I have a Question about files and smb.conf option browsable. I have setup one public share(witch is diving me some trouble). This is what this trouble is: On that share all users save public files from win95 or win98. On login script is executed witch using net use map this share to drive P: When someone delete files, or save new files on P: disk, some of users(after refresh or logout/login) do

Problem with domain controller & win98
Hi there, I set up my samba that it acts as a domain controller, when i start network neigborhood and click on the linux system and select netlogon ([NETLOGON] entry in smb.conf) i first had the problem with windows 98 that my password always was wrong. i fixed this with a registry setting (something with plaintext), now this part works. Now i configured my windows 98 for using a domain-server,

CDROM on SAMBA/Linux
A related question: I would like to build a CD-Rom server based on Samba where it is possible to swap CDs without mounting them by hand. The volume label should appear automatically in Windows. Is this possible ? -Erwin [John D. Hays - Writes] Erwin, I do this on my system. I have two each 7-disk changers on my Linux box (attached using SCSI) with the appropriate driver configuration. All

Problems with smbmount
I have a problem. When I mount my CD (witch is on WIN97 machine) using smbmount I do not see all files in all dirs. If dir have more then, let say, 100 files (it is not the same every time), I do not see all files. This is a problem because on my Linux box I do not have CD-ROM, so if I have to install some packages I first have to copy rpm files on disk, and then install them witch is annoying.

Problems with MS Word 97 and Samba 1.9.18p10
Hello all, I'm still having some odd problems with my samba setup. An NT 4.0 SP3 workstation running MS Word 97 SR-1, and a Solaris 2.6 machine running Samba 1.9.18p10 yields this problem: Any user creates a new document. They save and close that document, everything works fine. They re-open the document, and make some changes. They then click the close "X" on the title

Problems with NT data stamps
Hello all, I poked around the archives on this with out much success. Here's the issue: A user is in "explorer" on an NT 4.0 sp3 machine. The User right clicks on a file and says "copy". Then in the same explorer window ( I don't think it matters, but that's how we're doing it in the example) they select the samba share, find the correct directory and

MS Word 97 and Samba 1.9.18p10
Hello all, We're having some odd issues with samba and MS Word (And presumable the rest of the office suite, but I haven't checked) running on NT 4.0 sp3. MS Word doesn't seem to obey the umask settings: create mask = 0775 directory mask = 0775 When a new word document is created, it is given -rwxrw-r-instead of the -rwxrwxr-x I'm expecting. I'm not sure whats happening

Question about islower() in ctype.h (ANSI compat headers test)
Hi, So far with the latest changes the projects I am trying to port works fine, except for a mismatch on what is considered the ansi behaviour of islower() in ctype.h: ----- i = 220 islower (i) = 0, ISLOWER (i) = 0 toupper (i) = 220, TOUPPER (i) = 220 i = 221 islower (i) = 0, ISLOWER (i) = 0 toupper (i) = 221, TOUPPER (i) = 221 i = 222 islower (i) = 0, ISLOWER (i) = 0 toupper (i) = 222, TOUPPER

Detecting KLIBC from userspace
Hi Currently I am trying to get device-mapper and dmraid ported to compile against klibc. So far there was no real issues, as the only thing they used was fscanf and feof not available presently in klibc (but easy to work around). Other than that there are really no way to easily check for installed klibc's other than trying to mangle the output of klcc (from adjusted configure.in): -----

SAMBA 1.9.18p10 problem
I have been using Samba 1.9.18p8 in a Solaris 2.6 machine for months but suddenly this week there is a problem. Nothing's changed. I have some persistent connection of my NTSP3 client to the samba share. When I login as usual, it fails to mount the drive. It either prompt for password but whatever password the samba rejects, or give a "Access is Denied" when you try to access the

WINS problem ? Samba server not found by all workstations
Hi all, I have a small problem here with Samba (version 1.9.18p7, although I upgraded this morning to p8). The server is a Sun Solaris 2.6. The clients are all Windows NT (server & workstations). All the workstations are on a subnet, and the server on another subnet (so broadcast packets are not able to move from a station to the server), so I configured Samba as a WINS server, and all

Why only one WINS server?
Hello, Documentation states that one should set up only one Samba server as WINS server. While NT's TCP/IP setup has two entrys, one for a primary and one for a secondary WINS server I wonder why there should be only one Samba WINS server. Has anyone tried this with two Samba WINS servers? Did you suffer from any interferences. I did and the machines are running perfectly smooth. Did I
