Win NT Authorization problems...
After a nights rest (and a successful solution to my NT
authorization problems) and short apology is in order to the list.
My attitude in the last message was less than helpful and I apologize.
On a helpful note here is what I learned:
Regardless of the interpretation of any of the samba documentation
Samba-1.9.18 and later versions fully support DES encryption for
WindowsNT without *ANY*

Printing Problems w/Samba on AIX (2nd Try)
Hello all,
I have been running Samba on various versions of UNIX for quite a
while now without ever encountering any major problems. However, I have
now run into a problem that has me stumped.
I am running Samba 2.0.5a on an RS/6000 running AIX. Up until a
month or so ago we were running on AIX version 4.2.1. At that time we
upgraded to 4.3.2 and Samba continued to function properly.

Compile problems in Slackware
Hi there.
Has anyone experienced problems when compiling Samba? I always get stuck
with an "internal compiler error" at the file smbpass.o.
The system is Slackware 3.4.0 (still the current release), with
kernel 2.0.33 and GCC 2.7.2.3, I checked it with Samba 1.9.18p8 and 1.9.18p7.
How to get the error:
Install Slackware 3.4.0
Extract samba-1.9.18p8.tar.gz

Desperatly seeking Parallel R simulation with Windows XP
Hello R experts,
I've been searching for weeks a way to use my quad core xeon to increase
speed of a very-very computer-intensive simulation I must do for my works.
It seems that most purpose-made packages for R : Snow, Rmpi, snowfall,...
are designed for Linux based OS. I do not have access to Linux due to
professionnal reasons ... so I must work with windows XP.
Do somebody know a way to

Win2k clients problem after updating system
Hello all samba users and programmers,
Since I changed my system and reinstalled samba funny things happen in my net. I used to work with a Gentoo system and now I've got installed a Knoppix 3.2 Debian, but by now I don't think it's interesting for the problem I've got.
What I did was:
- install samba 3.0.0-final
- copy the old smb.conf file to the path in the new system

Benefit to changing "interface" param?
Given that I only have 10 client machines which could access Samba
(v1.9.18p3), does it make any sense increase the "interface" mask to reduce
the number of addresses broadcasted to?
That is, would a parameter of
interface = 192.168.0.1/28
be less of a burden on Samba that the standard 8-bit
interface = 192.168.0.1/24
range of broadcast addresses?
Thank you.

DOS style 8.3 filename mangling issues??!
Okay, I've run through all of the tests in the DIAGNOSE, which my 1.9.18p1 SAMBA
server (and NT4SP3/W95 clients) pass with flying colours.
server box: Linux 2.0.33, gcc 2.7.2.2, libc 5.4.33, shadow, quota on (usr+grp),
and my smb.conf is summarised (by testparm output) below:
Problem is this: with respect to programs not long filename-aware/compliant,
users cannot "double-click" on

Remove non-numerical columns from data frame
Hello,
My question sounds simple, but as I am desperatly searchin for a solution I am
asking you all. :)
I try to filter out all non-numeric columns of a data frame using a for loop
to go through all columns. My if clause looks like this:
for(j in 1:length(data)) {
...
if(!is.numeric(data[j])) skip <- "not numeric")

Urgent Help pls - NT4.0 Term Server and SAMBA - RDR timeouts
Hello,
I'm new to this list.
The NT folk here, are concerned about some timeout errors and stuff that appear
in their event viewer. They are building a case to convince management that
unless these "samba" errors are fixed, we should move to NT file shares. I think
this is a bad idea. Can anyone help me out here.
We are running samba 2.0.6 (1st msg) and 2.0.5a (2nd err msg)

Possible problem with SAMBA 2.0.6 distribution for HP?
Hello,
I downloaded 2.0.6 and compiled under HP-UX 10.20, gcc 2.8.3 and
everything funtioned properly, except for smbrun, which didn't link.
I started looking around for it in the binary distributions available
(2.0.3 and 2.0.4a) and found it was also missing here. Lastly, I
sarted asking other hp sysadmins if they could send me theirs, turns
out NOBODY has it, even after compiling with

Q: rsync, Windows, --backup-dir, parameters
Hi,
I've seen a page on the internet :
http://optics.ph.unimelb.edu.au/help/rsync/rsync_pc1.html
Seems to me that I have some problems running the rsync binary
with "--backup-dir=PATH" options.
The command below runs just fine except for the option
above.
C:\rsync>rsync --delete -b --backup
--backup-dir=/cygdrive/c/Doc/backup/Fri -ave ssh /cygd
rive/c/Doc/backup/desktop/

printing LARGE files
hello,
I am wondering how to print LARGE files..
samba seems to trunkate large files..
I changed my printer command = lp -d%p %s
to no avail.
If I print the file to the disk on the server I can then issue
an lp -dhp5si LARGEFILE and it prints fine.
any suggestions??
thanks in advance.
