mp3s as vbr 192 Kbps with something. Has anyone done this? What app did you use for recording the music from the tapes and what app did you use to make it mp3?

Command to get tape capacity status?
I have an Overland tape library connected, via SCSI card, to an out-of-box, full install of C5 install on an old PC. I have a script that uses tar to archive data to tape and mtx to change tapes. What I don't know, if possible, is to obtain the status of how much tape is left in the drive. If I get a write failure, I'd like to know if the tape is bad or has run out of space. I

[HW/OT] Recommend vendor to recover data from LTO4 tapes
Posting here in the hope that some one may have encountered problems with recovery from backups on LTO4 media and found a solution. Back ups on FujiFilm LTO4 media (800/1600). Archives created using tar -cf /dev/nst0. ?The tapes were fine when the archives were created (tested by extracting random sample files from them) but something went wrong in storage (no physical damage). Now a few LTO4

CentOS Server Backup Options
What do you guys recommend for backing up a small CentOS server in a business environment. It will have (3) 300gb drives in a raid 5 array but I don't anticipate more than about 25gb of data that needs to be backed up each night. I want a lot of backups with a rotation scheme that included daily, weekly, and monthly copies. I want the daily copies of the data kept until the next week, and

Rsync signatures and incremental tape backup
Hello, Andrew Trigdell's original rsync paper (actually thesis) discussed the idea of using rsync to make incremental tape backups based not on whole files but rather parts of files. Sadly, this functionality is not actually present in the rsync program. I'd like to explore adding this ability. There are basically three things that need to be done to enable efficient (partial-file)

udev by-id symlinks randomly missing for tape drives on centos5
Hello! I'm having problems with udev /dev/tape/by-id/ symlinks.. it seems symlinks to tape drives are sometimes (randomly) missing after reboot. Server in question has IBM TS3200 tape library connected with 2 drives in it.. so /proc/scsi/scsi shows 3 devices: 2 tape drives, and 1 medium changer (tape library). So I should have 3 symlinks in /dev/tape/by-id/ directory.. 2 symlinks to tape

Fw: Error attaching tape drive device to KVM guest
A quick follow-up in case anyone else is trying to use IBM tape device within a KVM guest. I didn't get SCSI passthrough below working, but there were two alternatives recommended to me: (1) Use PCI passthrough to give the KVM guest dedicated access to the Fibre Channel HBA PCI card. PCI passthrough seems to be more solid. (2) Use ISCSI to share the tape devices and tape changer

persistent generic device for tape changer
I've taken you as far as I can go. ?Now you will have to experiment a bit for your use case. ?I should point out that at least in my system, the link with the serial number in it shows up even with the line commented in the rules file. As always, YMMV. On Thu, 2019-02-07 at 22:29 +0100, Helmut Drodofsky wrote: > Hello Ron, > > sounds good. I have 2 tape changer. I persume, udev
