MS Word 97 and Samba 1.9.18p10
Hello all,
We're having some odd issues with samba and MS Word (And presumable the
rest of the office suite, but I haven't checked) running on NT 4.0 sp3.
MS Word doesn't seem to obey the umask settings:
create mask = 0775
directory mask = 0775
When a new word document is created, it is given -rwxrw-r-instead of the
-rwxrwxr-x I'm expecting. I'm not sure whats happening

Problems with NT data stamps
Hello all,
I poked around the archives on this with out much success. Here's the
issue:
A user is in "explorer" on an NT 4.0 sp3 machine. The User right clicks on
a file and says "copy". Then in the same explorer window ( I don't think it
matters, but that's how we're doing it in the example) they select the samba
share, find the correct directory and

Problem with visual C++ and samba
We are having a problem with Microsoft visual C++ compiling source
code maintained on a samba server. Occasionaly the compiler reports
that it cant open the file vc50.pch. The samba server is running on a
freebsd box. Taking a look at the log files it looks like when the
operation fails the server is processing the command
open (vc50.pch for exclusive use
write
setattrE

Help! problems with Arcserve. Can someone decrypt the logs ?
Hi everyone,
We use samba 2.0.4 and are very glad of it. However, recently I had to add a
backup facility on our network, so we plan to purchase Arcserve IT for NT,
in order to backup our servers. We are using mainly 3 Linux servers and 1 NT
server, which runs the backup service.
However, as Itried to add a simple share on the file server to enable
backup, later I encounter problems with

Directories show empty after some time ...
Sorry that I will ask a kind of a vague question, but I don't really know
how to proceed at the moment:
Some of our Samba (1.9.18p10) users experience the following problem: they
map a drive to a Samba share (pointing into AFS, if that matters) and see
all files/dirs correctly after the password dialog. 'Some time' later (for
one user usually about one hour) they try to use the drive

HPUX 9.05 & Samba 2.0.0 & problems !
Hi there !
I just upgraded (last friday night) our main Samba host to Samba 2.0.0 from
version 1.9.18p10. This host provides access to our own file based database
system. The number of Samba clients is around 60 (nearly all NT4.0's and
few NT3.51's). The Samba 2.0.0 host runs
'uname -a':
HP-UX vertex A.09.05 A 9000/720 65914162 two-user license
After the upgrade change I've

Samba 3.5 to 3.6
Reading :
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_3.6_Features_added/changed
it seems there are options not to check having consistant SIDs.
Otherwise, I used the solution with :
net setlocalsid
and it worked for me.

Share violation on file error
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi!
I see some strange errors on a samba-3.0.2a PDC and fileserver
running under Linux.
Every now and then users are not able to access some random file.
Windows tells the user that the "file is already opened"
or some similar error message (it's an error message in german)
The files are varying, I see all kinds of filenames where

Share modes problems
Hi all,
I'm having a problem with share modes (at least I think it's share
modes) on my samba server. The problems only seem to have
manifested themselves since I updated to samba 2.0.0. This has
coincided with an upgrade to our system, so it is conceivable that
the problem may be with that, but I think it more likely that it is to
do with samba (since errors are reported in the log

After almost every reboot, Samba printing is DOA under Solaris 2.6...
I just thought that I would put this out there and see if anyone else
sees this problem with Samba 1.9.18p4 (under Solaris 2.6).
It appears that after some reboots of Solaris, Samba printing is partly
dead. What I see in the logs are below, and what happens is that the
file to be printed is spooled to /var/spool/samba, like always, but
when the lpr command is issued it croaks. I've been

readbraw vs. readX
Using Samba 1.9.18p10 I have found a difference between Win95 and WinNT:
opening 'Lotus Freelance' files from Win95 is really slow (about 17 kB/s
only) vs fast (~hundreds of kB/s) from WinNT.
Looking into the log (with debug level=4) I see using Win95:

oplcok_break more information (PR#12734)
Hi! After more work on the oplock_break problem, I've found the following
in my tcpdump-smb logging. It seems that when ost5 (pid=26339 in the logs
that follow) requests access to the oplocked file comm.inf from ost6
(pid=5872) the oplock_break failes (this is NOT isolated to any one or two
systems on our network, just using these two as an example, and the server
reports no dropped packets

Weird "Share violation"
Hi all!
I've got an OS X Server (10.3.7) running the built-in version of Samba
(3 something).
I've got one sharepoint set up ("Apps") with 2 DOS applications in it.
One is an old DOS version of Q&A (4, if it really matters). The other
is a custom application that is text based. (.bat files, for the most
part. A couple of complied pieces done in Turbo Basic.) All

FileMaker lock problem
We have a customer system running Slackware Linux (kernel 2.4.25) and
Samba. The customer was running Samba 2.2.8 but we recently upgraded them
to
Samba 3.0.13.
The customer has a FileMaker database on a public share. Before the
upgrade, the customer was able to have multiple concurrent access to the
database. After the upgrade, only the first user to access the database
was successful.

Samba problem - write fails
Ok, I think I'm making progress. It turns out that the share is working
fine for two win95 machines, but not the one win98 machine in the office.
The win98 machine can edit/save an existing file, but not save as a new
name, or copy files to the server. When this fails, there is a delay, then
they get a message saying the resource is no longer available. I feel like
this might be a

strange share violation
hello there !
I have one problem. We have a catalogue on a CD which is being used
frequently so it's copied on a Novell network. But now we have to move
it on a Samba box. But when two (or more) users try to run it, the
second user (and all the rest) gets a message that the program
couldn't access one file. The first user runs it perfectly.
Here is a snippet from a log file:
