Link to newest R GUI
Greetings, Please forward Web links for the most recent R GUI and a list of add-ons that will run in the graphic interface. I need either the R GUI for (MS) Windows Vista, or a Web-based GUI that will run longitudinal models with covariates (e.g., multilevel modeling, latent growth curves, and ARIMA interrupted time-series). I believe that R's functions will meet nearly every program

Multilevel models with mixed effects in R?
Group, I am new to R. In my work as a program evaluator, I am regularly asked to estimate effect sizes of prevention/intervention and educational programs on various student outcomes (e.g. academic achievement). In many cases, I have access to data over three or more time periods (e.g. growth in proficiency test scores). I usually have multiple independent and dependent variables in each

Dissapearence of the program
Hi everybody, I 'll try to describe the problem I have as clear as I can, because it's quite complicated. I have a dictionary installed through wine in openSuse 11.1. When I open it nothing appears on my screen, although it runs as a process, i.e. it has a pid. In order to make it appear on my screen I do the following: 1. I maximize the dissappeared dictionary through right click on

Unable to Connect to OpenVMS Pathworks
This is my first time posting on this list, so please excuse me if this is the wrong list to post on (if it is please just let me know). I've recently upgraded my old Redhat 8.0 box to Redhat Fedora Core 8 which comes with Samba 3.x while my old Redhat 8.0 box had Samba 2.x. On my old box I had SMB map a drive from an older OpenVMS server using Pathworks. I performed this by simply doing:

file limits using SAMBA
Is there a limit to the number of files that can be seen through SAMBA Shares. We currently have approximately 120,000 files (and growing) under business related shares under our current Pathworks environment. With being in the process of transferring over to SAMBA we need to ensure that all the files are viewable. It may be advisable to split these shares across several disks on our UNIX

Rsync compression still broken
I've surfed through the archives and notice that no-one's "resolved" the compression issue, nor has anyone reported it for a while. I am sad to report that the issue still appears to exist in 3.0.4. Conditions seem similar to other instances reported where the file is >1GB. And, like those other reports, I have unfortunately overwritten the destination file when I turned

List of magic wins numbers
Hi, I am looking for a list of theses special magic numbers that a samba server (or a windows box) registers with at a wins server. I already know of <00> as a ordinary name, <1b> as a domain. But what's the rest? Is there a list anywhere? Perhaps somewhere in the docs? I have searched them but haven't found anything yet. Thanks, Christopher --

Slow Printer Connection (net use ... )
net use lpt1: \\node\prt On a slow VMS Box with pathworks this cmd runs in 1 sec. On a Dual 1G Linux Box with 2.2.7 samba it takes about 7-8 seconds on a 350 PC. I am using lprng and loading the printers from the printcap file. Does anyone have any idea's on how to speed this up? I tried it on several samba servers and it works the same on all of them. I'm not trynig anything fancy

3 OS/2 Server, 120 user, we waited to avoid W*-Server, is now the time? How?

Asking hard questions about the NUT architecture
I've spent the better part of two working days reading the NUT code and documentation and thinking about typical modern use cases for the software. I'm now questioning whether I want to get any further involved with this project, because it seems to me that the codebase is a huge and complicated pile of machinery mainly aimed at solving problems that no longer matter. I could be wrong

Linux printer shows in Net Neighborhood, but "No Access"
Hello all, Been using Samba for a looooonnnng time, and with great success I might add. This is the first time in EVER that I've needed to ask ANYTHING regarding it, so easy is it to config and admin. Kudos to the Aussie that wrote it. Even if he initially thought it was Pathworks... 8-) ANYWAY... I've never really been able to use Samba as a print server. For some reason, when

Network Computing Newsletter article...
Hey gang... An SMB server comparison article just showed up at Network Computing. http://www.networkcomputing.com/1104/1104f3.html They compare three SMB servers including Samba 2.0.6 and we took first place (barely). Zinged us on central administration. Compaq's SMB server has central configuration and administration of multiple servers, which they liked a lot, apparently. Mike --

How do I code this conditional statement in Ruby
Hi, I am a COBOL programmer and I am busy teaching myself Rails and Ruby. In COBOL I can code this conditional If x = 1 next sentence else .......................... The "next sentence" statement enables me to get out of the conditional. How would I code the same thing in Ruby? In C you could use break but I understand that Ruby has no break statement. 1.9.18p6 release.
Hi all, Over the weekend (isn't it always :-), someone on the BugTraq list posted an analysis (not exploit code) of a potential buffer overrun in Samba, that has been present in all versions (including 1.9.18p5). As Andrew Tridgell was working over the weekend he quickly produced a fix for this (it was a problem with code using sprintf) and released it as 1.9.18p6 on Sunday, May 11th.

Patches for OpenVMS && Samba4
Refer to this: https://legacyos.org/vsi-introduces-new-samba-release/ I noticed that VSI, the new owners of VMS, have created a package for Samba4 under OpenVMS. I also notice the samba-vms list appears to be abandoned (for years). So, I apologize for posting here on the general list, but it seemed fruitless trying the dedicated list. I am under the impression that the GPL v3 compels all
