Auth. failing - Update - NSSwitch
Thank you Andrew, you pointed me in the right direction. Part of what I m
doing to try to get Netatalk to authenticate through Winbind was the
following:
4) to install Winbind files:
cp nsswitch/libnss_winbind.so /lib
# this is the major one - solaris nss is different to linux.
ln -s libnss_winbind.so nss_winbind.so.1
cp nsswitch/pam_winbind.so /lib/security

Winbind issues! HELP!
OK. This is becoming very frustrating!!
I have Samba 2.2.3a installed on a Sun running Solaris 8. Winbind is
installed and seems to be working fine. My PC users can map the Samba share
via their NT domain account information (PDC is an NT4 box).
As soon as I copy nsswitch/libnss_winbind.so to /lib and create the symbolic
links (nss_winbind.so.1 & nss_winbind.so.2) my PC users can no

Auth. Failing... Update - NSSwitch
Yes. Try checking the PAM setup. I have to assume when you say that you
can't log in via something obvious like telnet, you mean that Windows users
can't log in. If your Unix users can't telnet in, you have bigger problems.
:)
The PAM stack is what controls the logging in of Windows users to Unix
services like telnet. There is a document which describes the installation
of winbindd,

smbd/password.c:domain_client_validate(1604)
All,
we have a SAMBA server set up that has been working great for everyone in
the corporate office, not to long ago I connected one of our foreigh offices
to us through a VPN. All of our users authenticate to our PDC, our users in
our foreign office, who is on the same domain but we have them on a
different subnet, are not able to gain access to the SAMBA shares, here in
the corporate office.

Win98 clients accessing Samba file server.
HI All
I'm in the process of setting up my first Linux box at work, a basic file
server for all 20+ Win clients (I'm sick of paying M$ CAL) all have a 'home'
directory and all share a 'shared' directory. What my problem is, everything
is working OK with WinXP/2000 I can see the shared directory and our own
home directory on the Samba box.
With Win98 I can only see and

Trusted domain Authentication
I've a problem with trusting domain authentication , I've searched the
newsgroup but found no answer .
The configuration is very simple .
A windows 2000 domain (DOMA) , which contains the samba server , and a
Windows 2003 domain (DOMB). The two are trusted by a bidirectional trust .
The problem is that users from the 2003 domain can't get authenticated by
the samba server and are

Samba authentication slow after upgrade to Samba 3
Hi,
I have just upgraded a server from Samba 2 to Samba 3 and some of the
Windows clients are taking a long time to authenticate shares (1 or 2
minutes). Eventually the username/password box appears and then when you
enter a correct password, all is fine - it is just the initial
authentication.
This is a simple UNIX password Samba server (with NIS) and I have set it

Samba, Winbind, and netatalk on Solaris 8
I am having difficulty getting Netatalk to authenticate using NT Domain via
Winbind.
I have Samba successfully installed, and winbindd is working and running.
(Tested via wbinfo)
I have placed pam_winbind.so in the /usr/lib/security directory, and have
installed netatalk with the --with-pam option, but I still cannot seem to
get it working.
Any help would be appreciated.

login and WinNT
Hello!
I was wondering if it's possible to make Windows NT and Samba 3 work
togheter. I found an old question with the same problem I have.
Samba 3 is not authenticating WinNT machines. My smb.conf is:
[global]
workgroup = DESQ-TESTE
server string = Teste (Samba %v)
interfaces = 143.106.19.25/255.255.255.192, 127.
bind interfaces only = Yes
encrypt passwords = No

Hello,
I am using cups-1.1.19final-1.deb and samba-2.2.3a. When I was working
with cups-1.1.15 before, cupsaddsmb worked fine, but now with
cups-1.1.19 it gives me:

Migration from Samba 2.2 to Samba 3.020b
Hello,
we migrate from Samba 2.2 to Samba 3.020b. We have the problem now,
that some clients can not connect to the Samba Server. In
the log there are messages like that:

setup_new_vc_session: New VC == 0, if NT4.x compatible we would close all old resources.

CryptoCard - PAM or RADIUS?
Greetings all,
I'm working on attempting to get SAMBA to work with a product line
called CryptoCard. I *should* be able to get it to work one of two ways,
either through the use of CryptoCard's provided PAM module, or through
RADIUS authentication.
Currently, I cannot seem to get PAM authentication to work at all. This
is what is in the 'samba' file for PAM:

user authentification error with new samba version
from samba 3.0.9 to 3.0.13
I can not access my shares from a NT4 box as usual
before upgrading.
I can access samba shares from linux via
mount //server/testuser /mnt -o username=testuser,password=testpass
as before.
Even the newest version (3.0.14a) from samba.org doesnt't help.
What has happened to samba ??? Any hints ??
Thanks for your thoughts,
G?tz.

Login Failure
Hi,
I've setup my Mandrake 10.0 box to use winbind authentication. However,
I noticed that root with local files password login fails at first try
after reboot. Also there's no way I can authenticate using root when
screen is locked. My nsswitch.conf looks like
passwd files nis nisplus winbind
Won't this first they local files then winbind?
