smbpasswd and password on command line
Hello - I see from the 3.0.8 release notes: * Remove support for passing the new password to smbpasswd on the command line without using the -s option. I used to use the option: smbpasswd -a $user $pass to quickly add a new user to the smbpasswd database. This no longer works in 3.0.8. I have tried every combination I can think of adding the -s and -L options to the command

Can someone explain how samba handles permissions?
Can someone explain the following behavior. I don't understand windows permissions very well, so I'm not sure if the following is a problem or considered normal. I have a directory called sigmaproj on my samba server; ls -la gives the following information: 14 drwxrwxrwx 31 bkelly users 6656 Sep 17 16:12 sigmaproj in this directory is a file: 2 -rw-r--r-- 1 dvorak users

OHLC Plot with EMA in it
Hi there I have some timeseries data which I plot in a OHLC Plot. In the same plot I'd like to have the EMA of this timeseries. I tried to add the EMA point to OHLC with lines(), but this doesn't work. Has anyone an idea how to handle it? Regards, Michael Zak

Automating object creation
I am new to R. I would like to automate the creation of a number of vectors but can't seem to get the string formatting to work. Here's what I would like to be able to do: Suppose we have a vector: x <- c(2,4,5) I would like to be able to create a set of vectors whose names are associated with the values in x - e.g. x2 <- 0 x4 <- 0 x5 <- 0 I have tried with a for loop and

Printer Pool
Is there a way in samba to create a printer pool like you can do with NT? I have two HP Network Printers (4000N) which I can setup and print to from Win95, no problem. But I want to make the most "efficient" use of the printers, as they are in a lab, sitting right next to each other... Thanks... === Tim --------------------------------------------------------------------- | Tim

kernel panic PCI-DMA: Random memory would be DMAed
I am attempting to run Xen 3.1.1 on a HP DL385 G2 box (opteron based system), using Gentoo. The machine will boot, and I can login and edit files etc, but as soon as I do anything more intensive such as copying files off a cdrom (making me think it is a cciss driver problem) or running make, I get the following : kernel panic not syncing: PCI-DMA: Random memory would be DMAed Searching on

ActiveRecord: Oracle metadata loading slow on large database
All, While attempting to use ActiveRecord against a large database, approx. 1700 tables and 4 million rows, I discovered an inefficiency in oci_adapter.rb. The problem seems to be the SQL being generated to lazy-load the columns metadata. "def columns(table_name, name = nil)" method generates the following SQL: select column_name, data_type, data_default, nullable,

MS Flight Simulator?
Anybody had any luck getting MS flight simulator running? I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 on Intel and got to missing the Winders flight simulators after someone just gave me FS-X. It starts to install fine until it asks for the second DVD, which it never sees. When I click the Retry button, it keeps coming back with "Insert Disk #2." Any ideas? Thanks, Gerry -------------- next part
