guest access and printer serving
Hello!
I have a Linux box that has a HP LaserJet 5L printer connected to it
and Samba (2.0.3) providing a print service for Win95 clients
connected to the LAN. How can I make Samba NOT ask for a password
whatsoever when a Win95 client connects to the print service?
I also have a printing related problem: when I print something from a
Win95 client it comes out fine, but I always get an extra

SWAT issue
I have had a RH5.2 server running Samba up for a long time. I upgraded to
Mandrake 6.0. It broke Samba, so I reinstalled using the RPM on the CD.
Samba works just fine, but SWAT will not! If I try to start it manually
(/usr/sbin/swat) it just hangs.
In /etc/services I have a line like this:
swat 901/tcp
In /etc/inetd.conf I have:
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root

HP LJ6 prints blank page at end of W95 print job
I'm trying to use an HP LJ6 as a network printer on a Samba server (linux).
Everything works fine except... whenever a W95 print job finishes, the
printer throws a blank page. I've tried everything short of hex dumping the
output - I've tried using a minimal printcap entry with no filtering, I've
tried using apsfilter... The really odd thing is the binary data itself

mailbox sorting issue
Thanks for the "junk at end" help. Now I'm having one more perplexing
issue:
When I sort a Dovecot mbox in Pine, the most recent messages tend to
linger near the bottom of the message list, regardless of how they're
sorted. Here's a snippet of the bottom of the list, sorted by arrival
time:

Can't validate USER@DOMAIN in Runas
I have my XP-Pro machine setup as a member of an Samba-based Domain server.
I usually run as "linda@<localmachine>", but wanted to try running a
program using "RunAs" in the "Home", DOMAIN my machine belongs to. The
runas command says:
RUNAS [ [/noprofile | /profile] [/env] [/netonly] ]

On linux, to get 'domain\user' to resolve, I had to have
those entries in my /etc/passwd (and /etc/group for groups).
I.e. *w/o krb*, (in samba 3.x), I had entries like:

Forcing user/group with winbindd
Is it possible to force a particular user/group to own files when using
winbindd?
I have tried force user without any success.
What I need to be able to do is have the system administrators connect to
the user's account and then have the use access files placed in their
directory. When I do this currently, the owner is root and the group is
domain admins.
Following is how the share is

Why isn't "<Domain>\<User>' = to <User> on PDC? Isn't it supposed to be?
When I access my PDC, via a unix service,
from a Domain client with a domain login,
the PDC attempts to validate <Domain>\<User> against the the
authentication DB, but on a mounted file system,
a user on the PDC = '<domain>\<user>' ... (which is what
I thought it should be).
But if I use 'ssh <Pdc>',
it authenticates as user 'Domain\User'

simple migration 2.8 -> 3.02; simple test cases fail
I've been going back and forth over the HOWTO on bringing up a new samba
3.0 server in place of
an old 2.8.
I only have about 2-3 users, so even recreating them isn't a major pain
-- but what does seem to be
a pain is password authentication. I was using smbpasswd before, and am
using it in my 3.0 setup
as well. I'm running a version for Suse90 pointed to off of their
support

Reliable Samba just stopped mounting Windows machine
I have been mounting a Windows machine with no problems whatsoever for
the year. Suddenly this afternoon it won't mount any more. No recent
changes have been made on the machine. The only thing I've done
recently is load and get Thunderbird working. Most things are done as
user not root in KDE xterms.
My Linux machine is Slackware Linux 10.0.
There is an iptables firewall that

To be honest, I can't follow you. I see that I have inconsistent
permissions (but all the same owner and group). I did use a different
mail server software in the past, but that's long ago and I can't even
remember when I switched to Dovecot. I think it was Courier-IMAP before.
Maildirs for new mailboxes are still created by one of my own scripts so
maybe that script creates the

Could this be a rights issue?
I'm pretty new to Samba, so I appologise if this is a really dumb
question, but I can't find a way through it.
I have created a samba share on my Linux box for the users home
directory, and can map a drive to the share from W2K clients and
see/open all the files, the problems arise when I try and edit or create
files, from the W2k client.
If I attempt to create a file through windows
