Win2K and Samba
Has anyone tried using Windows 2000 Professional with Samba? I'm checking it out now, and when I try to connect to a share, I get an error message similiar to the one you get with Win98 and NT4 with SP3+ with encrypted passwords. Does anyone know the equivelant registry path to set plain text passwords? The NT4 path doesn't seem to exist:

PANIC and delayed drive mapping?
Hiya! Samba 2.0.7 on HP-UX 11.0. When a user tries to map a drive, the smb.log shows the following: NOTE: the stanza ending in PANIC repeats 3 times, snipped here for brevity ===================================== [2002/02/28 11:12:43, 1] smbd/server.c:(641) smbd version 2.0.7 started. PATCH: Samba/Win2K renaming bug
Hi there. I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.1 + kernel 2.4.17. My girlfriend's laptop is running Windows 2000 + service pack 2. She has about a thousand MP3s stored on a Samba share on my RedHat machine. We were finding that she couldn't rename any MP3s on the Samba share: she would always get a sharing violation. After a day of reading Samba logs at debug 10 (_such_ fun [ ;)

Saving files with MS Word to samba3 server is very slow!
Hi! I'm currently hunting a strange problem and looking for help! I have a samba3 fileserver (currently samba-3.0.20b, but problem can be reproduced with samba-3.0.7, but _not_ with samba2 like 2.2.8a), and I see performance problems when writing files with MS word 2002 SP3 from a NT4.0 (SP6a) workstation. Saving even the smallest file takes more than 10 seconds! Copying files with Windows

Help! Problem with Samba 2.0.5a + WinNT4.0 SP5 (process 7281 no longer exists)
Hi All! Help! can anyone tell me what this message means? I'm running samba-2.0.5a. It sort of works, I can mount a samba drive from WinNT and run programs stored on the samba drive, but when I try and open an oracle form file on the samba drive, form reports an error opening the file. get_share_modes problem
I have samba 2.0.5a running on Openserver 5.0.5 with the latest patches installed. I got this specific version from Skunkware (SCO's distribution of Open Source binary packages). AFAIK, they make no changes to the actual source. I have no problems with using samba for name service and printing, however with file sharing I am having some strange problems. I sporadically get problems like

Swen virus and spam appears to be coming from Samba list
Shortly after I subscribed to this Samba list I started receiving numerous emails infected with the Swen/Gibe worm. Many of these emails contained the email addresses of Samba list members. I believe a subscriber of the Samba list has the Swen virus. Has anyone else on this list been getting emails infected with the Swen/Gibe worm? Please update your virus definitions and do a virus scan just to

Just a thought, all this "swen" stuff, this list
It seems anyone posting to this list gets a deluge (and I mean a deluge) of virus infected windows garbage. It's basically enough to ruin any email address you sign up to the list with; it doesn't matter if you have a virus scanner integrated with your MTA, I really don't want to see 200 virus notifications a day because i posted to this list. I have been getting about 20MB of swen a

Explorer & MS Office hang
I'm running samba 2.0.7 on Solaris 2.6. We've have terrific success for well over a year with samba until about a week ago I started receiving reports that users could not open MS Office docs saved on a samba share. The samba logs are full of information about oplocks like this: [2001/03/07 10:14:04, 0] smbd/oplock.c:request_oplock_break(1204) request_oplock_break: no response

"session was cancelled" on large file xfers
I've seen a couple mentions of trouble w/ large files in the list archives, but nothing that seems to resolve this problem... When trying to move or copy largish files (~ >1MB) with WinN using Samba 1.9.18p10 on a Sparc Solaris 2.5 system, things hang for a while and then a dialog box pops up saying "Cannot copy {filename}: The session was cancelled. Oplock break request failures
I hope someone can enlighten me on this. Situation: NT network, Samba PDC, about 20 NT 4.0 workstations. log(s).smbd are created per machine for easier analysis (as log.smbd.<NetBios Name>). Not often, but often enough to be of concern, are errors in request_oplock_break that seem to indicate that another smbd process that should be listening for break requests on a UDP socket

Setting scales for ggplot2 with facets
Faceting in ggplot2 seems to permit different scales for different facets, but I fail to see how one could control ylim and xlim ranges for each facet separately. For instance, I would like to set the ylim = c(0,10) for facet "A" and ylim = c(42,102) for facet "B". Since the data is out of these ranges, setting facet_grid(factor ~ ., scales = "free_y") does not

Help! Mysterious samba problem...
For some strange reason, a samba setup which was previously working has suddenly stopped working, and I can't figure out why. The symptoms is that attempts to write some files onto a samba filesystem take a long time, and then error out with the error message (in Windows dialog box): "Cannot create or replace <filename>: The specified network resource or device is no longer
