Writing a DVD
Hi there. I am unsuccessfully trying to write a data DVD on FreeBSD 4.8. The writer is a Sony DVD RW DRU-500A on IDE. I'm using the atapicam driver. The media is a Sony DVD+RW which arrived with the writer. Both with cdrecord ProDVD (from the ports or otherwise) and dvdrtools I get a general SCSI retryable error message, when trying to write a data track or blank a DVD. I have no

NEC 1300A DVD-R writing
Hi, so I just bought a NEC 1300A, primarily, because it allows me to write DVD+ and -RW. Using DVD-R discs (and currently no options to try other media, due to shops being closed), I'm unable to write anything, using either the dvd+rwtools port, or the dvdrtools. I've exhausted all references to be found in google, which are in a language I understand, so I'm hoping the list can

MOre on buring ISOs
So right now I have installed k3b on this notebook. I am using my Storix DVD/CDRW usb drive. I can read cds with it. Cannot burn CDs. First k3b suggests slowing down (from 8x to 4x). Then use TAO. Then it gave up. So I try cdrecord directly. -checkdrive finds some interesting things. Got to close the drive manually; cdrecord says it can't. then try a cdrecord -v dev=dev/scd0 sample.iso

DVD writer problem
I have an NEC DVD-RW ND2500A (that's not the label I bought it under, but that's what it really is.) It's supposed to read/write CDs, DVDs, DVD+Rs, and DVD-Rs. I'm basically dual booting between XP and CentOS 4. Following the recipe in "The Linux Cookbook", I tried to copy a DVD using: dd if=/dev/hdd of=/tmp/diskfile.iso then cdrecord dev=/dev/hdd fs=32m

OT: cheap DVD-RAM media?
A bit off-topic. Not a question on how to get it working, but rather question about an practical issue after you get it to work ;-) I got a DVD burner that supports DVD-RAM (in addition to standard DVD+R/-R). I really liked "use it just like hard disk" properties of DVD-RAM, and according to some sources I found, the media itself is more resistant to ageing than standard DVD+R/-R.

CentOS-6.5 - CD/DVD does not sense media
I dealing with problem 1 - see previous message - I set about creating a live DVD on my development system. Now I find that I cannot seem to mount a medium in that drive. wodim --devices reports it as present and so does cdrecode. I can use the eject utility to toggle the tray open and closed. But when I load a blank dvd or cd in that unit I get nothing on my desktop - in other words I am not

Problems with SATA DVD+-RW drive
I just got a Dell Dimension e521 (AMD 64 x2, nVidia MCP51 chipset) and so far it has been fine. Today I tried to burn some CD-R and DVD-R disks and have been able to do nothing but make coasters. The drive is a TSST TS-H653a (Samsung OEM) and does have the current firmware. Playing back data, audio, and video disks work just fine, but recording is a different matter. The drive shows up as

Cuesheets and metaflac
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I'm trying to use flac to make backups of my CD collection, and am running into problems with disks that contain a pregap (or lead-in) before the start of track one. cdrdao rips these disks *WITHOUT* the pregap, and puts a PREGAP entry into the cue file. For my test CD (Police, Synchronicity, catalog# 0082839373524) I get (in part): TRACK 01

Closing a multi-session disk
I have a disk which is not being recognised for reading, and I suspect that it may be a multi-session disk which has not been closed. K3b seems to agree with me, since it lists it as an appendable data cd. However, I can't find any way to close the session in k3b. I thought I remembered that it was possible to do that in xcdroast - which is almost certainly the application that burned

TRANS.TBL files on Win95 fileserver
I have a small LAN in my basement, with my PC running RH5 Linux and a Win95 PC connected by Samba. Everything works fine, but when I smbmount a CD (burned with xcdroast) from the Linux box (CD is in the Win95 machine) I do not get the proper filenames. All files are uppercase, and the TRANS.TBL files appear to be ignored. I have tried playing with name mangling, but it didn't help. Is this a

CD Baby using FLAC to archive 40,000 CDs

You don't actually lose the audio data, right, just the structure of the CD (which can probably be captured with cue files anyway)? I've ripped CDs with pregap audio before, and I'm pretty sure it's not getting

FLAC CD Archive
I see that this was the right place to fire off this question. Thanks for your feedback. It has given me a base to start some trials. I used to use EAC on Windows, but I tend to only use open source software as much as possible and I don't use Windows any more. I gave a brief look at abcde, but it is clear I need to look at this some more. It looks like it has the potential to do everything I

Lesson Learned
Hello all, I learned a very valuable lesson this weekend and thought I would share. I noticed that the xcdroastalpha15-rhel3.i386.rpm's non root mode didn't work very well, so I decided to set out an build my own rpm for it. Well I still can figure out how to add icons to the Main Draw but did finally build a good working RPM. However after doing some reading on the Xcdroast web

cdrecord Error (Permissions?)
List, Sorry to trouble anyone, a google on my error from k3b lead me to a permissions issue, but after searching through several of the links (including a few forums) I've failed to turn up exactly what the permissions should be or if that is even an accurate solution. When running k3b I get an error stating that cdrecord did not exit properly. And k3b will not burn a cd. Running cdrecord

Problems with SATA DVD+-RW drive [SOLVED]
On the system I'm testing with the CD-Rom drive is IDE but the softlink at /dev/cdrom points to the scsi device and that's not working with the automounter for some reason. Each time I reinstall I have to delete the soft link and recreate it pointing at /dev/hda instead. > -----Original Message----- > From: centos-bounces at centos.org > [mailto:centos-bounces at centos.org]

How to configure CD-RW in CentOS for cd burning using cdrecord
Dear all, I am using CentOS 4.4 Version Now.I want to Burn multi session CD using commands "mkisofs" and "cdrecord" on command prompt. I don't know how to configure the cdwriter(Samsung)? I am able to find the device using "cdrecord -scanbus" but when I want to get next track of already written cd using "cdrecord -dev=X.X.X -msinfo", system displays
