Freebsd + NT/Nt-Client am Linux-Server
Pam_SMB allows Linux clients to validate
their passwords against an NT PDC, so the
only thing you have to do is set up the
accounts on the Linux side with an '*'
in the /etc/passwd entry. This can be
done using a list of users:
#!/bin/bash
for i in `cat myuserlist`; do
/usr/sbin/adduser -p '*' $i
with various other command line options,
such as "-s

"read error" when accessing a file on mounted samba share (Linux)
Hi all,
This is my first experience with network file sharing on Linux so I'm
looking for debugging advice. Server and client are both running FC5.
I've set up my home directory as a share on the server using
system-config-samba, everything seems fine. On the client side, as root:
# smbclient -L server.domain
Password:
Domain=[DOMAIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1]

winbind problem in ADS Domain
Hi all,
I just installed a Suse Linux 9.2 with Samba 3.0.0923
I would like to make this new server a member server of my active directory
domain
I think I configured almost anything correctly: I succesfully joined the
domain via LDAP with net ads join,
I can browse user and groups via wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g
I can browse user and groups via getent passwd and getent group
I can also give file

You never said that you had uidNumber in LDAP!, in fact you seemed to
mention every winbind backend except the one that

IDMAP_NSS on member server
I think IDMAP_RID would not be the appropriate solution for me. Not
only do I want consistent IDMapping across all servers - which this
could do - but I want them to match the the existing unix uidNumber in
LDAP.
Thanks for your help.

Samba browsing and NAT
BACKGROUND
---------------------
I have a system running Red Hat 7.1 (2.4 kernel) that I've set up on a
local subnet to server as a router to the outside world, including the
Internet. IP forwarding and NAT work just fine on the TCP/IP level.

Why I can not login my shared folder under samba + CentOS 7
I found that if I create a folder under / as my shared folder(for example: /data), the samba work. If the shared folder is /home/myname/data, it doesn't work.

IDMAP_NSS on member server
I have two Samba 3.6.24 domain controllers (Solaris 10.) On all
machines unix accounts and groups are in the LDAP as well as idmap
entries for trusted domains. Samba accounts on domain controllers are
in LDAP so there is problem with consistency unix/windows id and group
mapping on the domain controllers. The domain controllers are the
main file servers as well.
I am configuring a

I don't have an AD backend for this domain. The DC's are "classic"
domain controllers, Samba 3.6 , with LDAP backend for all accounts.
Would this still be an option?
I tried adding
idmap config MYDOMAIN:schema_mode = rfc2307
idmap config MYDOMAIN:backend = ad
idmap config MYDOMAIN:range = 100-300
Didn't seem to work.
Thanks

Problems running apps from Samba 2.0.0 share on NT 4.0
Ever since I upgraded from Samba 1.9.18 to 2.0.0, I've been
having problems with applications started from a Samba share dying
silently, or with an Illegal Instruction message, on NT 4.0
Workstation. Since the only configuration change has been the Samba
upgrade, that would seem to be the orgin of the problem. Below is my
smb.conf file, in case I have something configured (or not configured)

Can you access from windows?
I also notice that samba 4.2.10 is no longer a supported version.

Problems setting up Samba (nmbd) as multi-subnet router
Hi,
i have a network with one machine acting as master router with
2x4-Port-Ethernet-Cards in it - running nmbd!
There are two Windows-Workgroups, WRK1 and WRK2 in each there are
Windows-Exchange-Servers EX1, EX2. In WRK2 the PDC is on EX2, in WRK1 there
is a standalone PDC, PDC1.
Every network is a full 255 IP-Network.

rh7.3/samba as PDC
I have been working with samba trying to get PDC functionality out of it. I
tried first - version 3 from samba.org then I tried the samba that comes
with
rh7.3 and the last version I have been trying to get to work is the latest
samba-tng.
It has been straight forward getting file sharing to work, but the PDC part
just won't work. I can manaully create a machine account on the linux box

popups, queue & agents
Hi everyone -
I have a nicely working system to which I'd like to add popups for
incoming calls. Calls go into a queue, then all extensions ring.
I'd like the agent that answers to call to get the popup on screen.
I'm currently using Flash Operator Panel to get a popup (other
suggestions welcome). Currently, all users get a popup when the call
first goes into the queue

Can connect directly, but not browse samba server from Windows Workgroup network
Dear Samba gurus,
I have a Fedora 8 linux server, running samba 3.0.28a-0.fc8. I am
doing the simplest thing of all - exposing a public read-only share
within MS Workgroup environment. My server has a fixed local IP
address (192.168.1.200) and it's on the same subnet as the rest of the
machines. The server and machines are connected to a 24 port CISCO
switch.
My problem is that I can

Assigning cases to groupings based on the values of several variables
Dear R-ers,
my task is to simple: to assign cases to desired groupings based on the
combined values on 2 variables. I can think of 3 methods of doing it.
Method 1 seems to me pretty r-like, but it requires a lot of lines of code
- onerous.
Method 2 is a loop, so not very good - as it loops through all rows of
mydata.
Method 3 is a loop but loops through fewer lines, so it seems to me more
