I'm a new linux user trying to run samba on Linuxppc R5 but smbd doesn't
appear to be responding properly. Both nmbd and smbd are configured as
daemons and netstat lists netbios-ssn as listening. I can't find anything
else that would conflict starting from inetd. Nmbd appears to work as I can
list the available servers and the server is seen by the clients but I don't

OK, I've got the following problem:
I just installed Samba-2.2.4 on a kind of LFS. The client seems to work well (at least on remote machines), but when I try to print the local share list..... here it goes:

ip: 192.168.0.1

Problem with smbclient->MSDOS Server
Hi All,
Here's an interesting one... I need to be able to connect smbclient on a
linux machine to a dos based machine, which is running MSCLIENT and the
WG1049 patch. I can browse to the machine and see all the files from
Network Neighbourhood in Windows, but if I try and go in with:
smbclient \\GAUGE1\C, or even just smbclient -L GAUGE1
all I get is:
Added interface ip=10.0.1.1

SMBClient authentication failing, always connecting as "Guest"
Hi:
I'm running Samba 1.9.18p10 on a RedHat 5.1 linux with kernel 2.1.124.
My compile options were: -DLINUX -DALLOW_CHANGE_PASSWORD
-DFAST_SHARE_MODES -DNO_ASMSIGNALH -DGLIBC2
(incidently, I had to edit includes.h somewhat to get stuff to compile
under this config. There were several definition conflicts and missing
defs.)
Whenever I make a smbclient connection to our nt servers, my

Problem with smbclient
Hi!
I have a problem with smbclient and the option -M.
I'd like to send Winpop Messages to my Windows Clients.
I have noticed that command only works with short hostnames.
I have for example a win95test1.no.domain host. Name resolution is done
by
bind 8 on the samba box.
if I do
echo "Test PopupMessage" |smbclient -M win95test1
it works. (The winpopup.exe program is of course

security = server problem
I am using Samba 2.0.9 on S1 SuSE box and Samba 2.2.5 on S2 Suse box. S1
is acting as PDC for 98, NT clients.
(logon script, shares from S1, and S2). Users's passwords are stored on
S1, S2 uses security = server and
password server = S1 options in smb.conf.
I have upgraded both to Samba 2.2.8, but the logon script wants to
connect to share from S2, it is
prompted for a password.
I have

smbclient-2.2.8a cannot connect to samba-3.0.0 server
Hi
I have a problem with subject. I have a samba 3.0.1 server to which both
windows and linux (using smbclient version 3) users can connect perfectly.
But smbclient version 2.2.8a or earlier users cannot connect to this
server. I have searched release notes, changelogs, the linux.samba
newsgroup and found no indication of others having the same problem. Most
likely it is something I have
