SWAT
I was playing with this on my test machine, (redhat 5.2, samba 2.0.3) worked great, and I was really impressed. So I decided to install this on my office machine. (redhat 4.2, samba 2.0.3) and the only significant difference is that on the office machine, I use encrypted passwords. I cannot get swat to authenticate on the second machine. That is, no matter what account, password combination

net use H: /home does not work
The latest Orielly book Using SAMBA 2nd edition says that after you have created a homes share that adding this line to your logon.bat file the user's home directory will be mapped and it will be called their user name. Well the logon.bat script gets an error on this line saying that it is not the proper use of the net use command. So instead I changed the command to net use H:

Samba SWAT 2.2.7 Doesn't Work in Redhat8.0?
Hello All Samba-list Members, I have installed a Samba 2.2.7, the samba-latest.tar.gz, as a PDC on a Redhat8.0 GNU/Linux server. ( Of course, I first uninstalled the original samba that came with the Redhat installation CDs by rpm -e samba*.) The installation was successful. Then I modified /etc/services and /etc/xinetd.d/swat as suggested in the installation document uncompressed from

Administration
I know this may sound a bit lazy, but I don't really wanna bother with writing many scripts from the Administration of my SMB-2.2.2 as an NT PDC Box... (like adding users, deleting users, adding shares and modifying passwords stuffs, knowing that I do the Unix-SMB password sync)... So does anyone have good scripts, or some reference pages?? I searched everywhere in vain for that... Thanks in

SWAT works with Webmin but not via localhost:901
I have tried everything that I know of. I have reviewed the services file and the swat file in xinetd.d a tun of times. It appears, via netstat that swat is listening on port 901. However when I attempt to access it via the Mozilla browser on my Fedora server (with 127.0.0.1:901 or localhost:901) nothing happens. It just sits there. However, if I access it via webmin (which has swat stored

Swat update :)
IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!! But before I say what I did... yall have to promise not to laugh! (MAH!! I HEAR YOU!!) ... anyone ever heard of.... /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart I can tell you from experience that 'killall -HUP xinetd' is NOT the same. I can also say that nobody will find that command line entry in "Using Samba". To show my appreciation to the groups involved,

swat on red hat 7.2
Hi, I'm having a minor issue with swat on red hat 7.2. It won't let me make any changes to the samba server (adding shares, printers, and global definitions). The buttons to access these simply don't exist. I can view status, but I can't make any changes (not even restart the daemons). This works fine on my Debian system. The only real difference that I can think of is inetd

[swat] won't run
The only docs I found on getting SWAT to run, showed editing the inetd.conf file. As this version of RH (7.3) only uses xinetd things don't fit exactly. I have gone through and did everything that one should do for inetd and it still will not work. I don't normally use the thing, but this client will need the more simplistic interface to add shares, etc.

SWAT login fails
Hi, I'm a linux newbie so be nice. I have recently installed a Smoothwall Express 2 firewall with fixes7, and am trying to get a Samba server to run on this machine. I compiled the lastest stable release of samba on this machine and it seemed to go fine. I then compiled xinetd and configured the xinetd.conf file for SWAT. Using a putty SSH session I ran the the command xinetd -d to

Unable to run SWAT
I'm trying to learn Samba on a Linux 7.0 box. I've just installed Samba 2.0.7. I've been able to run all the tests in DIAGNOSIS.TXT, manually edit the smb.conf file, and I can even see some folders on the Samba server from a Windows 98 machine on my LAN. But I am unable to run SWAT on the Samba Server (or from any other computer on my LAN). Every time I enter http://localhost:901/
