seeing/setting file or directory owners from win9x just like from nt/w2k
Hi All, Is there a way (speak command/wsh script) that allows a win9x workstation that is logged into a samba domain server (running onlinux for example) to see from the workstation what owner a certain file or directory has? Under win2k the "dir /q" command does this adequately. And if this is possible, is it then possible for someone to change the ownership of a file to another

NTLM HTTP Authentication - distinguishing between win9x and NT and 2000
Hello, I am trying to get the mod_ntlm Apache module running. I have been playing with the code and find that I cannot distinguish between a IE browser running on win98 and one running on Windows 2000. My Apache server is running on red hat 7.1 x86. The code does the following to distinguish: if ((strcmp(ntlmssp->host,"")==0) &&

NT Wkst auto printer driver installation
Hello all, Please forgive me if this is a FAQ, but I haven't seen it explicitly in any of the docs (although I find the Samba documentation EXTREMELY confusing and complex, so I may have missed it). Essentially, I have been able to follow the instructions in 'PRINTER_DRIVER.txt', and Win9x clients can install printer drivers for Samba shared printers instantly and easily. However

samba and nt server logon scripts for win9x - running a program
Howdy folks, been playing with win9x domain logon scripts to ease my admin tasks with a few clients and having trouble with one item. Basically what I want to have happen is each monday at first logon, the script would run the latest antivirus definition updater, the user would click yes to run it once the dialogue popped up and be done in 15-30secs or so. Here is the problem, if I first map

9x/NT/2000 clients with security=server
Hi, I have a problem authenticating users using samba-2.0.6/Solaris 7 (sparc ultra-1), using the security=server option. We want to have a single print-server for both the UNIX and Windows clients on our network. The windows machines authenticate user using an NT4-domain. I've setup samba so that it always runs as user 'lprsmb' used to print to the UNIX-printserver with a wrapper

Possible Bug?? (was: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok)
Please lend me some expertise... Ok, I know suggesting a bug is a bit impolite, but I cannot find a solution for this and none of the helpful people who have responded have been able to help either... If I come off sounding a bit short it's just because I've tried many things to get these older clients printing. :-) Don't mean to annoy anyone. Appreciate any help! Have several

querying an NT domain for a list of logged-in users
Hello all, I'm investigating the possibility of creating a Linux-based firewall solution which can allow or reject connections based on the identity of the user currently logged into a machine, similar to what's possible with MS Proxy Server. I know that nmblookup can be used to query the logged-in user on a Win9x machine; is there a similar ready-made mechanism that can be used in an NT

domain logins for NT Workstation in 2.0.7?
Was having problems getting NT Workstation to see the samba server as the PDC and do domain logins (Win9x does just fine). Then found this comment in Sam's Teach Yourself Samba in 24 hours with regard to configuring a samba PDC: "You need to configure the server to be in user-level security and you must enable password encryption. There is no way around either of these settings."

'max_four_gig' parameter to normalize to 4GB
Hi, at first sorry for my bad english... I'm working on a little samba package for a routing projekt: www.fli4l.de This is a router, which runs from a single floppy. For easier use of printing functions for Win-Clients and for simple shares my package comes with Samba, with an very old version (1.9.18p10). I need this old version because she is very small and fits on the floppy. New

Samba 2.0.3 and NT/9x
Dear all, I recently upgraded to Samba 2.0.3 and read the doc files about NT machines because I cannot connect to the Samba server. In the WinNT.txt file there is the following proposal: [ --- Start of pasted text --- ] The following registry entry change will re-enable clear text password handling: Run regedt32.exe and locate the hive key entry:

User nobody logging in to shares instead of domain us er
I am assuming that you have guest ok = yes, and that guest is the nobody account. It sounds like your name lookups are not searching winbind, do you have winbind in your nsswitch.conf file for password and group? Have you restarted your nameservice lookups (automatic on solaris, nsadmin restart on Irix, don't know about other platforms but a reboot should certainly take care of it if you

Join Domain OK, but domain name not found after reboot :-(
Hi, all: The Situation ============= I have a WinXP box (yup, sign-or-seal registry patch applied), and I can initially join it to my domain. It then prompts me to reboot, for the changes to take effect. So I do. After the reboot, I cannot log onto the domain (using users which are held in LDAP, and who can do console- and ssh-logins fine). The error-message says something to the effect

NT & Samba "The network name cannot eb found"
Hey all- I've had no problems configuring my linux box to server SMB shares to win9X boxes. everytime I try to have a samba server speak to an NT box, the NT box can see the samba server in the network neighborhood, view the share names, if I try to open a share, it says \\Suse\Homes is not accessible The network name cannot be found. Why is this? The networks I've always tried this

Fw: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Hi Peter, i had a long, frunstrating web surfing yesterday night, searching for something that could apply to your case. I didn't find much at all, sorry. The only thing perhaps interesting to you could be this: http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/printer_driver2.html This doc contains a section about migrating from 2.0.x to 2.2.x I think the problem lyes in the new way samba

Here's the log files on the file server: [2002/02/12 11:12:51, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_socket_data(542) write_socket_data: write failure. Error = Broken pipe [2002/02/12 11:12:51, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_socket(566)
