Authentication on Linux6.0 that running samba-2.0.3
Hello All,
I am using Linux6.0(running samba) as a file server on my network,
everything is good when I configure samba authenticate on other

authenticate on itself (security = user) I received message error

cant rename directories on NT
Everything is working perfect on win95 but from NT4:
I can create, delete and rename files
I can create and delete directories
Problem:
I can't rename created directories from the NT4 workstations on the network. And
this is a big problem since NT4 creates a "New Folder" and asks you to type in
the name you want.
I have a 2.0.6 distribution on a SGI Origin200 Irix6.4 server. I

SWAT: How do I save the settings?
Hi,
I might have overlooked something very obvious, but:
I am running Samba 2.0.3 on a SuSE 6.0 system.
When I connect to SWAT, I can see all the settings in the Globals sections,
I can change them, but I can't find any button anywhere to *save* these
changes...
Can anyone help?

Changing SWAT user?
I just loaded Mandrake 7.1 and Samba with Webmin. I can get into Webmin
and make changes to the Samba server, but I'm not able to get smbd or
nmbd running. When I try to get into SWAT to make changes it keeps
reverting back to my login which does not allow me to make changes. Is
there a way to reset this?
Also, any ideas on why smdb and smdb is not running?

What shares are mounted on client ?
Is there anyway to ascertain what shares a client actually has mounted at a
given time?
I've got a number of WFW boxes connecting shared drives on my SCO-OSE3 box
using SAMBA 1.9.16p5 (upgrading to latest version RSN).
I've got some shell scripts on the Unix box which use escape sequences sent to
the client telnet to start programs on the client side. Some of these programs

I would like to use smbmount on a SGI running IRIX 6.5.1m. The distribution
of samba for IRIX does not include the executables smbmount or smbmnt. Is
there a source for these executables?

to change the samba password using smbpasswd program ( from a non root
account whic I use) I got an error messgae saying that it cannot change
the password. My goodness, I found that the instead of changing password
for my account smbpasswd

Looking for a similar command from Samba
Greetings group,
I am looking for something from Samba that is similar to:
nbtstat -A xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
In Windows 95.
This will give you back the registered name and some other Workstation info.
Thoughts:)
Thanks in advance!!!!

SAMBA NT
Dear folks,
We are running SAMBA (2.0.5.a) in a test-enviroment using an IBM Risc
6000 / 370 (AIX 4.3.2) as server. The frontends are pc's running NT 4.0
(SP6).
Is it possible to connect from one frontend to the same share as two
different users (with different passwords and privileges)?
The connection works out perfectly for every single user but when we try
to connect one user after the

SMB printing client driver data serving w/ Samba
Is there anyway to get Samba to pass back printer driver data
to a client the way NT print servers do. This makes life so much
easier. From the Samba source, it looks like the 'driverdata'
field for a printer is just set to the string "NULL". The
CIFS specs that I found don't discuss what should be returned in
that field. NOTE: I am already using the DRIVERNAME configuration

bug: file time travels when updating
Hi, I think I've found a bug.
When I create a file from win95 it's stored in the server with the
date of creation. (that's ok)
If I update the file from win95 the date of the file changes but
it's stored as one hour less than it should be. (not so ok)
example:
1.- I create a file at 16:45
$ ls -ld b.txt
Nov 12 16:45 b.txt
2.- I update that file one minute

Limits on smbclient -M?
Greetings-
We use smbclient -M to send a Message of the Day to clients every once in
a while. The clients are NT4 (SP3), and the server is Samba
1.9.19-prealpha. However, the same problem appears with version 2.0.0.
The issue is: once the file to be sent exceeds approximately 675 bytes
(smbclient reports sending 975 bytes, presumably including some overhead),
the message turns up blank on the

Small question.
Hello, I have a small question. I'm currently using the [homes]
section and when I am browsing with network neighborhood and
connecting with a username and password, I see two shares, one
named "username" and one named "homes" and both have the same
content: the content of the "username" home directory.
Am I doing something wrong or is it normal to see those

Is reboot the only answer?
I have created the [homes] shares and can login to any user's
home directory. This access is done via an NT box. The only userid
on NT is Administrator. If I want to switch to another linux users
home directory( or share), I have to reboot the system. I cannot log out
the user once s/he is logged on. Is reboot the only answer to access
a different user's share on linux?

"The credentials supplied conflict with " ..message
We have just upgraded from Samba 1.9.18p7 to 2.0.6.
We are now encountering this problem with 2.0.6 which was discussed
back in 1998. We never had the problem with 1.9.18p7. We haven't
changed the smb.conf as we are just using Samba in basic fileserver
mode. Is there a change we need to make to get rid of this message and
restriction occuring?

Network Computing Newsletter article...
Hey gang...
An SMB server comparison article just showed up at Network Computing.
http://www.networkcomputing.com/1104/1104f3.html
They compare three SMB servers including Samba 2.0.6 and we took
first place (barely). Zinged us on central administration. Compaq's
SMB server has central configuration and administration of multiple
servers, which they liked a lot, apparently.

File locking, Linux Redhat 6.1, samba 2.0.6 and netatalk-1.4b2+asun2.1.4
Hi,
we're trying to use the above combination with Win NT clients, but there
doesn't appear to be communication about file locking going on as the
mac users are able to corrupt samba's files, is there anything that
needs to be turned on/off on samba to tell the netatalk daemons to stop
doing nasty things? (or vice versa)
Has anybody else had problems with this particularily under
