SWAT (eroneously) reports smbd/nmbd not working
hi all,
I just installed samba 2.2.0 on a Digital SMP server and I can tell that
administering it via SWAT is the bigest step since man walking on the moon.
but...
SWAT eroneously reports smbd/nmbd not working while they are working.
And even more, the smbd/nmbd [start]/[restart] buttons have dissapeared.
Why is that ?

Swat inactive, xinetd issue?
Since I've upgraded to Redhat 7.2 I cannot get swat to work,
I am using the 2.4.7-10 kernal with samba 2.2.7 installed.
I have checked all the applicable files, edited them accordingly as per
Gary Fournerat's
excellent How-to. No joy.
I am pretty certain this is an xinetd issue. I never had this difficulty
with inetd.
I know that SAMBA is running as I can see the server from this

Swat update :)
IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!
But before I say what I did... yall have to promise not to laugh! (MAH!! I
HEAR YOU!!)
... anyone ever heard of....
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart
I can tell you from experience that 'killall -HUP xinetd' is NOT the same.
I can also say that nobody will find that command line entry in "Using
Samba".
To show my appreciation to the groups involved,

root passwd in the next entry... it tells me "Authentication
failed. Retry?" I can tell you that I did enter the correct
root passwd, because I am root

dovecot quota service for postfix
Hello,
I am trying to use dovecot quota service for postfix in order set quota
for some users.
i configure postfix policy service to ask dovecot if user quota is
sufficient to accept the email or not.
(dovecot in this case acts only as policy server to postfix as it only
ACCEPT/REJECT email according to user quota, but it is not used to deliver
email , because postfix will deliver the email to

SWAT works with Webmin but not via localhost:901
I have tried everything that I know of.
I have reviewed the services file and the swat file in xinetd.d a tun of times. It appears, via netstat that swat is listening on port 901.
However when I attempt to access it via the Mozilla browser on my Fedora server (with 127.0.0.1:901 or localhost:901) nothing happens. It just sits there.
However, if I access it via webmin (which has swat stored

need SWAT for samba 3.0.0-14.3E.i386
I have installed RedHat ES 3.0 It came with samba 3.0.0-14.3E.i386
I have no SWAT. Which one can I use? I downloaded
samba-swat-3.0.0-1.test.rh90.i386.rpm
and an rpm -i said it needs: samba 3.0.0-1.test.rh90
I downloaded samba-swat-2.2.7a-8.9.0.i386.rpm
and an rpm -i said it needs: samba 2.2.7a
Which SWAT do I need and where can I download it?
thanks, in advance.

swat on red hat 7.2
Hi,
I'm having a minor issue with swat on red hat 7.2. It won't let me make
any changes to the samba server (adding shares, printers, and global
definitions). The buttons to access these simply don't exist. I can view
status, but I can't make any changes (not even restart the daemons).
This works fine on my Debian system. The only real difference that I can
think of is inetd

Help with Swat
Hello!
I am a Linux newbie. I have put a DHCP network together (to share windows
drives on home computers) and I cannot get SWAT to work. On Redhat 7.0, SWAT
is a choice in the settings bar on the Gnome desktop. When I run swat, the
error message is something like "error, connection timed out" from Netscape.
As far as I can tell, the port is inactive "http://localhost:901"
