signal 6 compiling passdb.c?
Hi, I am consistently getting a signal 6 error compiling passdb.c on a certain machine. It seems to compile fine on other machines so I wonder if it might be hardware related? Compiling passdb/passdb.c gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6 make: *** [passdb/passdb.o] Error 1 Since it seems to be machine specific I have to assume hardware but I don't have problems with

How to hook WIN-NT client and WIN-95 client to Samba on Solaris2.5.1 ?
Hello Sorry for the newbie question.. I am new to Windows environment. I have setup a Samba -Version 1.9.18p10 on a Solaris 2.5.1 m/c. I want to hook WIN _NT and 95 /98 clients to it. The Win clients are on the same network and are also hooked to other Netware servers. I am not sure how this is done. I have set up entries for the Samba server in the 'lmhosts' file. The

SWAT not saving a conf file!
Hey guys, I've been using samba for quite some time now (over a year). I have a problem however, and that is that I can not seem to get SWAT to work properly. I need to have SWAT working for some of the management cluebies around here (bad idea if you ask me). Anyways, everything for SWAT is fully installed, and it appears that it works properly. Theres just one problem. You can't save

Rootless wiki page is not up to date?
If I run a docker image with the mesos containerizer and altering the dovecot config mentioned here[1] I think the root detection is incorrect because it looks like dovecot is still thinking it is root. I still get errors like: >> log(829825): Fatal: We couldn't drop root group privileges (wanted=10053(dovecot), gid=0(root), egid=0(root)) Why does it want to drop to root, if we

Samba 1.9.18 DOS to UNIX and back with ASCII
I have found that Samba does not seem to handle the ^M EOL character very well. This seems to be a big problem with Windows Notepad and then in vi for UNIX. Other than the ux2dos and dos2ux commands does anyone know of another solution or if this has been fixed in a more current release of Samba? Thanks! questions about ZFS Send/Receive
Hi guys, we are proposing a customer a couple of X4500 (24 Tb) used as NAS (i.e. NFS server). Both server will contain the same files and should be accessed by different clients at the same time (i.e. they should be both active) So we need to guarantee that both x4500 contain the same files: We could simply copy the contents on both x4500 , which is an option because the "new

Virtual Mailboxes redux
I?ve created virtual mailboxes in dovecot, and they show up in various clients, but the folders contain no messages. (I will get an ?empty? folder icon named ?@virtual? and an empty folder icon named ?month? inside it. Is there a way I can verify what dovecot THINKS should be in the virtual folder via doveadm?

Oracle and ZFS
Hi All ; One of our customer is suffered from FS being corrupted after an unattanded shutdonw due to power problem. They want to switch to ZFS. >From what I read on, ZFS will most probably not be corrupted from the same event. But I am not sure how will Oracle be affected from a sudden power outage when placed over ZFS ? Any comments ? PS: I am aware of UPS''s and

AD + winbindd(8): group permissions being ignored ? WTF ?
Hi all, I am successfully authenticating "FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #1: Wed Jul 25 17:31:15 WST 2007" against AD. Users can log in succesfully with home directories being served via amd(8) and NFS. However, I have discovered a potential "show-stopper" that will force me to abort this mission :( The problem -~-~-~-~-~- In a nutshell: Simple group permissions set with chown(1) are

Samba & Ghost BackUp Problem
Have two XP laptops that I am trying to get to back up to a Samba share with Norton Ghost 2003. My laptop is "gtwylptp" and my son's, a Dell 8600 with a broadcom 440x NIC, is "stu07-53". I am the user and group backing up both machines. "gtwylptp" backs up without a problem however "stu07-53" hangs as apparently the Lock file has "RDONLY"

swat problem with open files
Not sure when this started happening, but we first noticed it about 3 months ago. We have two seperate Samba servers, both having the same problem when using swat. Both are running 3.0.21a. When clicking on Status after logging into to swat, the Open Files section isn't displaying properly. Each process says DENY_DOS under Sharing, and under File, each process says A[] (The letter A and

PATCH: Samba/Win2K renaming bug
Hi there. I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.1 + kernel 2.4.17. My girlfriend's laptop is running Windows 2000 + service pack 2. She has about a thousand MP3s stored on a Samba share on my RedHat machine. We were finding that she couldn't rename any MP3s on the Samba share: she would always get a sharing violation. After a day of reading Samba logs at debug 10 (_such_ fun [ ;)

How to get Win 3.x, NT, W95 and W98 to all talk to Samba server
A couple of digests ago, someone posted fix to get W'59 and W'98 clients to be able to talk to a Samba server. We didn't modify the source and recompile, but instead simply returned the offending switch (nt support) to the default, and life was fine. Or so we thought. Now, Win 3.x machines cannot see the shares. So, we add (I believe only) "browseable=yes" and those

(Un)Locking shared DOS application
Hi, for some time now I'm trying to create the best environment/solve a sharing conflict around a DOS application (Clippered dBase I suscpect) that one of our clients is using and distributing over about 20 Sun 450's on a shared service 'servershare'. On every Sun there are multiple Windows 95 clients connected to diverse shares amongst which this 'servershare'. On this

Funny caching problem
Hi folks, I am experiencing a strange problem with 1.9.18p7 on FreeBSD 2.2.2. When I access files from the [homes] share, my Win95 client seems to be caching the files, and not realising that the files may have changed. For example, I can load a simple text file (from the [homes] share) into Codewright on the Win95 client. Then I edit the same file using vi on the samba server, and write out

pentium f00f crash and IP fragment bug crash fixes...
these are both fixed in 2.0.32-pre4 and 2.1.63. The 2.0.32-pre4 stuff seems very solid, though the f00f bug fix is not proper for SMP machines yet. It looks like 2.0.32-pre5 fixes the f00f bug on SMP machines properly. All of these are available on ftp.kernel.org: ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/testing/pre-patch-2.0.32-5.gz ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.1/linux-2.1.63.tgz

SIG11 at runtime
Hello. My smbd dies with SIG11. This occurs in 1.9.18p10 as well in 2.0.0beta2. I've read the Samba archive and found the article "Re: 1.9.17p4 - SIGNAL 11 error ??" from Luke and recompiled it with "-g -g". Here the results: After a "smbclient -L localhost" or any other tries to connect to the server the server dies an --- output of "gdb smbd core"
