Umlaute and Sharing with both SAMBA and Helios Ethershare.
Hi all I have samba 1.9.18 and 2.0.2 shares which are also shared to the macintosh world with Helios ethershare running under Solaris 2.5.1 and 2.6. I can create files and directories with the German special characters "umlaute" and "sz" with either client. My problem is that the macintoshes can't access directories created from the PCs whose name contains special

Bug samba 2.0.4 ?
Hi I just installed Samba 2.0.4 under Solaris 2.5.1 Now when someone trys to save a MS Word file to his home directory on the SUN he gets a "not enough permissions" msg. Looking on the unix side I see a file ~WRD1741.tmp with permissions of 000 . I upped the log level to 3 and found this .. call_nt_transact_set_security_desc: file = forNT/~WRD1741.tmp, sent 0x7 [1999/05/19

Request for iproute2/shorewall engineer
Dear Sirs, I try to setup a quite complex routing scenario with iproute2, shorewall, bonding and hundrets of vlans as well as a lot of different virtual routing tables. In the past it was often possible to get great support directly by shorewall list but since the routing becomes more complex I do see a need to have a brief consulting by an experienced engineer. Shorewall list recommended me

SSH command when uploading files
Hello I've searched quite a bit, but have so far been unsuccessful in finding an answer to a question I have concerning the upload of files via rsync over SSH. When downloading, I have been able to make use of SSH's benefits, yet still keep the rsync server safe from a shell accessible with a private SSH key lacking a passphrase by restricting the public key used by the rsync client to

bug in channel_still_open() ?
channel_still_open() does not count "larval" channels as open. If the server sets up a protocol 2 connection with no remote command (as with "ssh -N ..."), the "server-session" channel remains larval, and the server exits as soon as it notices that there are no open channels besides this one. Typically, it exits right after the first use of a port forwarding closes.

Difference between samba 2.0.0beta4 and NT4.0 ?
Hi Samba-gurus, I have a problem with samba 2.0.0beta4 on solaris 2.5.1 (samba 1.9.18p10 behaves the same) : 1. I have a ordinary text-file on a samba-share (foo.txt). NT4.0 sees the samba-share (\\sun100\tmp) as a netdrive with the letter K:. I've done a 'net use k: \\sun100\tmp'. 2. I can doubleclick in NT4.0-explorer on foo.txt and notepad comes up correctly. 3. I

mechanize: 400 Bad Request
Hello, when trying to access a certain HTML-frame, I get: "in `request'': Unhandled response (WWW::Mechanize::ResponseCodeError)" and the page returns: "400 Bad Request" * Why? * How to solve this? With browser, it works. In the logs below, I marked 4 lines with "***", where I see possible differences in the URI. But I don''t know, if this is

fsck'ing a mounted fs
Hi. Is there any reasonable possibility to check a mounted fs for errors? It would be useful to have server-filesystems (and harddisks) checked periodically on machines that are only rebooted by hardware-failures ;-) Regards, Christian -- * Christian A. The clients cannot even see the network domain in the explorere window. I believe the problem is

client side options -- KeyRegenerationInterval
The SSH-1 protocol does not provide for negotiation of the server key replacement interval; it is a purely server-side parameter. -- Richard Silverman slade at shore.net

Spatial Probit in R
Estimation of spatial probit models is as far as I know not implemented functions in the spdep package of R. I am looking for a scripting that handles both endogeneity and heteroscedasticity in spatial probit models. This estimator was first suggested by Case (1992). If someone could provide me with such an R-script I would be most grateful. Moreover I would be interested in obtaining script for

OpenSSH-2.2.0 problem with ssh.com ssh-agent2
The OpenSSH and ssh.com agents use a completely different set of messages for dealing with DSA keys, so I don't expect the OpenSSH client to be able to get DSA keys from ssh-agent2. However, if I'm running "ssh-agent2 -1", I expect OpenSSH to be able to use RSA keys stored in ssh-agent2's agent1 compatibility box. And it does. However, there's a problem. If I'm

patch to select pkalg
Suppose an SSH server has both RSA and DSA host keys for protocol 2, but I only have the DSA key, and I want to use that. I'm stuck; the OpenSSH client is hard-wired to offer both algorithms in the key exchange, and will select ssh-rsa if it's available (see myproposal.h, KEX_DEFAULT_PK_ALG). Below is a patch adding the client configuration option "PKAlgorithms" for this

samba 2.2.1a and WAN-Shares
Hi out there, I`ve not a real problem (currently), but a few questions on wan-wide (read: low bandwidth) share distribution with samba 2.2.1a. The setup described below was developed in a hurry (was needed by tomorrow :-\). Are there better ways to do this? What are the pros and cons of using the msdfs - options in this situation? Has anyone set up a similar share topology? If so, would you
