dos?
I have an old dos app that doesn't run in the win95 shell very well. There are problems with the graphics. Is it possible to connect to a samba server from real dos? I assume the answer is no but I thought I would check. Verne Ball vball@socrates.berkeley.edu

Regarding Samba issue
I am experiencing a problem with all time stamps having the same date and time stamp. I found this bug report http://us1.samba.org/listproc/samba/June1998/0239.html and see there is a fix. The question I have is has this issue been resolved in later versions of Samba code. It would be easier to upgrade than deal with a code change and re compilation. Shares are comming and going
Hia, I have a problem using the %G parameter. At the end if my smb.conf file I have something like: include = \etc\smb.conf.%G At this way I hoped that according the the group, I can load a configuration file accoring the the users group. Instead that a 'smb.conf.it' group is loaded, a samba tries to load 'smb.conf.nogroup' (guest account is uid=nobody gid=nogroup) WHat I

2.0.4b: logrotate problems with rh60
The 2.04b rpm for rh60 ships with and installs a config file for logrotate (the samba.log file in the packaging/RedHat section). ===== /var/log/samba/log.nmb { postrotate /usr/bin/killall -HUP nmbd endrotate } /var/log/samba/log.smb { postrotate /usr/bin/killall -HUP smbd endrotate } ===== 1) I think that the use of "endrotate" is wrong. smbpasswd fails on Samba 2.0.3, HPUX 10.20
I have been unable to make smbpasswd work on my new Samba version 2.0.3 (HPUX 10.20). The smb.conf was modified from a working version on Linux (version 1.9.18p8). The relevant (I hope) output from smbpasswd, smb.log and testparms follow below. Are the log messages about "Couldn't set effective gid to -24 currently set to (real=0,eff=0)" and "Can't become connected

auditing/closecmd/smbwebstatus patch updates
I'd like to take a moment to thank the samba team for a painless upgrade from 2.0.2/3 to 2.0.4. configure, make, stop, install, start. It was a joy. Woo woo! I've updated for 2.0.4 the patches for my auditing system, the close command parameter and smbwebstatus. Everything should be accessible at http://www.reac.com/samba/ auditing: http://www.reac.com/samba/samba-audit.html This

what about a mascot ?
My friend Veslot proposed me the Raven ! http://www.teteamodeler.com/allopass/images/corbeau.jpg As a matter of fact the intelligence of this bird is comparable to one of a monkey, although its brain is close to a reptile brain. R is quite the same : small, compact, but so clever. This is a canadian website explaining (in french) the R-aven intelligence

hosts allow/deny not working correctly
When the world was young, "M. Tyson Bigler" <bigler@shellus.com> carved some runes like this: > I am having difficult getting the hosts allow/deny to work with IP ranges > or netmasks. Ideally I would prefer to use the IP/Netmask method, e.g. > 111.22.33.0/255.255.255.0, because we have a flat ATM network with > multiple class C's (netmask is really

how to suppress the intercept in an lm()-like formula method?
I'm trying to write a formula method for canonical correlation analysis, that could be called similarly to lm() for a multivariate response: cancor(cbind(y1,y2,y3) ~ x1+x2+x3+x4, data=, ...) or perhaps more naturally, cancor(cbind(y1,y2,y3) ~ cbind(x1,x2,x3,x4), data=, ...) I've adapted the code from lm() to my case, but in this situation, it doesn't make sense to include an

Speed/latency issues for development in a Wine environment
I am an experienced Linux developer but a Wine newbie. Recently I have been exploring the possibility of using CMake-2.8.1 and MinGW-4.5.0 in a Wine-1.1.42 environment (the backported Debian Lenny packages from WineHQ) to check that CMake-based build systems I use for various software projects work properly for that Windows platform. I am collecting notes for a wiki entry I am planning to write

Samba 2.0.3 and NT Clients
Hello everbody, I have a small problems with Samba 2.0.3/SuSE 6.1 and my Windows NT Clients: As long as I'm working with Win311/95/98 clients everything is OK, but when I try to connect with a WinNT 4.0 client, I get the following errormessage (translated from german, so the US message may sound a little different): Unable to connect to \\linux_server_01 Unable to log on with this account

DNS instead of WINS
I have not found any Samba documentation explaining using DNS for name resolution. We are running a name server on the network which was set up for several reasons. I find our DNS server is faster, more reliable and doesn't generate mangled machine names like our NT WINS server, which can't be edited. This doesn't happen with DNS since the names are all entered statically. We have

PAM problem: "no modules loaded for 'samba' service"
I'm running FreeBSD 3.0-current and have just upgraded samba to 2.0.0. Previously, I used unencrypted passwords. After upgrading, they didn't work so I changed to use encrypted ones. I can now map my drives from the PC. However, I still have a number of problems that I think are all related. - I can't use swat. The authentication always fails. I get a message on the console

influence measures for multivariate linear models
Barrett & Ling, JASA, 1992, v.87(417), pp184-191 define general classes of influence measures for multivariate regression models, including analogs of Cook's D, Andrews & Pregibon COVRATIO, etc. As in univariate response models, these are based on leverage and residuals based on omitting one (or more) observations at a time and refitting, although, in the univariate case, the
