Configuration questions: 1.9.18p10
I've got 1.9.18p10 up and running happily on a Solaris 2.4 box. I have got the configuration set so that from my own PC (running NT4, sp4) on the same subnet, I can login with no problems. Running smbclient on the Unix box also confirms that I can use other user ID's also. Problem 1: other users do not seem to be able to login. What I think are the relevant sections of the config file

samba-announce?
Is there an announcements mailing list for samba? If not, could one please be created? I want to know when new releases are made, and when security holes are found, maybe even infrequent benchmark results, but unfortunately I don't have time to keep up with this list. My mailbox has been overflowing on a weekly basis, and it's got to stop, so I really need to decrease the volume coming

NLS question:Quadratic plus plateau fit
Dear R colleagues: Am trying to fit a simple NL model to determine Economical Optimum Nitrogen Rates. The segmented (quadratic + plateau) model only works with some y's, in some cases I get a "singular gradient" error. I'll appreciate any ideas in how to solve the singular gradient error. Thanks, Jose # The following code works using yield2 in the nls model but not using

How to remove extra spaces introduced (?) by write.table
Dear Group, My question relates to the write.table function. I have created a data.frame containing both "character" and "numeric" columns. When I use the write.table function to write this table into a text file spaces are added into the "numeric" columns so that the number of digits in each column is the same. This extra space is added before the actual number.

Resolution of plots?
Hello. I have a problem regarding the output from the R plot window. I have a quite dense dendrogram that I wish to visualize using a suitable software (like Illustrator), and to accomplish that I right click on the image from the plotting device and I save as metafile. The problem is when I scale up the image, some of the vectors in the dendrogram image are inseparable. My question is if

fwiw Please check the latinamerican keyboard exists
Hi; I did some changes which were committed on -current, but I didn't see them MFC'd. JIC, you might want to check that either lat-amer.kbd (old) OR latinamerican.*kbd are there. It would not be nice not to find either of those on the next release! cheers, Pedro. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software

FWIW- Cisco 1750 dropped packets and choppy audio
This email is intended to document an issue for anyone searching the archives. We had a problem yesterday with _all_ iax2 and sip sessions; no reasonable conversation could be established due to extremely choppy audio in one direction only (outbound from * to distant sip phones and distant * boxes). We were running HEAD from June 8th. While diagnosing the root cause, we monitored bandwidth

FWIW...
Good morning, everyone... Perhaps this will either help or encourage others interested in using CentOS as a networked workstation. It is based upon my experiences, and all other disclaimers apply. 1. I did a basic workstation install from 4.1 CD's deploying KDE and Gnome desktops and, other than a few minor issues, mostly of my making, everything went smoothly. The install process is

TDM400P, fxotune and ADSL filters - Just a FYI, FWIW
This may be commonly known but I haven't come across it so here goes, maybe it'll help someone: I have terrible echo with asterisk 1.2, zaptel 1.2.12, and a TDM400P with 1 FXS and two FXO modules. The Mark2 echo canceller with Aggressive turned on was the only setting that would make it acceptable. I found fxotune with this zaptel version to be broken. I pulled the latest fxotune.c

discrepancy in file count
Rsync counts directories as files when it's creating the file list, but does not count them as files in the "files transferred" statistic. Example output from my backup logs, when initializing a new backup volume (rsyncing a set of data to a completely empty filesystem): [2004-07-09 03:03:37] - Number of files: 75007 [2004-07-09 03:03:37] - Number of files transferred:

Tripplite SU1500RTXL2Ua and nut versions, battery line state fluctuates
I am trying to get a TrippLite SU1500RTXL2Ua working with nut on Mandriva 2007.1, is there a particular version of nut needed to get this to work? At first I tried nut 2.0.5 (which came with 2007.1) but it wouldn't work, and then research showed it was an older version of nut. So nut-2.2.1-2 src rpm was pulled from Mandriva 2008.1, the binary rpm built, and nut and nut-server installed from

After reading the help files (?Startup) and using RSiteSearch("defaultPackages"), I have been trying to add several packages to my default startup list using the following code: local({ old<-getOption("defaultPackages") options(defaultPackages=c(old,"lattice","RODBC") }) Subsequently, when I query the default list using:

RODBC Access
Dear R users, I am trying to connect an Access database. The code I use is : channel<-odbcConnectAccess("Base") table.db<-sqlFetch(Base,"table",colnames=T) When I look at the table in R, the table imported lacks the first 41 lines, and the column names are the values of the 42nd record. Any hints ? I am working on a WinXP pro 5.1 box, R 2.5-0 compiled from source

Softphone (with USB headset) for Mac recommendations
Well, I have my 7940 up and running at home, and everything's working pretty much perfectly. So, it's time to find new things to break :-). The problem de jour is long-distance calling from work: I can use my cell phone, but I'm in an inside office on the 42nd floor and it's really hard to get good reception. So, I'm thinking about running a softphone on my Mac laptop

Puzzled about the rspec tests generated by Rails3
Hi all I am puzzled about the rspec tests that are generated by Rails3 scaffolding. I am however not sure if this is the correct place to discuss this issue. It might be that a rails ML/chat is better suited for that kind of discussion. It just depends on who is responsible for that code. Somehow I am too stupid to find that out, so please bare with me if I produced only noise here. Cheers

Opening Scripts with long paths causes R 2.6.0 to crash
I am running R 2.6.0 on a PC running MS Windows 2000 Professional. After upgrading to this new version of R, I have been having problems opening scripts: opening certain scripts result in R crashing. After some experimentation, I discovered that it is a problem with the number of subdirectories in the path. For example, if the script is located in c:\Documents and
