Errors when NT4sp3 is the client; 95 works
I am trying to get Samba 2.0.3 up on MacOSXServer (which is BSD 4.4). I
can't get NT to recognize samba shares. Samba is running as security=server,
pointed to an NT PDC for security (using the netbios name; should this be by
ip address?); passwords are encrypted.
I can use smbclient to attach to my own samba shares. I can also attach to
other NT shares as a client and view network lists.

pwdump on german NT
Hi,
I had trouble getting the pwdump program to work correctly on a german
version of NT4SP3.
I believe the problem is based on the fact that the german group
'Administrators' is called 'Administratoren', and Administrators is
hard-coded into the utility. Would it be possible to make that an optional
parameter?
Unfortunately, I have no access to a C-Compiler on an NT-station, so

File copy speed differences... writing to SAMBA is faster than reading from it??!
Here's an interesting thing I notice between NTSP3 and Linux 2.0.33+ w/samba
1.9.18p8 [TCP_NODELAY, read prediction on, SND and RCV buffers to 64k, though
I've tried 16k, 32K, 64k, max size 2k, 4k, 8k, 16k, no difference]
When I copy a file from any share to my NT's HD, I get perhaps 280KB/sec.
When I copy from NT HD to Samba share, I get almost 1MB/sec. Doesn't matter

3.0.10 not joined NT4 domain
Hi, all!
In the end I want to make Squid authorize users via NT4 domain.
I have Samba 3.0.10 (further named PROXY) and NT4SP3 PDC
(named CONTROL).

Joined domain: REGENT.CENTER.
It seems to be OK, but the following record appears in PDC's

SMBFS stack overflow?
Sorry about the previous message...
Note that the maintainer listed in MAINTAINERS is no longer active, so
perhaps it should be updated?
I've found a problem with SMBFS and *really* long pathnames. It causes
the kernel to OOPS, and sometimes corrupts the kernel stack. I've even had
it corrupt the SLAB allocator so bad that no binary could be run :)

NT/UNIX/Samba passwords synchronization
I have a prerelease version of Samba 2.0.4 running successfully on MacOSX
Server with encrypted passwords and domain security. (Thanks to help from
Bill Chin and others on the list, and Jeremy Allison and rest of the samba
team) I have just started work on testing Samba as a NT domain member, and
want to know if I have the right ideas from my reading of the docs:
With security = domain, the Samba

Samba 2.0.3 and NT Clients
Hello everbody,
I have a small problems with Samba 2.0.3/SuSE 6.1 and my Windows NT Clients:
As long as I'm working with Win311/95/98 clients everything is OK, but when
I try to connect with a WinNT 4.0 client, I get the following errormessage
(translated from german, so the US message may sound a little different):

NT machines keep taking over my master browser
Hi all,
I have a machine running Samba (2.0.5a/Solaris 7) which is supposed to be the
master browser from my domain. It's been running fine for a couple of weeks.
But today it seems that some of the NT workstations are overriding it in
elections and are becoming the master browsers (and the Samba server is
giving up).
I've SIGKILL'ed the nmbd processes, but after they wake up they

Win 9x and WinNT Clients connecting to Samba-Server
Hello,
I know I should get rid of the problem by my own, but unfortunally I failed.
So I ask:
I`ve a subnet of win9x and WinNT clients connecting to our Linux file
server (no more servers in this subnet)
via samba 2.02. All win95 can see and mount services of the Samba server.
But win98 and WinNT can only see the server but can not connect to a service.
I`ve no encryption and security= user in

Once more into the breech (browsing problems)
Howdy all:
I thought I had this problem beaten into submission, but I guess
not. We just got our first NT box, which is another new wrinkle...
Anyway, the LAN just went belly-up again yesterday, and when the
LAN guy disconnected my linux/samba box from the network, Network
Neighborhood came right back. I still don't think it's a
linux/samba problem, but I'm certainly no

Problems for samba server appearing in browser list
Hi,
I've set up samba 2.0.2 on a sun e 3500 to export a drive.
I have no problem mapping the drive to NT 4.0 if I use the
ipaddress or the \\machine_name\drive method. However it will
not appear in the browse list of available machines in the
relevant domain. As you may have guessed I know nothing about
NT.
The NT domain I want it to be part of is called BGIC which is
what I presume you put

Samba 2.0.3 and NT/9x

In the WinNT.txt file there is the following proposal:

every client who may ever want to browse a non passworded share on the

Samba and Novell
WARNING Newbie question WARNING
I am attempting to get Samba up and running. It is installed on a RH5.2
box, and everything went pretty well. I can see the samba box in Win95
network neighborhood, but I can's connect to it. I am suspecting that the
Novell 4.1 box on our network is interfering. I can't seem to find a good
document on samba/novell stuff, so any assistance would be
